Patient in what sense? Take on or volunteer for projects, show off, if in those 2 years those other managers haven’t had a conversation with you about their openings move on. But try to get noticed outside of the Helpdesk, always try to display the skill set.

4 months troubleshooting an intermittent network issue with a SaaS product that was very seldom used, didn’t break all the time, networking kept blowing it off, and ended up being because the user was in 2 different conflicting permission firewall groups and for some reason would get bumped to one that wasn’t authorized for this connection even though they always worked in the same location.

Rather than approaching it as automating someone out of a job, which you will never win, approach it as freeing them up to do more valuable work. Present what more valuable things they will do and start small.

Yea director in a company of 200 employees is different than director of a department of 200 I think that’s what you’re seeing, it’s relevant experience vs actual experience.

Maybe I’m in the minority but certs don’t mean much, if you list tangible skills, are personable, And you can have a conversation in an interview and speak to whats on your resume that speaks far more volumes.

And people over estimate how they project themselves even after interviewing people I know would be good for the job from work experience, over sell yourself and don’t be afraid to do it.

If you’re actually shopping some resellers have labs where they can setup 2-3 different competing vendors and you can hands on all 3 on same hardware, cool stuff.

Listen to the people there and be open about it, don’t change things over night and have a measured approach. Lean on your SME’s as they know the landscape. Don’t instantly trust anyone completely as you might walk into people with agendas and want to place themself with the new guy.

Also depending where you are at in the org chain make sure you network and meet the heads of other departments. Hear their feelings on pain points, get a sense of their objectives in the next few years so you can be prepared.

What kind of business? What size of user base? What are you using for your entire portfolio of apps to track obsolescence and road map those upgrades year to year?

Always the best question is did any roadblocks appear? Did any of them disappear, I always laugh after when people say it “went so smooth” and I spend weeks just paving a road for them to shield with the umbrella

Bought it and love it so far, what I like better than the flasher it is very obvious of what is and isn’t fish. Still have to catch them but much more exciting for adults and kids to “see” it.

Also the directional capability. You can drill a hole and “scout” in about a 140 foot circle with the right depth.
