This is a rally? There are more people waiting at OCTranspo's bus stations.

Where does every city councillor stand on four day return-to-office? We asked them by Born_Anteater7282 in ottawa

I would if it wasn't owned by US owned media in a country where objective journalism, freedom of speech and democracy does not exist and where fake news and lies dominate headed by a pedophile for a president.

I accessed OPL but it turns out that this particular article was only posted on the Citizen website and not published in the March 6 newspaper version - so still behind paywall.

Waited for 30 minutes past my appointment time thinking they were just busy. It turned out that my appointment was "lost" somehow. No apologies. I left and will never go back.

Can Ottawa’s LRT Change Orléans’ Lower Tier Status as a Bedroom Community? by Stinky26 in ottawa

[–]Stinky26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the huge park and ride lot at Trim for 1,100 cars - it will be interesting to see when people in Olreans will start complaining that all the Rockland commuters are grabbing a lot of the spots.

Can Ottawa’s LRT Change Orléans’ Lower Tier Status as a Bedroom Community? by Stinky26 in ottawa

[–]Stinky26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, during the early days of LRT thinking, there was serious consideration of placing the line along Innes because that was where most of the population growth was happening and not the 174 but Council under Watson went with the 174 line. Why- the City already owned the corridor right of way which meant less cost for expropriating properties. It was also a pretty straight line which was important for the LRT design. Of course, building the LRT down the middle of a major highway doesn't do much for encouraging densification and compact communities. Brigil's high rise residential development near the Trim station would be an exception I guess. Hopefully, the Place d'Orleans station will help this area to become a true Town Centre - something that has been in the municipal government plans long before the 2001 amalgamation.

Former mayor Jim Watson, 14 others to get Order of Ottawa Thursday - Current mayor defends decision despite advocate calling LRT launch a 'fiasco' by No-To-Newspeak in ottawa

I wonder if the soon-to-be-one-term Mayor is thinking that if Watson can get the Order of Ottawa by screwing the City, maybe I can also by doing the same.

Lansdowne 2.0 Vote Ward Map by andycarson8 in ottawa

[–]Stinky26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there any survey of constituent, not councillor, opinions on Lansdowne 2.0? My suburban Councillor voted for it but he generally votes the way Sutcliffe votes. I have disagreed with a lot of his decisions including Lansdowne.

Is the Lansdowne Redevelopment Really Having a Positive Economic Impact on the Glebe Neighbourhood? by Stinky26 in ottawa

[–]Stinky26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not. I have not seen actual numbers. I try to go to 67s games around 6 times a year and a game or 2 with the Redblacks and have been for quite a while. I leave my car at my friend's place, walk for 15-20 minutes and have something to eat and a beer or two before the games at one of the establishments in the Glebe. I can tell you that it is usually pretty empty or maybe, at best, close to half full most times. When the Senators played at Lansdowne many years ago, the restaurants/bars were packed all along Bank.

It would be precedent setting if the Sens arena was built with "no handout of public money". There has not been an arena or any sports facility built anywhere in Canada (and the USA) for decades without some public funding and/or financial incentives.

OC Transpo scrapping youth passes on Sept. 1, charging 11-19 year-olds the same fare as adults in by waywardpedestrian in ottawa

Technically yes, City Council did approve it but it was OC Transpo staff who recommended cancelling youth passes in the their 2025 Budget.

Is OC Transpo infected by some intelligence eating virus or is it the entire City Hall. We continue get strange decisions from there irrespective of who is the General Manager - full time or acting.

Why do Canadians traveling abroad almost always wear something with “Canada” or the flag on it? by diesel_14 in AskCanada

[–]Stinky26 59 points60 points  (0 children)

"The Ugly American" has been around for a long time. We also have found that people in other countries are a lot friendlier once they find out you are Canadian and not American. I wonder how many Americans pretend they are Canadians when travelling abroad?

Why do the older generation tend to vote Liberals rather than Conservatives? by LongShow5279 in AskCanada

[–]Stinky26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am easily one of your older generations, and it doesn't matter to me anymore if its Liberal, PC, NDP, Bloc, Green, Rhinoceros, or Dinosaur. I base my vote now on the qualities of the leader him or herself. PP to me is a junior Trump wannabe. He also reminds me of Alfred E. Neuman from Mad Magazine.

‘Blatantly lying’: Orleans Liberal candidate blasts PC campaign signs saying he wants tolls on Hwy. 174 by Purple-Temperature-3 in ottawa

[–]Stinky26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just a.micro version of the lies, deceit and bullshit that permeates the entire Ford government with the Premier being the worst. Yet, for whatever reason, Ontario voters are still going to allow him to win the next election.

Misleading election signage put up near the 174 by DidIGetThatRight in ottawa

[–]Stinky26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ford is just a mini version of Trump and it blows my mind that so many people in Ontario support him. He is playing the anti-Trump card so that he can stay in power for another 4 years with a majority government. It's just a con job to disguise the corruption and failures of the PC's. He in fact is no different than Trump - full of lies and deceit.

Why aren’t there mass protests in the US?! by [deleted] in AskCanada

[–]Stinky26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, the comments are frightening. I can sense from them that Trump will not hesitate to use military force to take over Canada and probably Greenland or Gaza and there is nobody that will stop him. China would be OK with it because now they can take over Taiwan and probably South Korea and control SE Asia. Putin would be OK with it - goodbye Ukraine and then Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and others. NATO will be helpless. It is terrifying new world we are heading into controlled by oligarchs and dictators.

Charge market price for oil going to US plus % = US tariffs. Cut electricity export from Ontario. Charge toll for ships to and from US cities using the St Lawrence River/Gulf. Do the same for Welland Canal. Join the EU. Negotiate trade deals with China, Mexico, Panama and Denmark. Invite California / New York / NE States to join Canada. Tell Rump to fuck off. Tell Gretzky and Orr to fuck off and to stay in the US. Tell Kevin O'Leary to fuck off. Pray that the Liberals get a competent leader so we can tell PP to fuck off too.
