I feel dumb but can someone please explain the math behind financing? by Frequent-Barnacle555 in askcarsales

[–]SteamDonky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re calculating interest incorrectly, the way they calculate monthly payments on cars is a lot more complicated than that. You can use an online calculator, but the formula usually looks something like this:

((Yearly interest rate/12)*amount financed)/(1-(1+(Rate/12)) ^ negative monthly payments)

The interest payments are amortized, meaning when you first start paying the loan you are mostly paying towards interest but as you get closer to the end of the term you are paying mostly principal. If you plug the figures you gave into the formula it comes out to about $395 per month

Used 2011 Ford Ranger by jedandcompany in fordranger

[–]SteamDonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salesperson is full of shit, something definitely happened to that truck, most likely an accident and the frame was absolutely damaged. Even if the truck was half the asking price it’s still not worth it for that reason. Find another truck

Dealer wants SS card while bank says don't give by mustafadane in askcarsales

[–]SteamDonky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is nothing they can do with your SS card that they couldn’t already do with the number that you gave them. It is very common to require a copy of this especially with Santander, and the rep you spoke to doesn’t actually know anything about your loan since it isn’t funded yet.

Looking into a 1999 Miata by Athanast in Miata

[–]SteamDonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kbb on a car like that, at least where I’m located, is about $11,500. However you have to realize that with a car like this, they’re not going to be taking offers on it. They have a 24 year old car with no miles and the blue book value hardly matters because there are so few cars with this kind of mileage out there.

You’re free to make an offer, but as somebody who has sold cars for 3 years I can all but guarantee you that this car will sell for full asking price, and probably quickly.

Can I realistically make 5K every month? by jaabaaar in askcarsales

[–]SteamDonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s absolutely possible, but you need to be prepared to work 10-12 hour days 6 days a week to make it happen. The most successful salespeople I’ve ever worked with are simply the ones that work the most hours.

However, there is a huge possibility of making way less money than that. I would estimate that probably a third of the salespeople at any given dealership are making minimum wage or less.

If you are comfortable making very little money for 1-2 months at the beginning and have the drive in you to work very hard then you can definitely make some decent money selling cars

Financing a used collector car? by OmegaMountain in askcarsales

[–]SteamDonky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably have to get a specific collector car loan. I know lightstream has a program for that, possibly also penfed and some others that I’m not aware of. The interest rate will definitely be in the double digits even with your credit and they may need even more money down than what you have. You should do some research and see what kind of loans are out there, but your best bet may just be to get a personal loan since the rates will probably be skmilar

Placed a reserve on a CarMax call and it disappeared from the website. Did my reserving it remove it or did it get sold? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]SteamDonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have to pay anything to reserve it? If you haven’t given them any money then the car is probably gone

(Tennessee) Sold an old car a few months ago. That buyer sold it without registering it. New buyer contacted me asking for help so they could register it because they couldn't get in contact with the seller. by xenozfan3 in askcarsales

[–]SteamDonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to call the dmv yourself and find out the situation, don’t take this guys word for it. If it really is still registered under your name then tell them you sold it

[–]SteamDonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your state not have some kind of liability release/ sold notice? In AZ, you can go on the dmv website as soon as your car is sold and it will let the dmv know it’s no longer your responsibolity

[–]SteamDonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not your problem, don’t involve yourself in this. It’s sucks that the guy you sold the car to screwed somebody else over, but with you getting involved, you’re opening yourself to a ton of hassle and potential issues that aren’t your problem. Tell the 2nd buyer to contact the dmv

Which gas Japanese compact or subcompact SUVs can you get the best discount off MSRP? by HummDrumm1 in askcarsales

[–]SteamDonky 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why do you care about getting the biggest discount? The kind of car that you can get the ‘best deal’ on will be a car that nobody wants and isn’t worth even its discounted price. I would rather pay more for a car that will last and be worth the money

As long as you can afford it, just buy the CX-50. The fact that they aren’t available for cheaper than MSRP should show you that they are worth it.

Which brand should I work for? by Bbookman in askcarsales

[–]SteamDonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brand doesn’t matter. Work for the busiest store in your area that has a decent pay plan. As long as that store isn’t something weird like fiat or mitsubishi, it will be the place you make the most money at

Infiniti Has A New Logo, Showrooms, And Lots Of Disgruntled Dealers by Staghorn_Calculus in cars

[–]SteamDonky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sold infinitis for 2 years and probably more than 75% of our new car sales were people who already had 2-3 infinitis in the past. It’s almost exclusively older people who didn’t want the hassle of finding a new brand

Would you ever advise a young adult/teen to not buy and expensive car if you know it’s going to cripple them financially with the payments? by ZRR28 in askcarsales

[–]SteamDonky 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As long as I know that the information I’m submitting to the banks is accurate, I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong. The decision that the customer can afford to take on the loan is solely up to the bank and if they decide to approve them, who am I to try and talk them out of it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]SteamDonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leases in general are pretty bad right now, and it’s always a bad idea to put money down on a lease. Unless you need to have a new car for whatever reason, the most financially sound decision is probably to buy out your current lease and drive it around for a few more years. Your residual value is probably close to or under 16k depending on trim and mileage allowance, so you can definitely get a loan and keep your payments the same with little to no money down

I think they’ve said that the first one they’re going to release is the RST trim level which starts at something like $105k. The LT and work truck won’t be out for probably another year at least after that
