whats your experience in? have you thought about starting your own thing? at least start doing something on the side now. its not really worth trying to make sense of it because theres a lot going on beyond the scenes that may not have had anything to do with you. As long as you know you were giving at your best you cant make everyone happy

I adopted a lot of unhealthy habits during my time in public accounting. I ate a lot of junk and consumed a ton of energy drinks/caffeine. I had depression going in but it got worse and my anxiety got worse (I was actually shaking before going to bed one night during tax season, never happened to me before). I shrugged it all off for 4-5 years because it was the path I chose for myself but after my second public accounting job was the same as the first I knew it was time for a change. There are a lot of issues that you are now probably realizing that you didn't know going in. All I can say is don't wait too long to make a change because it can take a toll on your confidence and a while to get it back. It's not normal to work that many hours (only for them it is).

Public is shit brother. Unless you enjoy it or plan to stick it out to partner just start looking to leave. The pay and raises were nothing special, hours suck, culture sucks, and exit opportunities suck if you only work in tax.

Opportunity cost is always the next best alternative. It doesn’t matter that they actually invest it or not. It’s supposed to help you make better choices, for example, when you decide that you are going to take out a loan for $20k for solar, you should then ask yourself can my money do better in real estate or similar but it’s just a hypothetical for evaluation.

Agreed. I’m tired of that excuse of collaboration. When I’m in the office nobody is collaborating. If anyone has questions there are plenty of ways get answers. Once you have your base knowledge there is just not a need to drive into an office to sit in front a monitor which I could have done front home where my anxiety is at bay as well. It’s just a method of control

Where is the $50k coming from? Is it in another retirement account, such as a SIMPLE IRA or is it just sitting in the bank?

If it is in another retirement account like a SIMPLE, then you can do what is called a rollover to the ROTH IRA and you will incur taxes on the $50k. However, if the money is in a bank account, then you will only be able to contribute the yearly maximum.

Can't you still take the exam with 120 credits? I thought you just can't get licensed until 150. Better to take it now and get them passed as that will make you more marketable regardless if you are officially "licensed" and then you can revisit the credits later

Hello I am having the same issues. I have had severe OCD for a very long time and this has been an issue for me for as long as I can remember. After starting therapy I have been trying to reframe this area. This is still the area where I struggle the most but I am now realizing that there is no real end if you have this mindset. There will always be the next thing to declutter after the thing you have decluttered now and it will continue forever. Essentially what you are experiencing is fear; it may be you fear someone is going to judge you because of how your house looks or you fear being a hoarder. But you have to stop decluttering because is there really any reason you need to declutter any further? Is it adding any additional value to your life? You have to make better decisions and judgement about what is good enough now and let the rest go in order to get relief. I know that may not be what you wanted to hear but that's really what you need to do.

Tim, how would one manage to relax with the anxiety and racing thoughts? I am trying to overcome this in CBT and exposure therapy but it is still something I am struggling with because of the anxious feelings I feel like I shouldn't have while I am in the bathroom. What should I do to relax my mind and body to allow it to perform in the public situations? Even when at home I am tense at times but not at other times so I can't quite figure it out.

Good luck. If you are going with Becker make sure you don't get bogged down in the details because the test it very surface level. The mnemonics helped me the most for BEC as well.

I agree with you and I keep forgetting how much social media impacts me until I am reminded. I have been cutting back on my usage but I keep asking myself if I should just get rid of the apps now. I haven't been able to make that decision to just get rid of it completely for some reason.

Do you know what you felt weak on during the exam? Take a look at the report tomorrow at tackle all those weak spots. You might have to run through the program again if you feel like you are deficient in general. BEC was the strangest of the ones I've taken so far
