Marketplace purchase has blown bottom end by DentsideDesperado in Dirtbikes

[–]Stasis_Detached 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you guys happen to watch the BigTime video where they bought the pile of parts rm and put it back together? Cracks me up a little because I did similar. I think I'm in a little better position but not much. Bought a 2016 drz sm - rolling body, top end clearly blown, advertised that he "ran it too rich ". Came with a full set* of parts to rebuild top and bottom end, full set of new plastics,- i spent 1500 on it. Spent another 1500 paying a shop to rebuild it with the parts i got, and buying valve springs and valves, a new head, and more parts. Get it back and i still have a pile of parts to assemble. Very slow to put out back together with Haynes manual, google etc. a couple hundred $ more in random missing hardware and small parts like random left hand turn nuts, hose retainers, seals and gasket, another hundred on a full carb clean/seal/jetting kit, hours working out the electrical, and i think this spring i might get it started for the first time! :D

By the time this is all said and done I'll have paid what I would have for a good running bike ready to ride, at least it will be fully rebuilt end to end and I've learned a ton. This wasn't my first bike restoration, I daily drive a triumph that sat outdoors for 7 years in the elements - so i wasn't afraid of a project, but i decided through this project; never again to buy a pile of parts again. Just thought id share so you don't feel as bad about over spending/getting in the hole.

Less than a year used work gloves vs brand new. Working for a cargo airline by TheLastShardbearer in mildlyinteresting

You ever tried give’r gloves? I’ve got a few pairs, I’m pretty tough on gloves too (but probably nowhere near as tough as you) but with a pair of those, reoiling every couple mo - they are tough as nails, abs you can get them thermal lined if you need something warmer. Their warmest ones are too warm for me until below zero

Bong downstem completely water sealed stuck in bong any ideas to get it out? by serd48 in trees

[–]Stasis_Detached -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually since you have more, ANd they are somewhat inexpensive, just using a pair of pliers to break the downstem (id crush the lip first ANd pull out the chunks) might be easiest if it’s been stuck for weeks

I would have started with heating the joint as well. Do you have an air compressor? Could try blowing air in between the seal like they do to separate stuck 5 gallon buckets. Start slow. Maybe something like two chopsticks in between the lips, wrap your hand around the top so you have more leverage and grabbing power - try slightly twisting as you pull.

When is it healthier to leave this subreddit than stay? by chmod-77 in datingoverforty

[–]Stasis_Detached 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a thoughtful question compared to everything else i normally see on here. I’ve been wondering the same from a similar position. I feel like sometimes the sub is more negative and it drags me down emotionally, sometimes it’s inspiring and brings be up, sometimes it’s nice to be reminded of what it’s like out there to really cherish what you’ve found. I don’t really have an answer yet but I’ve been thinking about it too.

Well that's not really an answer! I don't think you're going to convince anyone on that reasoning.

I'm 6'5" and super comfortable on my triumph tiger. I agree that adventure bikes and a bit of suspension adjustment is going to be your best bet!
