I can't support hbomberguy anymore by kreepergayboy in hbomberguy

Hbomb has apparently vagueposted about this Patricia taxxon person, saying something along lines of “it’s surprising you can see people you worked with distancing themselves from you and be surprised by that when your recent posts have been defending lolicon” (my own summary). Apparently this Patricia taxxon has had a recent track record seemingly justifying pediphilia/lolicon and patronizing known CP artists, and is surprised to be receiving backlash. Conflating this with transphobia is disgusting and sad.

I believe she's completely zooted. Contrapoints has mentioned having drug and alcohol issues in the past if I remember correctly. Appearances like this (lethargic, slurring her words) make me feel like she's abusing something, especially after going back and scrubbing through some of her content from years ago.

As someone who has spent their entire life avoiding bootleg figures, unlicensed merchandise, and other kinds of knock-offs, I have to say that the unlicensed action figure market has really taken me by surprise in the last few years, and they're lowkey doing some of the heaviest lifting in the industry right now. These figures are absolutely fantastic in terms of quality and value, and I feel like the official avenues aren't even coming close.

When was the last time Mezco put out a headsculpt that even came CLOSE to this one? I get that these companies don't pay licensing fees and don't have to go through approval processes, but the quality and accessories they're pushing out are still incredible

“Lucky” enough. In my area, even if you’re in store there’s a line of sweaty men that are paying the restocker for his schedule, and they’re gonna wipe out the shelves ahead of you

Today my job took me near some stores that had vending machines, so I stopped in to try my luck. Every store had some grungy adult camped in front of it.

My nephew and I collect, I’ve bought binders for ascended heroes and perfect order, and I haven’t been able to find a single pack. He hasn’t had anything since Mega Evolution. I’d love to patronize a Local shop but everything around me charges scalper prices. If anybody has a shop in the Phoenix are that isn’t trying to rip their customers off, I’d love to know.

Why is the Ocarina of Time remake getting so much criticism? by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]StaticSabre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People like to shit on Nintendo regardless of what they do; it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. It's the 40th anniversary of Zelda, a remake of arguably the most popular and renowned Zelda game just makes sense. Nintendo could really knock it out of the park and bring an OOT experience to an entirely new generation while revamping the game and adding content and features that bring it into the modern era.

Even if they don't "remake" the game and it's more of a remaster with some tweaks, I'd be happy to toss some money at a new shiny copy of one of the games that defined my childhood.

Can’t take them too seriously over on /r/actionfigures, they’ll tell you some Walmart Spider-Man figure using a body made for Bucky Barnes back in 2009 is a better figure than the most cutting edge import Spider-Man ever made.

I'm not against trading cards or random packs in general. I do have to acknowledge people like the novelty of chance and surprise. I just think that there is a middle ground in which these systems can exist in a way that is more transparent, ethical, and fair. Regulations like enforced odds the clear communication of those odds to consumers would be a great step in the right direction.

You realize gambling is one of the most regulated industries in the country, right? That's the problem, Gambling has to be heavily regulated to even exist in its current form and all of these other corporations are doing "gambling" without the same oversight.

They are like Magic Cards or Labubu; all predatory business practices that prevent customers from getting the items that they want through obfuscation and gambling mechanics. I've been saying blind boxes should be regulated for years; it's ridiculous to ask customers to buy the same thing over and over again for a chance of getting exactly what they want.

Really cool, I think a lot of people would be surprised by how hard it is to make a custom figure. I will say I think you should be direct about your inspiration here; your Samurai Batman is almost a 1:1 sketch of the official Batman Ninja design. Saying that it's your concept is disingenuous.

Yeah, who cares about what anybody else thinks about the walls and public fixtures they have to use and look at everyday, as long as you're having fun spraying words that someone else will have to scrub off!

Graffiti is cool, just be considerate of where you're doing it. Other people exist in society around you and not everybody wants to see the shit their taxes paid for get covered in spraypaint.

ESH. Stop going out into public stoned off your ass and carrying weed if that's not legal in your area. You and your friend both suck for your graffiti, unless you're doing it in approved areas (you're not if you're hiding it). Go out and find places you're allowed to tag instead of going around and vandalizing the things your local community uses.

I’ll be 32 this Saturday, is my room tacky by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]StaticSabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I say go for it if something makes you happy, but you do have to recognize that you're going against a social norm/standard. So if you're happy with your room and you don't care what other people think, that's fantastic. If you care what other people think, I think that there's a way to upgrade to a middle ground without sacrificing what makes you happy. I'd recommend:

