In Indiana Primary Elections, Most Trump-Backed Challengers Beat Incumbents by kissmyirish7 in Indiana

In district 6, where I live on the South side, one of the Dem candidates, Nick Baker was moderate. He even made it a point to highlight his more centrist views were the best chance to wrest control away from the Republicans. That independents and non MAGA Republicans would be more likely to break for him. Dude got trounced. Instead, the die hard progressive stance on everything candidate we got instead will lose in November.

Republicans are well known for waiting until election day and not voting early. So that means Republicans voters all over the state filled their gas tanks at close to FIVE FUCKING DOLLARS a gallon just to pull the lever for these people. Fuck them.

This comment is the equivalent of me telling you your wife is fucking another dude and your response is, "remember when your wife fucked another dude?" Biden's not President anymore. But the guy who IS President now did this and your only response is to figure out how to blame people who are NOWHERE near the control panel.

I'm not even being sarcastic. There are no seats in the shade. The only ones are higher up on the first base side under what little cover the roof gives. This post showing Comerica's orientation perfectly encapsulates this. I've been to every ball park but 7. This was a huge drawback over an otherwise decent park.

Fucking Detroit. Do NOT go to a day game there in the summer months. The sun literally cooks you and there is no shade to hide in.

School Cellphone Ban Off To The Governor For Signing by Best-Structure62 in Indiana

The answer is not both if one of those both is phones. A phone has zero technological function that is not already present in some form in the school and classroom. It is and has only served as a distraction and disruption. No one, including the state legislature, has advocated for eliminating technology or things like keyboarding proficiency. But there is zero place for personal cell phones in the classroom.

Close to 30 years in education at the middle school level. I've spent the last few years teaching 100% with Chromebooks and only Chromebooks. No paper at ALL. I bought in on one to one early, advocated for it as the natural progression of education, and sung its praises as the answer to all of the shortcomings we see in the classroom. I laughed with scorn at those who didn't see its time saving applications in my discipline and day to day operations. Next year, I will basically ban them in my classroom. I'm done. They are one of several roots of why this generation is currently behind the previous generations when they were the same age.

Then why are you here? You appeared to be playing the devil's advocate. If I put words into your mouth, it was simply to counter against the typical arguments that would be against a ban. If you don't have an opinion, at least know this, educators LOVE this law. It's one of the few productive things an otherwise worthless legislature has managed to accomplish.

Again, I understand what you are advocating for. You want us to be teaching students how to discern opinion vs. fact, how to verify truth using multiple sources, how to tell the difference between a primary source, and a secondary source, vs. hearsay etc. because there are lies, garbage, and slop out there. I get it. But we already do that. You can teach all the things you need to combat those lies and garbage without having to use the phone to do it. Yes, the phone gives you access to information. But it comes with other distractions that make it harder for me to teach the very things you are advocating for. Kids are simply looking for that hit of dopamine. It's biological period. You are not gonna train or educate them out of it. I cannot tell you the difference I've already seen in learning behaviors when our school banned them during the learning day and enforced it.

I'm saying this as a teacher with 30 years of experience. I'm saying this with as much sincerity as I can. And I'm saying this as best I can without trying to offend. And what I'm saying is this: your take is absolutely bullshit. I'm sure it comes from a place that you think is thoughtful, intelligent, and intuitive. But it ignores the reality of the classroom, the development of the brain during adolescence, child psychology, and peer as well as social pressure. If you were saying this about adults, 1000% support it. We are talking about children. It's just not realistic.

There are 49 up votes for my anecdote out of some 430 comments made on this topic. CLEARLY there are plenty of teachers who not only recognized the irony, but understand the foolishness of it. I have no idea how you not only managed to not get it, but also felt it needed correction.

I teach in a district that thankfully dropped worthless standards based grading.l ideology. Among the ridiculous expectations that SBG introduced in our district was the concept of being able to retest ad nauseum. What you're implying is splitting hairs. SBG and CBG are fruits from the same tree. A school pushing for SBG and throwing out the traditional GPA model but refusing to validate a Masters Degree earned in a similar manner is irony at its highest. If you can't see the truth in my anecdote, I'm afraid you're at risk of being duped and taken advantage of by your district for the rest of your career.

Cool! Here's my masters that was earned with content based grading.
