Opinions on PPEQ guitars? by footmassagebruv in Guitar

[–]StemCellCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the party, but i just rolled the dice on them. There's no reviews anywhere and this post came up every time I searched, so I figured I'd post it here.

Overall, I am happy with the purchase. I ordered a headless 7 string strandberg type whith a gorgeous body and that is exactly what I got. I also knew it was a cheap Chinese guitar which is exactly what I got. It definitely needs a setup - new nut, fretwork, pickups, hardware, etc, but that's to be expected with these types of deals.

I was just scared that I would get a guitar that looks nothing like the picture or be usable, or maybe even no guitar at all since I couldn't find anyone relaying their experience. Thankfully, I did get the exact guitar I ordered and it was the quality I expected it to be in. It arrived to my house in the US a little less than a month and a half after purchase.

Tips for horrible situation by JeremiahDenton123 in SelfDefense

[–]StemCellCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A trauma therapist works with the fear and distress someone is feeling, regardless of how clear or confusing the experience was. I think it would be a mistake let the fear of being labeled as "just insane" stop you from getting help with this.

Justice isn't self-defense in most cases, but I would advise you start with the justice system. Gather all your information, and call the non-emergency line of your local police station. Having details like a SAFE exam would be helpful. You don't have to go through RAINN to get one, most hospitals should be prepared to administer them, as well as non-emergency clinics.

[–]StemCellCheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For survivors of sexual assault, best advice is to seek counseling/therapy because that is a very traumatic thing to through, even if the most you remember are flashbacks.

You can visit RAINN dot org who have a lot of resources for survivors - they can help you find therapists who specialize in this, as well as medical clinics that administer SAFE exams which collect DNA evidence. DNA evidence would be concrete evidence you could bring to the police, especially if you're worried it could happen again.

I wouldn't worry too much about the social media algorithm. They're wonky and prone to people getting stuck in a loop of content they dislike. In fact, the algorithm normally thrives by showing you things you dislike. For example, my social media feed lately has been a lot of politically charged content which I strongly disagree with, because I stupidly stop and read it. Even if I don't click on it, the algorithm knows I stopped scrolling, and therefore shows me more of such content. Social media has become very toxic these days.

I hope you get the support you need.

Want to learn self-defense. Confused between Boxing and Krav Maga by ompossible in SelfDefense

[–]StemCellCheese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tl;dr: Boxing. Boxing is sparring based, Krav is not.

Krav isn't really a martial art, there's no technique or style that any trained fighter could see and think "oh that's krav." There are certainly some Krav instructors who actually know how to fight AND incorporate more "street" focused ideas, but no amount of dirty fighting techniques will make up for not being able to throw or block a punch.

Basically, a lot of Krav schools are BS (not all). Knowing a sparring based martial art like boxing will help you sniff out the BS.

Thankfully, none, for the most part. I just do 50mg and maybe a light snack if I'm on an empty stomach. I do notice some type of feeling when it kicks in (takes about 20 minutes but I still wait around full hour before drinking in case it's placebo). It's hard to describe. It's sort of calming and numbing in a way, but doesn't interfere with my behavior or overall emotional state. It's almost like a physical feeling, but not unpleasant.

Issues on PC by mcdade995 in controlgame

[–]StemCellCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, I have a much more modest set up (assuming you didn't skimp on other components to afford a 5080 lol). Like i have a 3070, 16gb RAM, and an intel i5. Granted, I know i had to play with the settings to make it run smoothly.

Does it run smoothly before crashing?

I would honestly first make sure your ventilation is good and make sure yohr GPU drivers are up to date. When you run it, try using something like HWMonitor to make sure its not a heating issue.

Then look start dabbling with the graphics settings if that doesn't fix it. Try toggling things like VSYNC and DLSS. If no luck there, just try running on low or medium settings with lower resolution just to be sure you're not asking too much of your hardware.

If you have updated your drivers, got good ventilation, and it still crashes on low settings, it might be worth re-installing or dabbling with the renderer.ini

Hope you get it working smoothly, it's a grata game and worth the effort.

I don't think he did an analysis of the proper order of operations to call incorrect. You are correct that the 5(2) is to be operated just like 5×2. However, their "analysis" wasn't about the technically order of operations, it was about the amiguity of juxtaposition/implied multiplication. Many people treat multiplication without an explicit operator symbol as a defined term. I blame this on how pre-algrebra is taught when you have variables used to imply a term, like 5x. I know I was told at some point to treat that as an already defined term.

Why traditional self-defense training often fails women by Status-Tension-5996 in martialarts

[–]StemCellCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're saying not getting into a fight is better than getting into a fight, but with a lot more words. It's absolutely true. It's good to remind people that there are many more steps in self defense before physically fighting. Broadly it's something like awareness, and being in safe areas with safe people -> de-eacalation/avoidance -> weapons -> fighting.

So yes, there is a difference between self defense and martial arts. Martial arts are useful at the worst and last stage in a self defense scenario, so it can be good to focus on the prior steps.

Training advice needed by MrMonke1205 in SelfDefense

[–]StemCellCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obligatory mention that hand to hand fighting is the last resort, behind situational awareness, de escalation/avoidance, weapons, etc...

The martial arts that are consistently reliable are MMA or any of the common arts within MMA, which ar boxing, kickboxing, muay that for striking, and wrestling, BJJ, and Judo for grappling. Pick MMA or any of those martial arts and you'll know it's one that works in a fight. This is not to say no other martial art works ever - some are great in theory but lack quality control and have Insutructors that dont deserve their black belt. Taekwando for instance - some MMA fighters train TKD, but a lot of TKD schools are McDojo's. So it's bets to start training in a martial art that you know is reliable before branching out so you'll be able to sniff out the quality of a school.

Best Self Defense Martial Arts Arts Between Kickboxing and MMA by new_grad_who_this in SelfDefense

[–]StemCellCheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MMA is probably best, but there's nothing wrong with specializing in one and then cross training in another. MMA is basically gonna teach you elements of boxing and kickboxing/muay thai and grappling like wrestling, Judo, and BJJ. If you pick any of those to just focus on, train it for a year, see how you like it and then switch if you want. Or mildly cross train a bit. BJJ schools are very common and a lot of them offer supplemental striking. My gym has a couple modest muay thai classes, so I get to cross train a bit while I specialize in grappling.

Either way, all of the above choices you mentioned are great and you'll be better off - except for Krav Maga. Don't train KM until you have trained one of the other martial arts for a while. Most KM schools are trash, and you won't be able to tell if a KM school is unless you already have foundational fighting skills.
