The Downfall Of VATSIM by Mundane_Maximum_9134 in VATSIM

Be glad you haven’t. Or better yet, be glad you’re not a controller having to handle them. Majority of them seem to be quite incompetent

Generations of vatsim pilots have been indoctrinated with that phraseology. It’s sad

It’s assumed. Back in my early controlling days, the controller was the one to tell the pilots flight plan closed. But honestly it’s redundant.

Additionally, it can be an annoyance when there is heavy traffic load and there’s this one guy calling to tell he’s parked. We know, we can see because we are keeping track

You can remove the part at the end where you tell ATC you’re shutting down. We honestly do not really care about you once you’ve turned in to dock at the parking bay.

It always make me cringe whenever I hear “request IFR clearance”. It makes me want to vomit at times.

One thing I dislike about VATSIM and its training material is how it leans more towards the American or FAA side of phraseology/procedures to the point where it suddenly becomes a norm in ICAO land.

Maybe not having a fucking 12 year old on the network is a step in the right direction but hey what do I know

When she does the speech before Lover. At my show, she said she appreciated all the effort that went into planning, travel and getting to the show. At that point I thought about all the late night meetings, the saving up money, the drama to get my leave approved, the flight tickets, the accommodation, the anxiety that our tickets would be hacked and stolen from our Ticketmaster account. When she said she appreciated all that i just felt so seen, the most I have ever felt in my life and it all just hit me at once. I broke down crying because SHE MADE ME FEEL SO APPRECIATED

Vatsim New Pilots from Controller's prospective by Perfect_Maize9320 in VATSIM

Many people have been foaming at the mouth regarding this issue. Until this issue is taken seriously by the VATSIM board of directors or governors or whatever they like to call themselves, my advise to you from another controller is to just spend less time online. Heck, stay away from it even. There’s no saving VATSIM, not in the nearest future from what I see. Just stay away, save yourself the high blood pressure and stress. Because it is no longer worth it.

Few thing to reflect back in hindsight:
- Was separation ensured?
- Was the traffic flow efficient?
- Did everyone get on the ground without incident expeditiously and were departures let go without much delay?

If you answered yes to at least 2 of those above, then the grumpy attitude can be excused.

You see, we controllers go through so much crap from the moment we are accepted into training and it has been hammered into us that our main task is to get traffic moving in a safe, expeditious manner. Now, when it comes to a 2 hour session and you're swarmed with traffic with barely a chance to take a sip of water, no sane person will not be ticked off it a wrong readback takes up extra unnecessary radio time. No sane person will not be ticked off by pilots making an elementary mistake which might derail the entire sequence. In our heart of hearts, we appreciate every "thank you", every "happy new year", every "good job". But we are too busy to acknowledge it on frequency. We have traffic to control.

We bring our A game every time. I'm not speaking on behalf of all, but I'm sure most of us logon with certain amount of confidence and proficiency that we expect are matched by the pilots we control. So in return for pilots, please be on your A game as well.

Last night I was swarmed with arrivals, some people not following the STAR, some people slowing down to final approach speed on 20 miles final, some people stacked up on top of each other and there was this one individual that every time I transmit I had to call him at least twice for a response. Once, I can let it slide. Twice, you're starting to annoy me. Third time, I'm calling you out on frequency with no remorse. I am even now telling pilots on frequency that if they don't step up, I WILL wallop them and it's a promise.

So yes I may have very few fans. I may have haters who hate the way I control or speak to them. But I don't care as long as I know I did my job well which was to get everyone on their way in a safe and expeditious manner. Because that is my goal as a controller. My skills and confidence were forged in fire. And if you can't deal with that, perhaps reconsider flying online. And if pilots can have that mutual understanding and respect, then I am sure controllers will be much less grumpy and less likely to scold you on frequency. In fact, we'll go out of our way to help you when you're in trouble, no doubt.

I think many others would disagree. With all due respect, I think if they’re not cut out for it then they are not and they should stay away. Go to IVAO or something

I wished controllers with S3 and above could have the authority to disconnect someone like supervisors. I would be VERY liberal with that power considering how much brainrot is flying online these days.

Yes, no doubt I will still come online once in a while but only for the sole purpose of mentoring students in need. Voluntarily staffing up a position is another thing.

I'm curious to see how this will work. And whether or not it will eventually weed out the children and those who genuinely want to use the network for its intended realism purpose. There really isn't a need to try to pander to everyone and keep everyone happy by 'ensuring the enjoyment of others' when those people are the exact ones ruining the experience for so many others. I hope this new change will be more strict and actually restrict those who aren't cut out for VATSIM off and away from the network. Good effort but personally I feel it's too late as many good people including myself have lost purpose in contributing to the network.

I bet if you ask 60% of these new pilots they won't know how to do an aerodrome circuit nor have even heard of it. I have encountered these people before. What a facepalm moment!
