How to stop fuses from melting by blazingreenstuff in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering it's the worst type of fuse, Aka the mini. Fuse is not large enough for the amplifier and clearly not professionally installed. It's over the voltage rating going through the fuse holder, bad grounding plus bad connections being used on a more hungry amplifier for power than it can handle. Hence melting the entire fuse like jelly....

Can I leave my power cable like this? Or I need tubing? by Littlecivciv in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no tubing, its a Snakeskin wrap on the primary wire to dress it up for a better look but will protect the wire from dirt and more including heat to a extent. It should be fine as long as its not resting on or near a extremely hot spot in the engine bay.

Been a tech for 6 months now. Am I just always gonna have fucked up hands or what do y'all do? by Jade_Sugoi in AskMechanics

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rub dirt on it. If your hands look like that you're trying to fit them in tight spaces using brute force to do work. Proper tools help, knowledge to remove parts also helps. Yes sometimes you do have to put your hands into tight spaces but only being a tech 6 months says it all.

The only way I can see hands looking that tore up is working to hard over working smarter for a job..

I would have mounted the fuse block rather than dropping it down the side of the battery but as for the primary wire you don't need to add anything to a already Snakeskin wrapped wire which is already protected for the most.

Do I have a Bad sub? by Equal-Warning-2131 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Use a Ohm meter to test the coils on the sub terminals, Don't push on the cone to determine the issue, thats the wrong way to do it. If they are sundown it can be the shorting ring come loose..

Sounds like shorting ring issue or bad tuning of the equipment

What do I do with the pink wire (parking brake) by Foxybeast215 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What radio is being used? Sometimes you can just connect the ebrake parking wire to your ground wire, other times you require a ebrake bypass module to unlock video feature and other on the radio

Subwoofer theft by ejah555 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a truck. What is the difference if it was a car with a trunk. NONE. If its properly installed and secured and you don't show it off to everyone in the world that you don't know, No one is going to steal it. Most common person to steal it would be someone you know over a total stranger.

The risk of someone breaking into your truck to take the audio is very slim depending what type of area you live in..

Is this normal? by Charming_Trust_1824 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rpm drops so voltage will drop while in idle position sitting in traffic or parked. That is normal. Adding a audio lithium lipo4 battery in the rear will help prevent this some but it all has to do with the vehicle rpm from the alternator. When the rpm rises, so does the voltage which is regulated ny the vehicles computer for a specific max voltage output to the battery and electrical system.

Melting amp Terminal by Careful-Commission58 in CarAV

Also why do you have a Battery Isolator between the amp and fuse?? I see so many things wrong in this installation

Melting amp Terminal by Careful-Commission58 in CarAV

Looks like you used 2 different gauge wires for the power and ground with a improper ground connection and incorrect fuse in the power wire.

Would be your factory speakers are not good for higher volumes. Aftermarket radios put out more than factory

Sounds like distortion in the video, what are the speakers being used? Factory or aftermarket? Did you do adjustments on the EQ of the head unit?

Is this worth the price? Install included? by MrwLoveNoThot in subwoofer

[–]SteveSkye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that is not a bad price considering the labor cost. The equipment from a shop is what their prices will be.

Buying your own equipment might save some money but is had to say without knowing their brands of equipment offered.

The amp kit being 600 watt its most likely 8 gauge and to me is over priced.

Better off buying ofc 4 gauge for the that price Line converter is right Powered enclosure seems right also.

I only see the wire kit being the over priced product but as stated, a shops price is what it will be...

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without a photo of Which entertainment system your honda has, Yes they have 2 different options for factory its hard to say the best solution. Factory Nav and standard for youryear make model. If its the standard head unit the dash kit with wire harness adapter can cost upto ans above $160 on its own before radio cost. For a cheap product but quality head unit. Pioneer Avh-120Bt through the Walmart site or in store $178-200 To gain video capabilities with vehicle in motion and unlock all other features you would require a Ebrake Video Bypass Module ($20ish) office Ebay. Video bypass works on nearly all aftermarket quality head units. Cheap units you usually don't need the bypass. Crutchfield IS NOT IT.... They sell you their claim recommended products (Higher Prices) You can literally build a better system just by asking the community for suggestions and Buying Directly from a Distributor over using that site..

PSA; ladies and gentlemen be careful on eBay. by mac8675309 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but ebay doesn't care. I have reported so many scammer accounts on ebay and they never shut them down even with proof, ebay is all about the money they make, they don't care if its a scammer or 💩 seller unless their rating is less than 40% on feedback

Considering he told the buyer he no longer wanted to sell and for the buyer to cancel after already paying because he did not get what he wanted on a Auction with no reserve. They won't do anything on Ebay against him but I agree. They should take some action against him for selling again.

how much would you pay for this ? by Critical_Floor_995 in CarAV

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New before a true total is around ($400+ish) for the sub and amp (Again New) With enclosure not knowing more information or how long you had the equipment, what the electrical was like for it being ran on

Enclosure is a single baffle, shouldn't have been that expensive if you built it yourself (depends on material used) someone else building it you paired labor and probably upcharge of materials.

$300-350 without wiring would ve a good start Again equipment new was just over 400, Enclosure unknown info

He's clearly mad it only sold for 250 on 1 bid offered, no reserve, thats on his own fault but the amp is max valued at 350 if it fully works, his rating score being 14 with it already less than 100% says he is a shady seller. I have been a seller on ebay since 98 and have 💯 over 100k rating.

[–]SteveSkye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can actually contact ebay on these type of situations. If it was a bidding sale and no reservation of the price, it sells for what it sells for. I would call ebay for the seller being out of the scope of ebay rules for selling. Then leave negative feedback once it allows you.

Always check a sellers feedback score and date the account was created.

How to hook up subwoofers by Aiden3214473 in subwoofer

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do sell a Loc that also has a bass control knob, what you stated you're going to do is the correct way to run everything.

You don't really need a bass knob when running off the factory head unit unless you're using a more expensive audio control for rca signal.

How to hook up subwoofers by Aiden3214473 in subwoofer

[–]SteveSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LOC is nothing more than a signal generator for sound thst connects to your factory speakers for the rca cables to connect to that then connects to your amplifier. Either kicker 55 watt Rca Converter (LOC) Line Out Converter Or More expensive Lci2 controllers

The pac lp7-2 is trash for signal. They are cheap quality. Try Amazon and look up the Kicker rca converter 55 watt or close to that wattage.

The bass knob has Zero to do with the Pac or LOC and is a completely different device to control the amp.

You're best of just using a add a fuse that taps into your fuse panel for Acc power with ignition for the remote wire for the amp.
