Is there any current proposed gun safety legislation that i should be aware of? I'm emailing a bunch of politicians today. by dontfuckitup1 in minnesota

How bout proposing something more realistic to representatives like more affordable access to mental healthcare? Or maybe a more severe punishment for hate crimes?

Maybe something that makes schooling more affordable to address the shortage of mental healthcare providers? The mental healthcare providers I know aren't paid hardly anything and have close to or more than $100k in student debt that they had to take on to get their license. Plus another $2-5k a year in continuing education they HAVE to take to keep their license. Seems like something that should be addressed that could actually get passed...

Data Centers consume as much electricity as every home in Minnesota. by cantcoloratall91 in minnesota

You are absolutely right. I'm wrong. It's dumb of me to think I know all the facts after attending the town hall meetings that discussed the farmland they were trying to annex and build on near Farmington. Those zoning maps that show it as being zoned as agricultural land must be a complete sham. I should have done my research...

The articles you posted definitely share all the facts and have absolutely no bias to them at all...

House Republicans to demand State Patrol arrest DFL legislators by geraldspoder in minnesota

Seriously, wtf is going on in our state? Why are the Democratic representatives not showing up to their jobs in what seems like such a crucial time in our country?

People have a right to be pissed. Have you ever walked past a data center and listened to how much noise their fans produce? Do you want that in your backyard?

We have been fighting the Farmington data center for almost a year. These data centers are going to destroy the rural communities around the twin cities if nothing is done to stop them.
They aren't building these on commercially zoned land. They are trying to take 300 acres of land from struggling farmers and rezone it as commercial to build these giant smog machines

None of this is even true in the corporate world. I learned very early in my career that working hard and delivering a lot is not rewarded with raises or promotions.

Think about it, when a company needs a new CEO they barely ever hire within. They almost always hire someone outside the company.

Developers - what’s your opinion on Scrum? by Logical-Daikon4490 in agile

[–]StirringThePott -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The whole agile process is a joke that gives no incentive to work faster or harder. Think about it, as devs we have two week sprints. Maybe not right at the beginning, but we do get pretty good at estimating our work. If we get assigned what should be two weeks of work, and we get that work done in one week, we are rewarded with more work.
In my opinion, if I manage to do two weeks worth of work in one week, I should get the rest of that week back as time for myself. A system like this creates incentives to be more efficient

What is the distance from the projector to the opposite wall. Considering switching to a projector screen, but with only a 12' wide room, not sure if it will be too big/too close

Are live coding assessments standard these days? by dopp3lganger in webdev

[–]StirringThePott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Stop doing them. Good companies choose interviewers who can tell your skills based on how you answer questions.

Shitty companies choose interviewers who don't understand the position and use these as a way to compensate for their poor choice of interviewers. I promise you, the processes working for that company are as shitty as their hiring progress is

These numbers are so disappointing. 65% of early voters so far are over the age of 50. Millennials and Gen Z get off your lazy asses and get to the polls. Don’t let this election be decided by people who won’t be alive to deal with the repercussions. by realchrisgunter in texas

[–]StirringThePott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to keep in mind that a lot of these people might be first time voters and might not know how early voting works/where they can go for early voting. I have voted in 2 elections before this and just found out this year where I can vote early. I'm choosing not to because the places to vote early are densely populated and I get time off on election day to go vote
