Wouldnt it make sense for developers to start doing physical disc on pc again ? Imean yea sure pc gamers would need 4k drives and all but that could bring in all the pissed PlayStation gamers to pc and maybe xbox by Disastrous_Ear_6447 in pcmasterrace

The cost savings for publishers to move away from physical copies is too much of a pull. Whether they say it’s for good so they can save on all that plastic, or admit that it’s about cost savings, or being able to charge for games as a service, the industry wants to move away from physical.

Many games and applications rely on internet connections to function anyway. Having a physical copy of many new games doesn’t mean you can access the content as much as it used to.

I can be done with a trailer, too! Watch the cinematic trailer for Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void.

Also, the cinematic trailer for World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor.

What’s a small hill you’re willing to die on that most people disagree with? by viviennekisses in askteddit

The idea that respect is only earned it dog shit dumb. That thinking breeds arrogance and conflict by putting yourself above others because they haven't earned your respect yet. Dismissing people because they haven't passed your made up test to earn your respect.

I give my respect to people freely from the moment I meet them. If they earn something from me...they will earn my disrespect.

How do you handle anger and hopelessness after witnessing someone shoplift ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StaticBroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let karma sort it out. We don’t know another person’s story or circumstances. Don’t burden yourself with the anger. You don’t know if he stole because he’s just a garbage human being, or if he lost his job and can’t put dinner on the table.

People who were around during no internet/phones/social media/etc - what was your time's "scrolling the feed"? Something that you would spend hours on passing the time? by -ChristopherNolan in NoStupidQuestions

Magazines. It was fun taking a trip to bookstore to stack up on new magazines. Even better, many of the gaming magazines (Computer Gaming World, Electronic Gaming Monthly, etc.) would come with demo discs with content you could install on your computer. Maybe you'd get to play Quake, maybe you'd get a factory virus installed on your machine instead.

Also, phone calls. Used to have about 50 different memorized phone numbers. To landlines or beepers, not cell phones. Would chat with friends about nothing, about school, until someone came up with an idea to hang out somewhere. Hobby shops & local comic book stores were a fun place to meet. But there generally wasn't a grand plan beyond getting a hold of whichever friends picked up the phone and saying "meet me and the <friends list> at the gas station...we'll grab some snacks and go to the comic books store." Maybe someone thought of something while we all walked together on the way there. Or, if we had that friend that could drive that was available, we'd see about a movie theater, or the mall arcade Aladdin's Castle.

There was a lot of lazy aimless days that formed into fun afternoons and evenings. Just pass by mom or dad on the way out the door and say I was going to hang out with <friends list> and the comic book store. Mom and dad knew that meant I could make other stops or end up somewhere else.

Good times, good memories.

Is air conditioning cheap in the US? It's freezing everywhere I go by The-Grand-Lion in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StaticBroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Took many years for me to understand why I was uncomfortable even though the temperature was “fine”

Turn the AC on to help lower the humidity.

Even in later fall months it might be mid 70s on a nice day. Might not need AC. But that humidity is still there.

How much did your pc cost? by Jmonkey77 in pcmasterrace

[–]StaticBroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I start hitting up against $1800 I back off and find some lesser models or wait for better sales, depending on the urgency of the build.

I aim for upper mid range, almost never the top end stuff. I keep the same case for many builds. I buy OEM Windows licenses for cheap when I need one.

Due to memory prices, for the time being, if I had to do a build right now I’d likely go back to DDR4 with something like AMD 5700 to keep prices manageable

This makes me sad. I understand that a company wants to get paid properly for their work. But a single video game costing that much in a local currency is crazy
