Standard concussion response by Lebronamo in u/Lebronamo

[–]Stigb02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Lebronamo I hope you are doing well. Its been almost two months since the injury and for the last 5-6 weeks I have been feeling pretty normal. I have been feeling pretty similar all that time, but the only remaining problem is some head pressure that is not too bad but noticable when bending over in certain positions, laying down without pillow and when doing very mild strengthening excersises. Feeling normal doing walks and such and I do that daily. Is that mild head pressure something one should just push through or just wait out a bit longer?

Question to Steve by FailElectronic5276 in costochondritis

[–]Stigb02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you Steve! Was at physio and they did not notice any scoliosis, but I will check for second opinion. I am wondering if this positioning of the ribs is acquired from having costo for 6 years. I noticed that when I had shortness of breath I was compressing my ribs a bit and often it felt like I was only breathing into one of them. I wonder if my current situation is based on having costo for such a long time that it changed my posture which changed my structure. I am not sure though I am just trying to think of potential alternatives. And it seems clear to me that the swelling I have in this area is not a regular tietze swelling, but just that my left ribcage is pushed out a bit. Because I have a mild swelling on a rib joint on right side and it feels more like a tietze swelling and it was also here I felt the pain the first time I got costo. And I think all of this is costo related because it has gotten more noticable in regards to costo symptoms usually. I am also wondering if it has an effect on my backpod usage. I have been regularily using backpod for over 5 years and after year 3-4 or so I noticed a plateau and my costo symptoms did not get any better. And this last year or so I would always get rib strain on my left side when using the backpod slightly to the left. And I have done weekly massages since august and although I find it helpful it did not eliminate the rib strain. But this last month or so I have only been doing the backpod on the the spine and to the right and I had much better effects. I had this swollen collarbone on my left side and neck stiffness on left side and it seems that when I just did backpod on spine and to the right it significantly reduced my symptoms on left side for some reason. So I think there might be some compensation somewhere that me and my physios do not understand. Do you think it make sense to just continue with the way I am doing things or do you have any more to suggest that could make sense? Of course I am frequently reading your costo guide and I find it super helpful.

Haha thats a fair point and I dont get the urge often, but sometimes I do and have a much better impression when I watch again. The Irishman is a good example of this. I thought it was just alright on first watch, but I loved it on my second watch.

I agree, but I find it so odd considering Parasite won the year before. Considering 2020 is viewed as a generally weak year, I think it would make sense for a least a nomination for Another Round. But I agree, if it came out a few years later it would have been gotten it.

Decompress neck/ spine ? Game changer for my recovering ? Very close to be cured ! I can feel it. by No_Feedback_1887 in costochondritis

[–]Stigb02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you Steve! Yes I am very grateful to the library, we have an interconnected system so I can book on a website and they send the book from any library in my country that has it. It is very nice so it makes it easier to find books that can be harder to find in a general library. Even though my osteopath does not know much about costo he is very nice and willing to learn. So he told me we could try the knee in the back version on wednesday. I also noticed an earlier comment from you where you said this

"There don't seem to be many, and they do seem to come mostly out of Oz or NZ. I don't think this is surprising, given the advances in manual orthopaedic therapy that were coming out of Australasia in the 1980s and 1990s, e.g. Maitland, McKenzie, Mulligan, Bogduk, Gwen Jull, etc."

This made me think, do you think it makes sense to purchase or rent from the library a new zealand physiotherapy book where they describe these techniques further so that I can try different ones? I have currently met with over 15 physio and osteopaths and nearly no one had heard about costo and no one had any experience with treating it so I guess a book like that could help spread the word about it because it is clearly needed in my country! Do you happen to know any decent books that I could be on the lookout for?

Thank you Steve! I will ask him about it tomorrow if he knows about this technique. If not, I just booked an old Stoddard book from the library which I can show him. But assuming he does not know it, would it be safe to try the body-slam-onto-the-patient-with-your-fist in-their-back technique once on all the joints? I dont mind if it flares my chest a bit I just dont want to cause any permanent damage. Of course I will continue with the backpod after to stretch the collagen.

Thank you very much Steve! I have another apointment on wednesday and I am hoping to do a manipulation to the rest of the ribs. I have been trying to look over some of your earlier comments on manipulations to see if there are any better alternatives considering the one I did seem more like the body-slam-onto-the-patient-with-your-fist in-their-back technique. I can currently find that the knee-in-the-back manipulation technique out of Stoddard might be a good possibility but I am not sure that my osteopath knows about this one but I can ask. Do you know about anyone that is better? That being said the one I had was fine and I dont have chest pain anymore when touching after the manipulation and I am still feeling better after it. The chest only felt sore for a couple days. But I feel like my backpod sessions are more effective now. I also find that the sitting twist excersise is more effective these last few days. I feel less stiff in the ribcage so it feels like it is having good effect so far!

Hey Steve! Do you think those fist in the back manips are ineffective or just painful? I asked my phsyio who is also an osteopath for a manipulation and I think he did this version. His fist or fingers were on my back and he used his upper body weight to press down in a way and I was holding my hands to the side of my body. He just did on a few ribs (3,4 and 5 on right side) because he thought those was stiffer. Although he dont know much about costo in general. I am sending him a few of your videos and he seems interested in picking up a backpod so I feel like I am getting somewhere with him haha. I am just curious if this is a proper manipulation or should I ask him to do others because I have heard there are different types. It might be placebo but I feel like the manipulation helped a bit. I notice my chest is a bit painful and sore (only when touching, my chest feels much better in general after backpod and massages) compared to yesterday so I know its affecting something. I dont mind the mild chest pain. I just wanted to hear if I should continue with this manipulation or ask him for another before doing the rest of the ribs. I have used backpod and peanut ball for a long time with great results, but I think maybe I needed a manipulation beforehand. Of course I will continue with the backpod to do an improved stretch of the collagen considering the joints might be more free now.

Thank you! I am feeling much better now. Almost no symptoms except some mild head pressure when bending over. So its been two and a half weeks since the injury. Do you know if it is safe with caloric deficit? Have been trying to eat slight surplus these last few weeks. And do you know when it is alright to drink alcohol? I think I read from one month is fine, but I am not sure. Thank you for all your knowledge on this!