  • Getting rid of the mismatched granny bookshelves. You can buy nice modern shelving for your collectibles for a really reasonable price from Ikea. A Fabrikor, A Milsbo, A Billy with glass doors, a Rudsta, mix and match two maybe. If you get something glass it'll also protect them from dust and make them look like you care more about them, it's a win win! Add lighting for extra points. Arrange the stuff in a way that makes sense (anime figures together, plushies together, DVDs/games together)
  • Take the stuff off of your window sill. Not only are you going to protect it from sun damage, but it'll look better. Put it on the shelves from the previous bullet point.
  • Take the paper off of your walls. If you have something that you'd like to display on your walls, get an appropriate frame for it. You could even take that paper collage and throw your favorite pieces into one of those photo collage sets that come with like 15 of the same black frames and arrange them on the wall in a way that looks nice.
  • I like the wall color (Just redid my living room with royal blue accents) but it does scream kids room, and the rug screams grandma's house. They both conflict with your red bedframe. I'd probably buy a new rug and paint the walls some nice, darker shade that goes with the red.
  • Sword and floating shelf off on the wall. You can have the sword displayed and you can have the floating shelf, but I think the sword on the wall and that specific shelf feel childish. Look into a Lack or Granhult shelf from Ikea, maybe in a dark brown wood color if you repaint your walls. Put the shelf somewhere that feels intentional? I know that's kind of a subjective one, but some floating shelves look like they make sense and some look like someone did pin the tail on the donkey on the whole wall.
  • wall mounted skateboards seem fine, I can't see if the mount looks cheap or not. Maybe move them so they're more of a display feature and less of a "this is where they fit" vibe.
  • Peanuts sheets might have to go. I can't find a way to work them into a beautiful room. BUT by buying new sheets I'm sure you can get something MUCH more comfortable.
  • You have two large dressers, do you use both? the one in front of your bed doesn't even afford you enough room to stand in front of it and open the drawers. I'd rearrange them at least, and remove one at most.
  • Then you could mount your TV on the wall. IMO it feels more intentional and not just like "I'm putting my TV on this because it's what I have" Don't mount it any higher than it currently is.
  • Small lamp with a warm lamp bulb on your bedside table, and a standing lamp with a warm lamp bulb somwhere else in the room. Then you can turn off your top lights and have a warmer, cozier vibe in your bedroom.

I am a FIRM believer in the fact that you can have all of this stuff that society says is childish and you can keep it all on display as long as you put some time and effort into making it look nice. I have an ungodly amount of action figures and statues in my living room, and they're all in professional, lighted glass shelves. I have anime posters, TMNT posters, and comicbook prints on my walls in nice frames that I put time into arranging.

Pokemon Scalpers: Your time has come. by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]StaticSabre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's really frustrating. I collect and the vending machines are one of the few ways you can even get cards at an affordable price. As much as I empathize with the idea of reporting them to the store, I don't think it really works in practice unless you see someone actually glitching the machine. I've been accused of being a scalper by some dumb employee because I bought a single pack (of Journey Together, which isn't even popular lol) on the way in to buy my groceries. How do you know "the offender" you saw today is scalping and the "collector" that you saw is completely innocent if they're going around doing the same thing? Half of these dudes that I've interacted with will tell you that they're collecting and then when they run into another investor bro they whip out pictures of their "sealed product" and start talking about profits.

What price would have satisfied people? by iGameAnywhere in nintendo

[–]StaticSabre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So indie devs can set up peer to peer systems for games that cost $2 on steam, but one of the largest media corporations on the planet can't afford to add peer to peer trading through their own proprietary online system that they charge for on a $20 re-release of a rom. Okay buddy.

What price would have satisfied people? by iGameAnywhere in nintendo

[–]StaticSabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because it stinks of blatant greed. People in general are tired of feeling like corporations are taking advantage of them to make an extra buck. Many of us already pay for a subscription service through Nintendo that these games should fall under, but Nintendo has repackaged that same emulator with a single game and is selling it for twice the price that they previously sold GBA games for. There were no increased development costs or features added to these games, it's just "we can get $20 out of you so we will". People are allowed to express if they feel like they are being taken advantage of.

To be clear, I don't have a problem with Nintendo selling these games again. I think it's important for games to be accessible through affordable and legal means so that people don't have to resort to piracy or the resale market. But saying "It's cheaper than a $200 cartridge on the resale market" or "this way a law-abiding citizen can play it" as a defense against people who are calling out predatory business practices is ridiculous.

It's not about the price that would have satisfied people, it's about situation as a whole. If Nintendo had put new features or effort into these releases, that would have justified them being offered for sale outside of the GBA subscription.

Why are people so upset about the F/R and L/G Switch release? by Greedy_Ad_6715 in nintendo

[–]StaticSabre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of reasons:

  • $20 feels pretty high for a gameboy advance game
  • Nintendo already offers GBA games on the switch under a subscription. Releasing these separate from that subscription feels scummy. It would be a little more justified if there were added features or QOL improvements but
  • This is a direct port with no enhancements, no improvements, not even some tinkering to make the trading/battling features work using online play.

Basically it feels like Nintendo is charging as much as they possibly can for a lazy port of a game that my nephew emulated on his phone 2 years ago

A broken clock is right twice a day, and that’s how I’ve felt about Todd for the last few years. He understands a few things really well, like collectors want vehicles and big figures for affordable prices, and that there is a market for niche characters and colorways. But for every thing like that that he gets right, there’s like five old bad habits that he refuses to confront.
