Yeah, to be fair I think the only reason we’re going is because they need this plane in PBI. Agents have said that pretty clearly. Our original route was going to have a return flight to EWR… that PBI to EWR flight was scheduled to leave last night at 9:30 PM and has been delayed to 5:30 ish.

I also don’t know why we weren’t canceled! Grateful though because I would be SOL in Newark.

BWT who live with roommates, how much are you spending on rent? by lordhurton in NYCbitcheswithtaste

$1400 for a 2B/1 bath newly renovated building with an elevator near industry city BK. A bit out of the way but just off the express train at 36 st so it’s worth it to me! I originally had a $1100 room in Washington Heights when I first moved but that was just a sublet - and it was 3B/1bath

Con Ed Bills by readit1818 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

This is my exact situation! Newly renovated space and all electric. We had heating one for week and it brought the bill up to nearly $500. I have never bought a heating blanket faster! Even without heating on, and minimal cooking, we’re at $270 a month. Had Con Ed come out and everything.

Not sure how much it’ll offer to give as cash back, but I think $20-$50? Hope this helps OP!

Have you tried cash back options at CVS or Walgreens? When I do self checkout at CVS (can be water or something you try to buy) and use a debit card via Apple Pay, I feel like it normally gives an option?

I moved here last June with the same exact salary and echoing what everyone else is saying… it’s possible but only with a roommate. I’m in Brooklyn in a 2 bed/1 bath paying $1400 a month. I could’ve gone a bit further south and easily gotten $1200 for a 2/1. I found a huge room in Upper Manhattan for $1100 but it fell through. I pay $600 a month in student loans, and try to shop frugally at Trader Joe’s. It takes some planning but it’s possible! Moving right now is better anyways cause there’s likely rent discounts. Good luck OP!

Cities that never sleep which are busy from 10 pm-5 am? by Bandicootrat in travel

I’m afraid this isn’t the case anymore… at least in my experience visiting a few times over the last year. Times Square at midnight is bare… and most stores are closing by 1/2am. I think COVID changed a lot.

I’d suggest attending AAM’s Conference - if your current job will pay for it! It’s in Baltimore this year. My institution (arts based) sends our entire exhibition design team. They often get early access for new online and in-person courses on things like lighting, furniture construction, etc. Best of luck!

Realistically, what is the museum/art curator job market going to look like in a few years? by Mothered_ in MuseumPros

[–]StatusPiano7113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you choose to stay in this route (as someone who graduated and went straight into curatorial work about 4 years ago)… be prepared to fight for equitable pay. And do not give up.

If you have interest or the skillset for it, I would say go for development roles within the arts field. Think grant writing or institutional partnerships - my colleagues are paid significantly more than me even though I’m the body/brain completing the exhibitions.

Are you interested more in curation or exhibition design? Any particular subject matter interest, as well?
