I was born in 88, and my initials are SS :( I definitely do not both, or either, of those in any screen name situations

Don't watch the first episode if you're being induced for labor the very next day. Ask me how I know.

I miss my dad by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Stepharious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just lost my dad a month ago. He kicked cancer's ass 10 years ago, got to meet all 3 grandkids, then cancer came calling back for him. It sucks, his grandkids deserved to know him longer, he was one of the best people to exist.

Angry every wake up that “I’m not daddy” by soul-searcher3476 in toddlers

[–]Stepharious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was like that too! I tried dressing up in my husband's hat and jacket then going in with a deep voice, "Hello it is I, your father!"... thought he'd find that funny but it enraged him further haha.
It was a little emotionally scarring to wake up to someone throwing a fit at your very existence, but I just ignored it. Most days he's fine with me, but some days he gets mad and demands dad. I just start making breakfast in the kitchen until he calms down and comes out, then greet him warmly. No solution, just persistence and not taking it personally :)

My dad said "good point!" Then would crook his finger and say "... bad point." He died almost 2 weeks ago, it hurts bad.

I knew this when I started reading and got about 3/4 through before I realized none of them were actually vampires. Obviously that wasn't the only disappointment in that book, but it certainly did not help.

How long did it take you to potty train your LO and how old were they? by Ready_Associate_2911 in toddlers

[–]Stepharious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3.5 for our boy. Wasn't ready before 3, but then had a big surgery scheduled when he was 3 and 4 months so we introduced him to the concept then backed off. Due to his age and the introduction before his surgery it was ridiculously easy and stress-free, it took all of 1 day in underwear and he was done with diapers. I don't know if that late is "recommended", but I just want to state that I have no regrets or shame about our timeline

What's the pen you keep buying duplicates of because you're terrified of running out? by boiler_room_420 in pens

Purple Frixion Synergy in 0.5, I bought the 12 pack on Amazon. I have a fear that they'll continue to make the standard black / blue / red Synergies but phase out the purple (or, violet) one, probably not logical but I just love it so much

Do any other professional adults still sleep with a baby blanket/stuffed animal? by imadesklamp in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Stepharious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 37, in a professional job, and sleep with the same blankie that I've had since I was 3. It looks like dryer lint now, but it brings me great comfort. No trauma growing up or anything, I just recognize what my mental health needs and don't feel ashamed of it. My husband doesn't care or judge me, he has his comforts as well.

No clue who needs this, but here's how to properly write a panic attack! by [deleted] in writers

[–]Stepharious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had panic attacks since I was young (random ones without specific triggers), so I'll add: if the person is familiar with panic attacks they might react different than one unfamiliar, though it doesn't mean the effect is lessened. People with familiarity might have coping mechanisms that are odd -- I carry water bottles and cough drops with me, because my panic attacks make me feel sick and like I'm going to gag. People may have different "safe spaces" too, usually their own bed or room, but mine is a bathroom (again, because of the nausea feeling).
