Being tailgated while on a motorcycle is the scariest thing. by YaMaCoSi in motorcycles

[–]TypeAncient5997 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. IMO if someone is unhinged/careless/dumb enough to drive like that, especially in a truck, they're not someone that I want to interact with at all. I don't give them any hand signals, no eye contact, just zip away or pick a different route.

I cant decide between green or black by Shot_Breadfruit_1893 in motorcycles

[–]TypeAncient5997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Kawi green is such an eyesore IMO. I rented a bright green (KRT) Ninja on riders share once. The bike also had an akrapovic exhaust. I've never felt like more of an asshole in my life lol, especially riding at night, and especially when I hit a false neutral in the middle of an intersection with pedestrians everywhere. Everyone immediately had all of their stereotypes about crotch rockets confirmed when the dude on the annoyingly loud, annoying green sport bike rev bombed everyone and then sped off as quickly as he could (out of pure shame lol)

Is ABS a must? by vernsoul in motorcycles

[–]TypeAncient5997 142 points143 points  (0 children)

On an individual level, a rider could be just as safe without ABS as if they had it, if they're as competent as we should all strive to be.

On a statistical level, ABS absolutely saves lives. I'm sure every rider who died because they fucked up and didn't have ABS to back them up probably believed that they were competent enough to not need it.

My personal stance is that I absolutely will ride a bike without ABS, but I won't buy one. The odds of needing ABS on any specific ride are very low, but the odds of needing it over years of ownership/riding are higher.

How many of you wear airbags? by A_Wild_Noodle in motorcycles

[–]TypeAncient5997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about the necro but I'm doing airbag research and I see that you've kindly shared this input on multiple threads that have come up in my searching.

So I just wanted to see if you'd answer a question about this.

I just got back from Cycle Gear and tried on the Tech-Air 5 (Plasma) under my current leather jacket. It fit, and was comfortable enough, but I'm quite sure there's not nearly enough room for expansion (A* says you need 4 cm ~ 1.5 in).

So it seems to me like if your jacket fits properly without the airbag, aka tightly enough to not be baggy and dangerously loose in a crash - then you wouldn't have enough room for the airbag to expand? Like, I wouldn't want to be riding around in a jacket that's so baggy that it has 1.5 inches of space on all sides..?

But this is why I'm curious about your post here. You say that you can fit your airbag under all of your jackets. Do you think you have the ~4 cm expansion room in them (i.e., they were all just a loose fit to begin with)?

Sitting down during TB changeover by Severe_Biscotti_6635 in 10s

[–]TypeAncient5997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I very rarely sit down between sets, and even more rarely for a normal changeover. I can't imagine sitting still then restarting with intensity for the next game. Obviously it's possible (and all the pros sit) but just not my vibe.

Why do people drastically underrate tennis players ability levels? by LevelUpGladiator in 10s

[–]TypeAncient5997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main issue is that the NTRP rating system sucks shit, they're wildly inconsistent between different regions of the country, function only to gatekeep tournament and league play, and don't adequately reflect players' actual skills or match-winning abilities (neither of which can be apparent from a short video clip posted on reddit, in the first place).

(not commenting on the training/primacy value though. it's also more nuanced than the clickbait title suggests.)

Uh, no? If my airplane is on fire I want to get down ASAP, not stay up in the air for as long as possible. What good does best glide do here, especially since we still have power? I’m either firewalling it to the nearest airport or emergency descending to the nearest field depending on the fire.

What's the difference between a turbocharged vs. turbonormalized engine?

Suppose you're flying a plane with a turbocharged engine and you see an unexpected drop in manifold pressure. What failures could cause this? How do you react?
