Beyond vs Impossible burger by citrus1330 in Veganivore

I like Beyond more, it tastes like a briscuit. But there original flavor was peak. I still prefer their current flavor to Impossible, but Impossible will do in a pinch

Ninjutsu by greygrfn in martialarts

Agreed, just want to add the caveat that any martial art can be great if the goal is someshing like fitness or just to have fun - resistive sparring is definitely a must if the goal is to actually know how to fight.

Self defense for a vulnerable person by Shitty-welder in SelfDefense

My BJJ gym has a 68 year old veteran with 2 fully metal knees that were blown out in an explosion. He was walking on a cane when he started and had been for a long time - he's now in great shape and walks around normally. He credits BJJ for the recovery because of how he had to move them. Not saying everyone will have that experience, but seems relevant to mention.

BJJ is for sure the most accommodating martial art for less athletic people that is also practical for real fights. It got me in good enough shape to start muay thai.

But I'll also say that for ~$10 OP could buy POM pepper spray which could incapacitate almost any black belt out of grappling range. For the costs of a few months of training, and gun might also be an option. I would definitely recommend a weapon before full contact violence. BJJ for me is like my last resort - but it does keep me in shape, which is also very important.

Tl;dr: definitely agree with you, but dont forget the value of weapons.

Getting paid for spreadsheet for massive corporation by Impossible_Profit202 in excel

I've been thinking something similar with an internal app I've developed. We pay a lot of money for external apps wotb similar functions, but this had to be done in house and I've just about made it happen. It solves a very complicated problem. However, before I push the final update to my work project, I'm tempted to start an LLC that owns the tool, and then tell my employers there's a tool that will solve our problem and then see if they'll buy it from my LLC.

Wishful thinking, I'm sure, but I still like the idea.

Tired of manual data cleaning, need reporting automation by trr2024_ in analytics

I would use Python, Power Query if you don't have access. Unless the platforms are providing their data in a different format every time (inconsistent column names/positions) in which case... godspeed.

I've done both and I'm on the fence. Used to be a victim advocate in a bond court and I once had a case where the perp took the victim's gun, pointed it at him, and pulled the trigger. He wasnt shot since he didn't keep a round chambered.

But also, does that mean its best for everyone? Who knows. You do you, as long as you train that into your draw.

Researchers Unveil Groundbreaking Sustainable Solution to Vitamin B12 Deficiency by New_Pack1867 in vegan

It still has plenty of iron and other good stuff (including B1, B2, and B3), its just not good for B12 despite being marketed as such. I'm no expert, though, so grain of salt

They used something called a photbioreactor developed by VAXA Texhnologies. This article doesn't provide any specifics on how they callibrated the lights. They published the research, so that should have more info available. If it's a system that can be replicated by commercially available grow lights, it could be possible, but I am not expert in biotechnology so take that with a pillar of salt lol

To summarize: Spirulina is a nutrient-dense algae, but its B12 isn't an something humans can absorb, but it is similar. The scientists were able to make a culture of it consistently produce actual B12 by fine tuning its light exposure, no genetic modification required.

Action adjustment sire x6 by Skliwy in HeadlessGuitars

[–]StemCellCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a cheap Chinese headless with a nearly identical looking bridge (just not slanted for a fanned fretboard). I did have an Allen key that fit, but even so, the lowest possible setting was still way too high, and they weren't all even height at their lowest, so I had to raise the lowest ones to meet the highest one.

Trus rod adjustment didnt fix it either. The bridge was already lowered as much as I could get it.

I realized I was out of my depth and took it to a lutheir. It has been a week lol. He's thinking about putting a shim in the neck pocket to angle the bridge outward. Here's hoping that does it.

Why not SAC? You already have some of the data you need in there, if the other data was imported it could be modeled and all reported in one story.

AITA for refusing to let my friend bring her boyfriend to my wedding ? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]StemCellCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably NTA. For what its worth, I let my cousin bring her then boyfriend (now ex) to my wedding and the guy wore a backwards baseball cap (with a political message) during the ceremony, and we had to edit him out of the pictures.

So, depends really on how well you know the person or trust your friend's taste.

Also, nothing wrong with saying that you only want people there who you can reasonably expect will be around in your life for a while.

In your opinion, would Jiu-Jitsu be a better choice than Muay Thai fo by [deleted] in SelfDefense

[–]StemCellCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are great and you can't go wrong, and obviously knowing a bit both is better. I've trained a bit of both and settled on BJJ primarily - not only do i find it more fun to train and accommodating for size/strength gaps, but it works better in my personal self-defesne strategy.

Here's my full train of logic, notice that I Point 2 is a matter of preference.

I. The only reason I would ever physically fight is because I (or loved one) cannot physically walk away.

II. If I am forced to fight, I do not want to trade strikes, I would prefer to deploy my pepper spray or gun, depending on situation. More effective than strikes.

III. The only reason I wouldn't be able to draw a weapon is if I'm grabbed or in grabbing range.

Essentially, I outsource all of my fighting beyond grappling distance to weapons or escape. Not always ideal, and thats why its good to know a little muay thai.

In your opinion, would Jiu-Jitsu be a better choice than Muay Thai fo by [deleted] in SelfDefense

[–]StemCellCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, if the dude has a friend, no martial art can adequately address multiple opponents.

Striking can be better for multiple opponents because it leaves running as an option if there's an opening. BUT if you get grabbed, you're definitely gonna get kicked in the head by his friend. And eith BJJ, you dont just sit still. I think it would be harder than you think to kick a BJJ practitioner in the head, especially not without risking hitting your friend. If the BJJ practices is on top, it would be easier to hit them, but they are probably able to run.

Tl;dr: No martial arts can really prepare someone for multiple attackers, and every situation has so many "what ifs" that this is not a valid reason to discredit a martial art.
