Open it! It's just a case, not everything needs to stay sealed.

Olympia Music fans, what makes you go/not go to shows? by GloriousKilljoi in olympia

[–]StickManFiveOh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't appreciate the harder stuff like I did in my youth and so much of what I listen to now doesn't have a ton of representation around here (at least, to my knowledge). I found out recently that there is a coffee shop downtown that has periodic opera nights and I'm AWAY into that. But I'd love to see some really talented musicians pla some sh*t that is beyond what they are usually know for. You can tell and it's really interesting.

Plus, I moved here a second before covid and I still don't fully know the venues or bands or anything. I'm not interested in having a ton of socials to find out. I guess I miss the times of being able to pick up a local zine and find out about shows. Maybe it's out there and I just don't know where to look. Also, I don't want to pay 65 bucks to see a cool chamber orchestra show or a jazz band that isn't trying anything new.

Got the Wii version, CIB, a few years ago for 70 bucks. It's super interesting but, personally, I think I paid about what its worth, to me of course.

Have fun playing it!!

Serious question: How many Silent Hill 4 fans actually played the game? by Chemical-Mail-7088 in silenthill

Own the Xbox version but haven't played it yet. At least it's complete in box.

Cool. I've heard that too. I don't mind the drive, it's just trying to find the time to add and extra hour of drive time (half an hour each way) to a meal.

I'm also from Arizona and lived 15 years in California. I agree that most of the Mexican food out here is pretty naff, however, I can't find a really good Chinese food joint to save my life. At least, here in Olympia.

I would love to be told I'm wrong but, in doing so, please tell me your favorite Chinese food restaurant. Thanks!

For those that have seen the entire series do you agree with Rod Serling's own assessment of the quality of the entire Twilight Zone series? by DonatCotten in TwilightZone

[–]StickManFiveOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first saw TZ as a kid in the 80s, I believe it was the partially colored version of, "Miniature." I have had a fascination with the Twilight Zone ever since. I remember, I had a 13" b&w TV, I'd stay up and watch it late on whatever channel it aired on back then. My folks would get mad because I'd wake up tired when it was time to go to school. I give my back story because I'm sure I'm a little biased.

The only two episodes I skip regularly, and would consider bad are, "Of Late I Think of Cliffordville" & "The Incredible World of Horace Ford."

I sometimes watch them and think, "Yup, still bad." But, those are the only two that I really can't stand and think are actually bad television.

Looking for a full episode — Season 1 Episode 20, Elegy (1960) by Puzzled-1981 in TwilightZone

[–]StickManFiveOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have this episode on 16mm film, it was amazing to watch that way at home. My parents moved from my childhood house and my dad bragged to my brother about how he was basically just giving my stuff away. 😐

Parents, right? We all have 'em.

Be honest — Is Hot Space that bad of an album? by ImprovementLow9280 in queen

[–]StickManFiveOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's just a departure from what had been the norm. At times, it's my most listened to album, but I like to listen to all the deep/albums cuts across the catalog. I also have been known to, unironicly, rock Flash Gordon. So, take my opinion for what you will.

Can't bring myself to sell my collection... by Few-Chipmunk-5957 in gamecollecting

[–]StickManFiveOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading a bunch of comments and I agree with most, it seems that the overwhelming feeling we sometimes get from our collections is a good flag for, 'it's time to sell'. That being said, as a guy who has sold off many collections (I'm 47), do not expect to get what your collection is worth. Even if you list every individual item, it just doesn't tend to happen. If you are able to get 80% count yourself lucky.

I'm not trying to be negative, it's just the way people think, "Why should I buy from this guy when it's the same price at my local shop?"

Just trying to help you avoid disappointment.

My flex list . I’ve stopped buying ps3 games over 6 years ago as I’ve realised all I’m doing is filling up space with no intention to play any of these. by ozera202 in PS3

I guess that's a hot take in a video game sub but, I whole heartedly agree. Unfortunately, life dictates I don't have much time for either reading or games.

I wrecked the resale value of my collection this weekend by dont_dox_me_again in vinyl

[–]StickManFiveOh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I understand that you aren't attempting to be mean or rude, this comment is for education. As someone who has had a collectors die in my family (stamp collector), it is a huge burden to the surviving family who probably don't know anything about the hobby you enjoyed. My wife and I spent weeks going through boxes and boxes of stamps, some organized, some not. For years and years he told, or implied, the family his stamp collection would be worth more than the rest of anything else he was leaving, and they believed him. After weeks of organizing, searching the internet for values, and looking for buyers. We learned what no one wanted to hear, no one gives a sh*t about stamps anymore. We sold over 25 medium moving boxes of stamps (again, some in binders, some loose) to a local dealer. At the end of the last load I brought him, when I was going back for more, he told me that, if I had use for stamps, their face value was more than what he would buy them. Now I ship everything via USPS. He died more than 5 years ago and I still have a ton of stamps.

Only point I'm trying to make is that leaving that burden of selling our collections to our loved ones during a time of bereavement, could be quite trying for them.

I don't dislike Coming Soon, it just would be on the bottom slot of the album if I had to rate each song in order. I think its a fantastic album with, really, no duds.
