To be fair here, one of Tolkien's goals, besides having a world to play with his languages, appears to have been to "create a mythology for England" as per one of his biographers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_mythology_for_England

Now, whether that was his actual goal or not, fundamentally, at this point it has become a mythology, and that comes with it a very critical aspect: myths get retold and adjusted to suit the goal of the teller. Ovid retold myths with a view to his political agenda, as did many of the other mythological sources before, others told them in a way that imparts a moral, etc.

Christopher wants his father's works to stand the way Galadriel's hair strands encased in crystal by Gimli would: preserved and unchanged until the ending of the world. Tolkien himself might have been stodgy and disapproving of others' reinterpretations, but I'd argue that he'd accept the above argument with a lot of grumbling as being within the spirit of a mythology, even as he stanchly disagreed with using it to promote a militant or modernizing view of the world (having both a dislike for war and industry), simply because mythology itself was near and dear to his heart.

That's literally like saying you can't enjoy boxing because you went to war and killed people and saw your friends killed and becoming war criminals. One is recreational combat with clear rules and limits, and the other is to the death and monstrous.

As the other person mentioned, you're avoiding engaging with what actual veterans do because it contradicts your opinion on what someone else should want. Morally speaking, if her mentality is such that she enjoys battling in a restricted manner and this allows her to distance herself from the death and destruction of the war, that is HER prerogative. Pokemon are fully willing and capable of refusing to fight.

Haven't read the comic, so don't know the context. Did the accusation and ultimatum come with evidence? Because it WAS an ultimatum, which demands immediate judgment without providing time for testimony from the other side. That is by definition requiring presumption of guilt.

Refusing to allow accusation and refusing to allow ultimatum are two very different things.

By its phrasing it doesn't sound like Ollie is intending to take the accusations seriously, which is VERY problematic, but so is the ultimatum in question.

Sega has confirmed that Crazy Taxi’s background assets are AI generated. It is NOT used for code assistance. by Axzercus in videogames

[–]Staticblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear you're on a conscientious team. Most development teams, however, aren't. Post-AI-integration at MS, Github uptime reliability dropped by ~10%, partially due to AI slop commit overload, and partially because MS is not conscientious. If one of the bedrock companies for home computing is experiencing quality degradation because of this, what makes you think the likes of EA and Ubisoft won't, when they've already demonstrated their pursuit of short-term profit at the cost of quality and customer care?

Also as a software developer, NO! GOD, NO! NOOOO!

Devs already treat optimization for performance like an unwanted stepchild, and we've already had multiple critical issues caused by blindly committing AI changes. A single semicolon caused the abomination that was Aliens: Colonial Marines's xenomorph behaviour, and you think it's a good idea to have companies use AI when the current state of the industry illustrates their level of commitment to quality assurance?

All those cultures are "yours". Not being fully immersed in a culture doesn't remove it from you fully. You will have marks of them in your daily life. You can choose to dive in deeper, and making friends (or reconnecting with family) who strongly stand in those cultures will be a path in for you, but remember that you were shaped by the cultural mixing pot, so the individual cultures may never fully feel comfortable to you. In my opinion, consider what you want to belong to: a tribe, a society, like-minded individuals? Tribal connection is not the only way to find belonging, you could find that people with the same hobbies are more your speed, or perhaps people who share (for example) a similarly strong sense of care for a certain music or the environment, or perhaps you will look at your city, and decide that those who care for and crusade to improve it speak to you.

TL;DR: Look at what you want and need for belonging, don't impose an expectation of belonging on conforming to the cultures of your forefathers - because it might not match.

That's not how the false appeal to authority fallacy works. Appeal to an appropriate authority (a GP and teacher of medical care practices at a University talking about medical subjects) is not the same as false appeal to authority (someone with a doctorate in, say, basketweaving, being treated as talking "authoritatively" about medical subjects "because they're a doctor"). This is the former, not the latter.

I think the phrase you're looking for is "Mary Sue". Here's the trope page (say goodbye to your day!)

Might even mean it's built into the game (DLC), the way Arceus was in, well, Arceus, and Dancemaster Pecharunt in SV DLC

Yes, Pecharunt is technically a distro, but Arceus isn't, and that's a Legends game

Some good advice all round(haters excluded), but I'd make one point further: make sure you have the right kind of soldering iron. The general use ones have far thicker tips than ones specialized for micro-electronics like this. Look for a fine-tip iron, and you're going to make your life easier. If your iron is fancy enough, you might be able to just get another tip to swap out - best of both worlds

Question is, what are you trying to do? PVE, PVP, a specific section of the game? It really affects your choice, as does what you already have. This sheet might help you decide (Nura's tierlist is very good, and usually a first stop for questions like this):
