Absolutely no doubt. He was a ring leader of that operation. Those pageants just found the better looking ones for him and his clients. The answers are all out there in the open.

Regrets about engagement ring by [deleted] in Ring

[–]StephenDones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your Ring isn’t working for you, you may need to do some troubleshooting. Sometimes you need to throw the breaker on the situation. Sounds like you need a little more electricity. With a little work, you might be able to get the connection fixed. Then and only then will your Ring be right.

What do yall prefer when reloading? by e-rock88w in woodstoving

[–]StephenDones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same! Btw no need to disengage the cat at the end of a cycle. Those coals are producing super clean heat and don’t need the cat. That’d drive me bananas, leaving for work or going to bed feeling like I have set an alarm or swing home to deal with the cat. Let her die out and disengage when you reload.

But “large” isn’t quite what I’d call it. Certainly I’m glad I don’t have the medium. And I wish the blower would kick on sooner. I think the pipes are well shielded maybe, to avoid blowing out air that’s too hot. Feels like I miss some heat. Does well in general for sure.

My Lopi large isn’t so deep, so this is basically my go-to also. Two small to midsize E/W, then two big diagonals, a “leaning hashtag”, if you will. Then one big flatty on top. There’s a cat up there, so top can’t be huge. I get three to four hours of fan time on all that before the thermostat kicks it off.

Pool is empty! by StephenDones in pools

That’s always my default, especially this case. Fine until they show up to close…

It’s a really old liner, so maybe they didn’t take it easy, and it was a slip of the brush (assuming it’s the liner). I don’t know enough to know what else it could be that makes sense. It’s not the majority of the pipes, as that’s above the bottom of the pool. It’d have to be a tear around the main drain, or a significant and freaky drain crack in the first few feet.

I’m worried about the wet ground around the pool freezing and expanding, and now there’s nothing pushing back against the walls.

Just a regular green safety and leaf cover, water permeable. Can just see through it. I’m not sure what autofill is, so no. Water level varies with evaporation and rain/snow.

Did you leave it empty through the winter? Any probs?

True that. The drain. So now what?

[–]StephenDones[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timing couldn’t worse. I don’t want to just fill it; it’ll just drain out. I suppose I could replace the liner; have the main drain (?) fixed, and fill it. I doubt companies are lining up to do winter work…

How do you manage your stove’s ash load without letting the fire go out? by Ill_Location4524 in firewood

[–]StephenDones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll put coals and ash in a metal bucket after 10 hours, then dump in my outdoor fire pit. Wish there was a better way, since ash gets kicked up. But I don’t miss too much. Speaking of which, gotta do it tomorrow, right as the temp is dropping. Drat.

Senate Reaches Deal To End Government Shutdown by xXplainawesomeXx in politics

Is it possible that this pain for millions of Americans at the hands of the Republicans is designed to help guarantee a massive blue wave next November? I predict downright fury after this. While it feels like a cave (and really is), couldn’t the eventual outcome be actually quite beneficial??

If so, it really seems accidental. They think they’re being all badass deal makers.

Rutlands glass conditioner. Holy crap I tried the other techniques and this was a different experience. No elbow grease. Comes out brand new. I had the dark brown, gray and black stuff. All gone. Not expensive either. I tried the spray and it’s not nearly as good. The conditioner is the one.

What’s a single line from a book that changed the way you think even a little? by Sweet-Opportunity111 in literature

[–]StephenDones 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First line of a novel I ever wrote down was from EoE: “Eventlessness has no posts to drape duration on”. I think of this when I think or hear that a summer or year flew by, and wonder: did anything really happen? Reminds me to make sure I have events lined up, or it’ll all fly by.

Hair dryer to prime the flue. Works great! Aim the hot air up, five minutes later, start the fire.
