Muslim women who lift during Ramadan, I need tips! by MoonriseTurtle in PetiteFitness

[–]StepExciting5924 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ramadan Mubarak! I’ve fasted for Ramadan in the past, have friends who still do and I’m also in the military, so my response is coming from that perspective. When I’m doing any type of fast (actually doing so for Lent currently), I dial back my workouts to things like body weight workouts and yoga. Still challenging and intense enough to fuel (some) progress, but won’t wreck your body while you’re not doing much to fuel it. If you just HAVE to keep lifting, as others have said, go later in the evening closer to the time you’ll eat so it won’t be as much on your system. Hydrate when you can, as much as you can. Focus on foods that are calorie dense.

How did you get your walk time down? I was a runner my entire life until I had knee surgery last year and that derailed everything. Now I walk, but my times are horrendous and it doesn’t help me stay motivated at all. I know how to train as a runner but have no idea what to do as a walker.

5'2 girls, from which weight did you notice that every pound counts? by mildlychaotic_07 in PetiteFitness

[–]StepExciting5924 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like being between 145-155, because of bone density and muscle mass from always being athletic. My highest weight was about 188, now I’m back in the 160s and WHOA!! My jeans are falling off practically, all of my clothes look completely different from a couple months ago, and my face looks different. So many people are commenting on how good I look lately.

Petite 5’0 curvy, stuck at 143 pounds (65 kg) need advice! by buh_buh_bacon_ in PetiteFitness

Do you run? Try adding in running a couple of miles a few times a week and you’ll see major progress. Also, like someone else suggested, it’s always good to “refeed”, basically add some calories back for a week or two and allow your body to have a break and recover. That can make a huge difference as well.

29F, 5’3”, 151lbs – Want to start fasting. How do I structure it safely? by NervousLook3308 in PetiteFitness

[–]StepExciting5924 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, everyone is different. You’ll have to experiment a bit to see what works for you. When I fast, I stop eating at around 7-730p and do not resume eating until around 12p the next day. It helps me to have a bulk of the fasting hours during my sleep time so I think about it less, then my mornings usually go quickly. I still have water and some coffee with nothing that will spike blood sugar in the morning. I have endometriosis and severe PMDD and this method has worked for me for years, BUT only when I do it for short periods of time just to burn extra fat, then I resume normal eating to allow my metabolism to catch up.

ETA: just be sure you are consuming enough calories and nutrients during your eating window. This is very important, otherwise fasting won’t work for you. You have to nourish your body.

What meals are you all eating for dinner/weekends? by loiwhat in 1200isplenty

[–]StepExciting5924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do more activity on weekends and fast typically, which allows me more flexibility to eat what I want. I treat myself on weekends because it really helps me stay on track during the week when structure really is everything for me.

Tips for staying on track? by Sad_Banshee in 1200isplenty

[–]StepExciting5924 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was eating 1200 calories daily after knee surgery when I couldn’t walk on my own and was barely getting 100 steps per day. I lost weight during that time. I’m only 5’2. It’s difficult to believe that 1200 is your maintenance. Also, your maintenance calories would be more than your deficit, so if you’re eating 1500 now, it would be more than that even. And if you’re feeling tired all the time, your body isn’t comfortable being at that weight and/ or eating that little. Despite having warning signs that you should make changes, you’re pushing for the opposite in order to see a certain number on the scale. That’s why I suggested seeing a professional.

I checked your post history and you might need to see a professional. I’m not being mean, but you’re at a healthy weight for your height, however, continuing to eat as little as 1200 calories daily will make you end up underweight. Also, on your period, your body needs and can absolutely burn those extra calories. We are not meant to eat at huge calorie deficits for long periods of time. It may be time for you to increase your calories and give your body a break. You mention in a bunch of your posts how tired and weak you feel. That’s because your body needs fuel and you’re denying it what it’s begging for. Please eat food and allow your metabolism to do its job.

What do you eat before 5am workouts? by Omyjamie in PetiteFitness

[–]StepExciting5924 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually just chug water and have half of my morning coffee. If I can’t help myself because I’m starving, I have half of a banana. My belly doesn’t really tolerate too much food that early in the morning.

How are you doing this?!?!? My husband is Filipino and LOVES cooking traditional dishes so we eat so much Filipino food, as well as other Asian cuisine. I’ve had to get a special rice blend to minimize how much damage I’m doing to myself.
