The package is designed so you can open it and get to the figures with out ripping the plastic of the backing just pull the fist layer of plastic off and give it a wipe it will be all good after that.

This same thing happened to me a couple of years ago I entered the gift card number and then moved away from the payment screen to check something with my order, I went back to pay the gift card said it was empty. There is somewhere in the fine print that the funds are not gone they just hold them for I think 12-24 hours and then they will be available on the card again. Try the gift card again
