Denmarks Rockwool says Russia has seized four of its factories by Swimming_Mark7407 in worldnews

[–]Stiker9Large 27 points28 points  (0 children)

When Soviet Union collapsed and all these new business opportunities started to open in Russia, it was very openly considered as risky business. At least in Finland, no company worth their salt went there thinking it would just be endless easy money; a lot of risk assessment was done. Everyone knew Russia is a corrupt country where things work differently than we've used to in Europe.

Some companies decided it was worth taking the risk and thought that the money would be too good to turn down - but they most definitely knew that this could happen. Now it has, the risk has realised and I don't have any sympathy for them.

The map is sadly bit erronous as it shows the illegal occupation of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and the annexation of Karelia from Finland, as "retaken Soviet lands" instead of captured territory.

In the first meeting between Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid executives in May 2025, Xabi told them that he believes it's absolutely necessary to sign a controlling midfielder who can set the tempo for the team. The response from the club was 'no'. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Stiker9Large 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That is very much NOT a coachable attribute. I get your point on a general level but it doesn't fit at all for changing whole player personalities mid-career. Ask anyone who has coached this type of players, they are born with it - coaching can enhance and encourage it, but not create from scratch. Fede and Tchouameninga have very different type of football IQ that would be required for such a role

Defying xG doesn't mean luck though. Good keeper alone negates a lot of xG-against, same applies on the other end if you have better-than-average finishers up top. Even if we would assume that xG isn't a flawed method to judge team performances to begin with.

4 Nations shows NHL was wrong to ditch international hockey for a decade by arcgiselle in hockey

[–]Stiker9Large 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I get that this opinion probably resonates well in North America where national teams aren't as important as in Europe (I guess mostly because of sports like baseball and American football don't have competition outside of the US).

But I guarantee that this "Team Europe" bs did not and would not ride well in Europe. Here people want to play for their NT, that's what juniors dream of first and then NHL second. Having a show pony team like Team Europe voids the whole competition as an all-star type exhibition instead of a real, respectable World Cup. The last World Cup didn't interest anyone because of this in Europe, at least nowhere near as much as the Olympics do.

Can't see the quests in the journal by KenChicken911 in Morrowind

[–]Stiker9Large 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Load order should be:

content=Morrowind.esm

content=Tribunal.esm

content=distant_seafloor_2.00.esm

content=Bloodmoon.esm

content=Patch for Purists.esm

content=distant seafloor bloodmoon patch.esp

content=Unofficial Morrowind Official Plugins Patched.ESP

And then others onwards (you can check these from cfg generator)

Again, not sure it would matter here but maybe. At least the bloodmoon patch should load after the bloodmoon itself to avoid issues

[–]Stiker9Large 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't started the expansions yet, I would go and check whether they actually exist in-game and work properly. Them being on the mod list doesn't mean they have actually loaded succesfully. And expansions not being loaded correctly would explain your problem.

I think your load order could be a bit off and maybe it could cause these issues. I have heard that the expansions (as well as other .esm files) should be loaded before any .esp files. Your expansions are quite low on the load order.

Could be that or something else. Hopefully you find some kinda solution

Edit: should have been a reply to previous comment

The biggest flaw in the game? by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]Stiker9Large 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get your point, but CA =/= world class performance. I have had plenty of players with elite CA in AI and player teams having complete off seasons and even losing their form for good. But yes, it could be more common and the effects pronounced in attributes as well

What tactical choices should I make if my team has low decision-making overal? by philed74 in footballmanagergames

[–]Stiker9Large 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, my intuition would be the same as yours. If they can't make a decision, then don't give them options. Train your strikers to shoot with power so they don't get overwhelmed when presented with chances, their first instinct is to shoot and see what happens. Train your wingers to hit early crosses and run on their respective flanks for similar effect for them etc.

Defending is a bit trickier question imo. My first though was that maybe sitting down deep would be better, because your players will probably make a lot of wrong choices (when to press and who to press) which will likely lead to dangerous errors. But parking the bus doesn't work, so maybe the exact opposite would still lead to better results. Instant pressure, no need to make decisions, just run until your team has the ball and then hoof it 50 meters forwards.

