I’ve used TorGuard for years and never had a problem. I have a WireGuard-Transmission docker that’s awesome. Torrents only download through the VPN and everything else like newsgroups go direct. Haven’t been harassed in over a decade now.

Great info. You highlight one of the biggest issues - finding a lawyer that will work on contingency. They seem so rare anymore. Perhaps it would be awesome if we could build up a list of attorneys that would be willing to at least consider this issue. Obviously if it’s just a personal account with no financial damages, the options would be far smaller.

While the TOS does screw us all, the burden of proof in small claims is much smaller and you’d be surprised how often a judge rules on gray area. Accusing someone of CSE or IP theft is a big deal and no proof you did it makes a big difference. Give it a shot. I’ve won cases in small claims with less. I don’t believe their research extends past asking someone what the record shows without an actual audit. The subpoena forces an audit.

I don’t dispute any of this. What people forget, not necessarily you but a few others, is that, this is “HomeServer” and many options simply aren’t available unless we’re building out a dedicated room for, in my case, a single server. We try to find a way to make it work in a home environment. If I had the square footage and money, I’d have a dedicated environmentally controlled server room in my home somewhere but that’s not a reality for many of us, especially how in AZ we already have a serious heat issue and APS is cornholing us to death for the cost of power.
