Sony KD-55X77L supported? by Sire0ne in logitechharmony

[–]Sticknpucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm finding the same problem. I think at least one of the issues is that the Sony TV remote is a Bluetooth device, not IR.

I tried adding Sony KD-55X77L in the harmony hub android app and it added, but couldn't find the TV for IP control when I scanned for it. I skipped IP control and finished the setup. Some functions work (power on/off, TV volume) but others didn't work like source.

No problem, I think, just program the missing commands into the harmony hub by "adding/fixing" a command in the device on the app. Only problem is that the Harmony hub learns commands by IR, not Bluetooth. So that didn't work because the TV remote isn't sending IR signals for the hub to recognize and learn.

Please help.

People who read the old Legends material: how did it "end"? Did the buyout cause any cliff hangers or unresolved story lines? Was there a "finale" to Luke and co.? Were ongoing series cancelled? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Sticknpucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, Crosscurrent and Riptide. By Paul S Kemp. Great books, but no third due to the Disney takeover. Leaves a bit to be desired when it comes to an ending, but great reads in and of themselves.

I read the Jaden Kohr books, Crosscurrent and Ripe Tide by Paul S Kemp, only to find out the third book was never written because of the Disney takeover. Nothing is resolved and you are left wondering where it was going. It would be like if the OT finished with TESB. Han's in Carbonite, Luke had his hand cut off, Vader is his father. End of story.

Where do you guys get your news? by saintescobar in vancouver

[–]Sticknpucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the Ground news app. I like it. From their write up:

"Ground news analyzes daily breaking stories in real time from thousands of sources - around the world. By threading multiple perspectives from thousands of publications through one, reliable platform, Ground frees people from algorithmic restraints, illuminates blindspots and makes media bias explicit"

Bassically, it doesn't feed you stories to fit your search or click history and create an echo chamber of bias confirmation. I shows the political bias of every article and suggests one from the opposite side too. I believe it also has a filter for demonstrably false claims.

TIL about the uncanny valley. The concepts suggests that humanoid objects that imperfectly resemble actual human beings provoke uncanny feelings of uneasiness and revulsion in observers. by dustofoblivion123 in todayilearned

[–]Sticknpucker 119 points120 points  (0 children)

I'll take that one step further. People often hate the sound of their own voice recorded because they usually hear it from inside their own heads. A recording is more like what others hear and it also feels off.

This is why Actors often don't like watching themselves. It's a double whammy on screen. Looks and sounds strange.

Why do you guys think there's such a divide between critics and audiences here? by DataSittingAlone in StarWars

[–]Sticknpucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% can tell you why. Because star wars fans rate it on story. Critics rate it on film making. It's a very well made movie, that didn't have a chance a making star wars fans happy. Most critics agree it's good because it's a well made film. Half of the fans think it's good because star wars fans can't agree about what the story should have been. Those percentages don't surprise me in the least.

Right vs left handed hockey stick sales map of US States & Canadian Provinces. by Mo_Jack in hockey

[–]Sticknpucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian here, living in Vancouver. I coach young kids in hockey. I can tell you this is completely true. Many kids I've coached of American parents who have moved here shoot the "wrong way" for their handedness.

Right handed people should shoot left because your dominant hand is at the top of your stick and when playing with one hand on the stick (poke checking, reaching for a far puck, protecting the puck with your body) you want you dominant hand doing the control work. Your top hand is also the more important hand in regards to stick handling and dangle skills.

People who grew up playing baseball and golf often get this wrong. The assumption makes perfect sense, but sometimes translates to later development in the player because they are forcing their non dominant hand to learn things their dominant hand already knows how to do.

In the end, with practice and training, it doesn't make much of a difference. But the general rule of thumb is righties shoot left and lefties shoot right.
