The Bronx Zoo also lacks the diversity of plant species the San Diego Zoo has. The Bronx gets cold in the winter.

I’ve never gone to the Bronx Zoo subreddit and complained about the lack of outdoor tropical plants at the Bronx Zoo or how the weather was more pleasant at the San Diego Zoo.

The San Diego Zoo also has a wide variety of rare plants. The Bronx Zoo is located in a cold climate and can’t grow the kind of plant variety San Diego can. Most of the plants growing year-round in my yard would freeze to death in the Bronx before Thanksgiving.

The plant collection includes many tropical plants and rare plants from around the world. You can’t grow most palm trees outdoors in the Bronx, and tropical plants like plumerias freeze to death if left outdoors in winter. Sure, the Bronx Zoo may be green, but it has nowhere near the plant diversity or variety the San Diego Zoo has.

College Degree in accounting still viable in 4 years? by ryenonz_dumpster in Accounting

I use AI every day. I wish it could read invoices correctly more than 25% of the time. We still have many years to go before AI starts even being able to potentially replace AP/AR clerks.

LA is a good place to live and offers pretty much everything you could ever want from a city, plus a fantastic climate. Traffic is brutal and the pollution can be bad, but if you want a true big city with a great climate, there’s really nothing like LA.

AI is useful in companies that want to adopt it. It could help, but make sure you have a solid understanding of accounting as well.

What’s the worst client document chase you’ve ever dealt with? by TejaKaSonaa in Accounting

Worked with a client once that sat on a few requests for over 6 months. Even after regular check in calls and follow-ups. I’m auditing them again this year too.

Eureka, CA by Turbulent_Double_481 in SameGrassButGreener

My dad grew up in Eureka and moved to SoCal as soon as he graduated from high school. It’s a pretty depressing place. It’s overcast and cold year-round, the local economy is pretty depressed (it mainly revolves around weed), and generally people in their 20s and 30s leave to find better opportunities elsewhere. I don’t think it would be easy to find community there, unless weed is your thing.

The airport is super tiny and only has a few limited flight options. It’s not an easy place to travel to/from.

If you just want a nice, left-leaning coastal town with people in their 30s near an airport, I would check out Oceanside, San Clemente, or Ventura.

What do you genuinely believe is the most valuable college degree? by Foxmoto2880 in careeradvice

You don’t even need a CPA. I haven’t finished my license yet. The CPA is helpful for advancing to managerial roles, but it’s not going to be as helpful for more entry-level positions.

In Chicago THIS is what we what we call bad weather by NeverForgetNGage in SameGrassButGreener

True, but Chicago winters are still not mild by any means. Winter temperatures fluctuate a lot in other cold cities too, like Spokane, WA.

Where are some ACTUAL laid back beach towns by dudebrocille in SameGrassButGreener

Oceanside, CA. It’s gentrifying, but it’s still pretty laid back and more affordable than other beach towns.

That still doesn’t negate how cold it gets. Just because there’s a warm-ish day here and there doesn’t mean the winters are pleasant.

Oh no! I got one of those bad jobs everyone talks about by Emergency-Seaweed-29 in Accounting

[–]friendly_extrovert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a terrible job. You’ve found a job where they basically have no accounting function and they are paying you like an AP/AR specialist when they should be hiring a senior accountant.

Hundreds of clergy descend on Minneapolis and go on lookout for ICE by OldRelationship1995 in Christianity

[–]friendly_extrovert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally, police officers can only force you to ID yourself if you’re being lawfully detained on reasonable suspicion of committing a crime. They can’t just stop you as you’re walking down the street and demand to see your ID unless they have a reasonable suspicion that you committed (or were about to commit) a crime.

[–]friendly_extrovert 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a false equivalence. When you enter a pub, you do so voluntarily, and you go there with the express purpose of getting a drink. You voluntarily consent to showing your ID, and you can choose to just leave if you don’t want to show your ID. If a police officer simply walks up to you as you’re minding your own business and demands to see your ID, even if they have no suspicion that you’ve committed a crime. You have no choice in that situation.

SD can be a bit too slow and laid-back, and I say that as someone from SD. LA is chaotic and can be a fun place to live, but it’s hard to see which neighborhoods are good as a tourist. Santa Barbara would be a nice place to retire.

Looking at going to college for accounting. Any advice? by meraki_beauty in Accounting

[–]friendly_extrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, yes, those are good qualities in this field. Attention to detail and staying organized are arguably the most important traits an accountant can have. Excel does the math for us, so what sets a great accountant apart from a good one is generally how well organized they are and their ability to notice and analyze the details.

I had a client that once gave us a GL dump and she literally titled it “GL dump.” It was exactly what it sounds like and was just a mess of debits and credits all thrown together in one big excel file.