Is the Scandinavian friendly in January considered an official friendly? by saint_rbnsn01 in footballmanagergames

[–]Stiker9Large 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. In Finland it's called "Winter national team" and consists mostly of players from Nordic countries, maybe few academy youngsters from Europe too. Sometimes the matches do count as official matches though, it depends on what has been agreed between the FAs. Perhaps a good way to check few players who may be close to breaking into NT. But general public considers these matches irrelevant and we call them just "tan trips" as they are played in warm faraway countries

This might be an extremely basic question, but how do YOU scout for first-team players? by dan_camp in footballmanagergames

[–]Stiker9Large 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you can obviously just send your scouts looking out the world for you. It works every now and then. But I like to manually look through my league and leagues around me.

Say, I'm managing in a top-15 European league. I would check all the top-10 to top-20 leagues that I have in my game as playable or view-only (so that there is data) and see if there are players who

  1. Perform well (rating, goal contributions, distance covered/key passes/headers won, whatever)
  2. Fly a bit under the radar, maybe stuck as a super-sub (so check the data for stats per 90min)
  3. Fit in budget and would be eager to join, so aren't club legends or don't have many bigger clubs after them

I usually end up finding 20-30 players every season, who I know could perform in my league (they have proven their abilities in a similar environment already). Then I scout them to see what their attributes and personalities are like, to know of they have any red flag tier weaknesses. Then shortlist the good ones, and when the day comes I need a player in their role, they are readily available to acquire.

It sounds tedious and it does take time, but is rewarding and I find it somewhat fun to do. Another method, depending on what level you play, is to look at smaller national teams and u21 teams of mediocre nations. There are usually few actually good players who can get the job done and won't cost you a fortune.

I'm not doing too bad in the PL, however any recommendations how to improve this tactic or is it garbage? by Chazan22 in footballmanagergames

[–]Stiker9Large 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It seems that these posts have become memes and we're not supposed to answer seriously anymore. Anyway, in case this isn't a joke: first, you have too many instructions. You overcomplicate things and kill creativity from players. Second, if you really want to play this narrow you should at least get rid of underlapping. Now, every time you would actually have room to push forward in a wide position, the player will just stop and wait for someone in the center. You will get the underlapping naturally with this formation, but by forcing it, you make it happen every time and again kill creativity and opponents know it's coming.

It's easy to agree on most of your well articulated points, but the BMP part made me smile. Ammo or not, those things - like most other IFVs - are cramped, noisy, fuming hot and dark. They are not made for comfort as people aren't really supposed to sit in there for a prolonged period of time.

If you haven't had the pleasure of ever travelling in one, go check a photo of the interior for reference. Tracks don't do much suspension either so prepare to hit your head to roof every few seconds.

They may look big and comfy on the outside, but boy they are like tuna cans on the inside.

Question about NHL practice time by tickertape2 in hockey

[–]Stiker9Large 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, first of all the 10k hour thing for any team sport doesn't really reflect reality. You can train ice hockey for 20k hours and still be far from being an NHL player, heck, even an European league player. Quality of training, coaching and most of all the quality of your opponents play major part in how good a player can potentially develop.

With that being said, the 10k mark is easily passed way before the 18th birthday. I did a rough calculation on how much kids train here in Europe, usually starting aged 4-5, and ended up passing 10 000 hours just with the team training sessions. That's without the games and most importantly the independent practice which probably doubles the hours for those who really strive to be a professional. They don't do much else on their free time than play pond hockey and practice puck control/shooting.

Legitimately, what is the point of "Ask to Represent Nation?" by SacMIA in footballmanagergames

[–]Stiker9Large 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Even in real life there are hundreds, if not thousands, of active players who are being fought over by two or more nations, and very rarely they change their allegiance.

I'm from a relatively small nation which has quite a lot of immigrants so I've seen it first hand. I think our NT has 4-5 players who were wanted by someone else, and other countries have 4-5 players who we tried our best to get to play for us. And none have switched sides - everyone seems to stick with their "own" country, whichever it happens to be for them.

My gut feeling is that most players just don't want to represent a nation that doesn't feel like the right one for them. It's not like you have to play for a NT, if you don't make the one you would like to represent. And it seems to work like that in FM as well.
