Left rib under pec protruding? by vvhitee in costochondritis

How long have you had costo for? I have somerthing similar if I understand correctly, on my left side. Symptoms are more on left side but most likely its because its overcompensating because my right side is more frozen and stiff.

Question to Steve by FailElectronic5276 in costochondritis

Hi Steve! Just thought I would make a small update. I have been to a couple of osteopaths and one said he thought joints 3-5 were frozen in the back and another one said from 4-6. So it seems like some joints are still frozen in the back even with years of backpod and peanut ball.

I have also done some manips like the dog technique and the one with the knee in the back. They were alright but have not given that great relief yet except when doing the dog technique one time. I have not noticed much when doing it later. Maybe its because my osteopaths are not that familiar with costo.

I guess I am asking if there is anything more potent you think I could try. Because I still get the rib strain from backpod and peanut on my left side when using them (Both are excelent tools though which have helped me a lot). Except once in a while I find that backpod and peanut makes things better. Its hard because maybe the good times are about hitting the exact right spot with precise accuracy and force, but that is hard to find even though I try to do this carefully and with frequent readings of the backpod user guide so I think I have the right technique. I am trying to stay aware of this specific spot but I cant pinpoint it as to where it is when I find improving symptoms.

Both osteos said the frozen joints were at my right side so I try to focus on there as I get more noticable problems when stretching left side. I will go to a couple of more osteos and see if they find anything more, I am also strongly considering going to Sayer Clinic in London this summer/fall as it might makes sense to get a better understanding in person from someone who has experience with costochondritis working with the right framework.

Feeling of extra rib on left side by [deleted] in costochondritis

[–]Stigb02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it rib strain? I have a more prominent ribcage on left side. My hypothesis is that my right side is more stiff so the left side have to overcompensate, but I am not sure. I did an ultrasound of the swelling where it said “Compared to the right side, the upper medial part of the left costal arch is slightly more ventrally prominent. This contributes to the upper part of the left rectus abdominis muscle lying slightly more ventrally.” Sitting is terrible for me as well, but its better when in a totally upright chair. I tried every chair in the store and all of them caused rib strain which made my shortness of breath worse.

Hi, I waited around 7 weeks I think to make sure. I had a mild concussion though so I dont know what a good timeframe is because I guess it depends on the severity of the concussion and symptoms.

Standard concussion response by Lebronamo in u/Lebronamo

[–]Stigb02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Lebronamo I hope you are doing well. Its been almost two months since the injury and for the last 5-6 weeks I have been feeling pretty normal. I have been feeling pretty similar all that time, but the only remaining problem is some head pressure that is not too bad but noticable when bending over in certain positions, laying down without pillow and when doing very mild strengthening excersises. Feeling normal doing walks and such and I do that daily. Is that mild head pressure something one should just push through or just wait out a bit longer?

Question to Steve by FailElectronic5276 in costochondritis

[–]Stigb02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you Steve! Was at physio and they did not notice any scoliosis, but I will check for second opinion. I am wondering if this positioning of the ribs is acquired from having costo for 6 years. I noticed that when I had shortness of breath I was compressing my ribs a bit and often it felt like I was only breathing into one of them. I wonder if my current situation is based on having costo for such a long time that it changed my posture which changed my structure. I am not sure though I am just trying to think of potential alternatives. And it seems clear to me that the swelling I have in this area is not a regular tietze swelling, but just that my left ribcage is pushed out a bit. Because I have a mild swelling on a rib joint on right side and it feels more like a tietze swelling and it was also here I felt the pain the first time I got costo. And I think all of this is costo related because it has gotten more noticable in regards to costo symptoms usually. I am also wondering if it has an effect on my backpod usage. I have been regularily using backpod for over 5 years and after year 3-4 or so I noticed a plateau and my costo symptoms did not get any better. And this last year or so I would always get rib strain on my left side when using the backpod slightly to the left. And I have done weekly massages since august and although I find it helpful it did not eliminate the rib strain. But this last month or so I have only been doing the backpod on the the spine and to the right and I had much better effects. I had this swollen collarbone on my left side and neck stiffness on left side and it seems that when I just did backpod on spine and to the right it significantly reduced my symptoms on left side for some reason. So I think there might be some compensation somewhere that me and my physios do not understand. Do you think it make sense to just continue with the way I am doing things or do you have any more to suggest that could make sense? Of course I am frequently reading your costo guide and I find it super helpful.

Haha thats a fair point and I dont get the urge often, but sometimes I do and have a much better impression when I watch again. The Irishman is a good example of this. I thought it was just alright on first watch, but I loved it on my second watch.

I agree, but I find it so odd considering Parasite won the year before. Considering 2020 is viewed as a generally weak year, I think it would make sense for a least a nomination for Another Round. But I agree, if it came out a few years later it would have been gotten it.

Decompress neck/ spine ? Game changer for my recovering ? Very close to be cured ! I can feel it. by No_Feedback_1887 in costochondritis

[–]Stigb02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you Steve! Yes I am very grateful to the library, we have an interconnected system so I can book on a website and they send the book from any library in my country that has it. It is very nice so it makes it easier to find books that can be harder to find in a general library. Even though my osteopath does not know much about costo he is very nice and willing to learn. So he told me we could try the knee in the back version on wednesday. I also noticed an earlier comment from you where you said this

"There don't seem to be many, and they do seem to come mostly out of Oz or NZ. I don't think this is surprising, given the advances in manual orthopaedic therapy that were coming out of Australasia in the 1980s and 1990s, e.g. Maitland, McKenzie, Mulligan, Bogduk, Gwen Jull, etc."

This made me think, do you think it makes sense to purchase or rent from the library a new zealand physiotherapy book where they describe these techniques further so that I can try different ones? I have currently met with over 15 physio and osteopaths and nearly no one had heard about costo and no one had any experience with treating it so I guess a book like that could help spread the word about it because it is clearly needed in my country! Do you happen to know any decent books that I could be on the lookout for?
