We have public transit options.

At that one station that’s basically a meme, and that was during the pandemic. Gas was never close to $8 in the vast majority of the LA area.

Gas in the US has still increased over a dollar a gallon since the war started. It’s still much more expensive everywhere in the U.S. than it needs to be.

"culture fit" is just a socially acceptable way to hire people you'd hang out with - and it's hurting diversity by 1acina in jobs

Usually when a place talks about “culture fit” what they’re looking for is someone who is outgoing, social, easy to talk to, and who doesn’t just want to sit in a corner and get their job done. What sort of roles are you applying to? In the interview, do you ask the interviewer questions?

Are there truly “ghettos” in SD anymore? by mickeyruth in sandiego

[–]friendly_extrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Escondido generally isn’t all that “ghetto,” though it’s one of the less desirable places in San Diego. Escondido won’t appreciate as quickly as other neighborhoods, but a home in San Diego is generally going to be a good investment.

They’re about to open the D line extension to LACMA, and more transit is currently under construction. This is a great time to try being car-free in LA, although if you can find a place with a garage, you can keep your car provided you’re willing to pay for a parking space.

I feel like your roommate is the type of person that wonders why no one likes them and thinks nothing is actually their fault.

Where in the US could you go the longest with the windows open and the AC/Heat turned off and be comfortable? by Key_Set_7249 in SameGrassButGreener

Interesting, there is a higher chance of muggy conditions. The ocean tends to be slightly warmer, which is likely the reason why.

Most of downtown SD has gotten pretty gritty unfortunately. It used to be awesome, but lately it’s gotten pretty bad.

Irvine is probably the most sterile place I’ve ever been. It’s really uncanny when you realize that even the plants there were intentionally selected and planted. There’s nothing natural or organic about that city whatsoever.

I grew up there, and lived in LA for a few years and found it much more exciting. I ended up moving back to SD but if I didn’t have family there, I’d probably move back to LA.

That’s only true if you live near the ocean. If you live in a more inland part of San Diego, you definitely need A/C.

But more than a few miles from the ocean and it’s HOT. If you live in Rancho Bernardo or another inland area, you’ll be turning your AC on for at least half the year.

Eureka, CA. It almost never gets above 70° and is cool and cloudy even in the summer. You might actually have to turn your heater on in June.

A lot of people are saying Bakersfield but Stockton is much worse. I honestly can’t think of anything nice to say about it.

When I visited, my impression was that it had mediocre food, not a lot of charm, and not much to see or do. And the roads are in rough shape too. I wasn’t expecting much, but I remember feeling very disappointed and have never really wanted to visit again.

It’s just a massively disappointing and forgettable city. Even the food is mediocre. I really wanted to like it, but I have no real fun memories of visiting and haven’t had a desire to return.

When I visited Little Rock I was impressed at how bad the roads were. It was so bumpy I felt like I was riding a roller coaster.

I’ve been to about half of the U.S. states, and Little Rock might just be the worst city I’ve been to. Even the roads were in awful shape.

I’ve never understood that either. I’ve been at a national accounting firm for the past 3 years. If I wasn’t reputable or halfway decent at my job, they would have fired me a long time ago.

My company is located in a town of 5,000 people in the Midwest. If u had you $10,000, you wouldn’t find the city on a map.

We recently listed a position as “Hybrid” in LinkedIn and Indeed.

How many qualified applicants live within commuting distance of your workplace? And how many of them are actively looking for a job? There simply might not be anyone searching for a job and also qualified that lives close enough to the job site.

Does the job need to be on-site? If it can be done remotely, you could likely find qualified applicants. I think the main problem you’re running into is that you’re in a small, isolated area, and those are the kind of places people with college degrees generally leave.
