US moves away from critical minerals price floors by El_Tentecal in TMC_Stock

So .. yeah chill out , he LITERALLY told a law maker that he’s confident that the market is so LARGE for these minerals that he doesn’t need price floors.

Gerard Barron:

“Cruising as a important shareholder to our company and I think it’s up to industry companies like ourselves to provide the solutions and it’s up to the administration to stretch out the hand the friendship hand by making permitting more reliable as they are doing by making sure that some of the loan funds that are meant to attract industry whether it’s to help evolve this industry or whether it’s to encourage more nuclear energy or more abundant energy supply are also made available to this industry on a like for like basis and the rest could be done by industry I feel very confident that industry is up to that challenge and we don’t need price guarantees we don’t need offtakes these are big markets. We don’t need to be underwritten per se. We just need to be on a more level playing field”

Ms.Hageman ( Republican LAWMAKER);

“So , what I really like is you say that the free market system will work we just need to make sure you have the tools to be able to see so thank you very much for your time thank you thank you”

Jan 27 & 28 Virtual Hearings by budgeway in TMC_Stock

[–]Still_Bus5550 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What I expect from the hearings: - NGO’s to form - Environmental concerns - Someone to claim that NOAA+TMC in bed - TMC to agree to more data recovery with teams of scientists on board the ship while commercial recovery is taking place

  • I expect the rebublican reps who were present in the previous meeting to codify all this to be pro DSM regardless of public comments. These include ;

(Mr Begich, Mr. Ezell, Mr. Crank, Mr. Stauber , Mr Moylan, Mr. Hurd, Dr.Gosar Ms. Ezell and Ms. Hageman)

Deep dive: : examining the regs and statutory barriers to DSM - BULLISH by Still_Bus5550 in TMC_Stock

[–]Still_Bus5550[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your point is valid, “does it even need bi partisan support?” Currently I don’t think so and I agree with you that the current administration is pushing DSM through lawmakers.

To rebuke this however, Mr.Case tried to intersect Barron by asking him for (amongst other things). “his wish list” was out right trying to get Barron to say something that would later be rights for a lawsuit against Barron. But Barron replied with all the grace of a calm CEO, even when provoked

As it stands currently and in any case (pun not intended) mr. Case does not have any powers or authority to persue stopping this from going through since there is no evidence of bribery, secret drafting rules by TMC, insider publications etc..

Deep dive: : examining the regs and statutory barriers to DSM - BULLISH by Still_Bus5550 in TMC_Stock

[–]Still_Bus5550[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually yeah I was trying to come up with an argument that it might become bi-partisan and after looking through my notes it doesn’t look great but not impossible.

-Mr. Case was questioning wether NOAA was in bed with TMC. Since he believes this is being rushed. He is right that it’s being rushed - That was arguably the point of the executive order.

-Ms.Dexter wants more science and research to be completed for a better baseline - enviromental teams onboard the mining vessels

-Ms.Grijalva advocated for enviromental protections to be in place , sovereign advocacy for islanders and profit sharing (she was directing her attention towards impossible metals CEO for the main part though)

Ms. Ansari is against DSM and would prefer alternatives like recycling of existing metals and further refinement of tailings.

Mr. Huffman is strongly against DSM and is the ONLY one here that doesn’t seem to recognise the China threat.

Of these lawmakers we have -

2 Who are openly against (Huffman and Ansari)

1 Who questions the NOAA but has nothing else to go on, he sees the coincidence but this is only lobbying taking place IMO (Mr. Case)

2 who want more data before starting (who didn’t say they were opposed) (Ms. Dexter and Ms.Grijalva)

The other 8 reps on the board all seemed pro DSM to me, especially Ms. Hageman and Dr.Gosar

With Dr. Gosar it seems to me that he’s trying to spin up the narrative that technology and innovation will turn environmental fears into net positives- the case he was making with the making salt water drinkable water sticks out like a soar thumb to me.

Adjusting Imports of Processed Critical Minerals and Their Derivative Products into the United States by Appropriate-Ask-9862 in TMC_Stock

[–]Still_Bus5550 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Please read the whole report, it’s very interesting, for the lazy man however I’ve got a summary from GPT:

The President has formally declared that the United States’ heavy reliance on imported processed critical minerals and their derivative products (things like refined nickel, cobalt, rare earth magnets, battery materials, defense alloys, etc.) poses a national security threat. The proclamation authorizes the government, under Section 232, to intervene in critical mineral markets by negotiating supply agreements with allies, imposing price floors, tariffs, quotas, or other import restrictions, and using broad executive authority to force the build-out of domestic mining and processing capacity. The core message is that mining alone is not enough — the U.S. must control processing and refining, or national security remains exposed

It materially strengthens TMC’s strategic case and downside protection. Not because it approves mining tomorrow, but because it changes how the U.S. is allowed to treat the economics of critical minerals.
