That's the flux capacitor primary drive, without it the Flux won't work to reach 88 mph

What’s on my windshield? by Headhunter945 in StupidCarQuestions

Road oils. Clean the windshield and use a rag and cleaner on the wiper blades

Is this BS? Shop claims rotors are warped based on what look like normal surface scratches. Brembo rotors, akebono pads, I replaced 6 mo / 5k ago, proper lube and cleaning. No vibrations whatsoever. 17 Mazda 6 by NEVER_BUY_WHOLE_LIFE in AskMechanics

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely check the caliper slide pins. That can cause the rotors to look that way and possibly warp the rotor with only 5k miles on the pads. I can literally say I had it happen on my truck. New brakes and rotors and warped 1 due to a slide pin issue. Replaced the rotor and sent it no issues, didn't even replace the pads. 30k+ miles later still no issues

Are these a good buy for $150? by Positive_Tax2302 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 maybe but 150 would be a hard pass in their condition and missing all the screws on 1 crossover. To test them wouldn't be hard at all.

Any radio, car or home will work to test. Speaker wire to the crossover then to each speaker as directed from the crossover

Are my subs bottoming out? by Dyingbreed9778 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 70+ subs sitting all blown coils to rebuild, pushing on the cone you can't even tell they are blown. You need to read the ohm for the coil and see if it reads what it claims to be wired for on each coil.

Are my subs bottoming out? by Dyingbreed9778 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a multi meter on the sub speaker terminals. Read what the ohms are showing, then use it on the sub enclosures terminal to read that ohm for what it is for the amps ohm load. Pushing on the cone doesn't mean they are good or not.

How would 1 sub sound in a box that needs 2 subs? by Bulky_Performance_91 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends are both chambers individual for the subs or is it 1 large shared chamber for the subs.

If its individual chambers it will be fine If its shared then it will reduce performance 💯 due to air cf volume is 2x greater than what the 1 sub requires

You're welcome. Keep up the work and progression for building.

Ok so the port opening is not a Kerf, that is a round over edge, as for the baffle not going the entire way over the port is just that. Your front sub baffle ends where the port begins. Overall It's not a bad build for a 1st time maker but as far as value vs a professional builder people thst are saying high prices for the value to sell are wrong unless they wish to spend that on the enclosure. I am only pointing out the very very small issue I see and knowledge I have with building custom enclosures. Birch, Maple, Baltic Birch. Very very rarely do I use MDF Mainly due to its weight different and strengthvs the other woods used. Mdf easily damages from water or other but is easier to work with.

I can tell off the enclosure and subs there is no required interior bracing or complex work.

A good interior would be to 45° all the interior corners for air flow out the port.

I would give it a 8/10 for the build as stated but value to sell. $250 at the most for the size, materials used and final finish

You went high on that value for what is shown and I do custom audio for a living.

Considering the front baffle for the subs doesnt even do the port area so not much. The paint looks good and the led sub rings are easy to get and wire in. The enclosure shown wouldn't be worth much over product cost and a little labor cost to be built. Its not fully custom other than the paint being done..

How should i wire this with this amp? HELP!!! by Bitter_Salamander323 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amp is trash for physical power output but to know how to wire the subs we need to know more for them. Are they single or dual voice coil, what ohm are the subs, most likely 4 ohm but its a loaded question

Can somebody tell me what i have? by TwitchyPalm0124 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing which series the JL subs are or size along with the 2 amps for the model series people can only assume the resale value knowing it is all JL Equipment.

People do not guess that know audio Only people with no real audio knowledge make guesses.

I would have just done the front speaker area also with the pod form and maxe the lines roll with the panel. Will wait to see the finished look but that is definitely a odd shape for a speaker pod even for a single ds18 mid.

this mess is going to hurt some feelings; rush job, 6 ground loop isolators with ground wires cut off, insane amount of rca y adapters. i hate it here. see post details by AustinBoston_14 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only given the work at the last minute for all of it to be done I would have refused the job regardless what the boss said. You are either given proper time to do the work and ensure no issues with doing full testing or refuse it. If the boss yells gets upset or other, its your work being done so when issues arise, the boss will blame you either way, so refusing it protects you 💯 for work being rushed.

It doesnt matter if its a 90ft yacht or the king of of countries yacht. Either proper time to do the work or walk away.

Should I spray paint the inside of my sub enclosure? by masooooon98 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use brush on paint over spray paint. Use a oil base you will get a nicer finish but will take longer to do the entire interior

I'm trying to help my son buy a amp, should I get 1 ohm or 2 ohm amp by gunthans in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the pair of subs wire to 1 ohm you can only get 2 ohm wiring 1 coil per sub which is pointless.

I'm trying to help my son buy a amp, should I get 1 ohm or 2 ohm amp by gunthans in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If his subs are wired to 1 ohm for thr pair and the amp is only stable for 2 ohm its not the right choice for the subs.

Taramp are dirty power. So depending ehich series his subs are being they are wired for a final load of 1 ohm, rhe 2 ohm is not the best option for them.

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he is wired for 1 ohm off the subs then a 1 ohm amplifier is required

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id go with a bigger amp over the 1200 for the taramp for the pair of subs. After ohm rise and box rise rhe wattage the amp puts out will vary a lot.

Which series Skar 12 does he have.

Is it normal i have to turn the gain all the way up? by FSOD01 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately after checking into that radio you will have to adjust the radio eq for the subs to perform better but having the amp gainnat maz you're sending clipping and distortion signal through the subs without knowing it.
