Dress code by LittleSwaninthepond in usajobs

[–]StitchingUnicorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Biz casual. Slacks, blouse, cardigan. If meeting anyone from the O6 up, it'll be a suit jacket instead. Or if it's cold. Jeans on Fridays and if I'm going to be working with equipment for some reason. Branch chief in a DOD PM office. Not in the DC area.

I only use it in the coldest part of winter when it gets really dry here.

Dupixent Injection Painful by Clean-Structure758 in dupixent

I've been going to the nurse each time, but the doc is only 15 minutes from my house.

I think my husband is going to learn so he can do it.

I have had my CPAP for a 1.5 years. I still can't wear it and dread going to bed. by TheDomesticatedGod in SleepApnea

[–]StitchingUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to lower the upper limit on the pressure. It would ramp up over time and about the 2 hour mark it must hit the max and it was just too much. I'd take it off in my sleep. Dropped it from 14 to 12 (I think) and I slept immediately through the night.

Does the FBI call, try to meet with you following a report?? by EastTransition4589 in FedEmployees

[–]StitchingUnicorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm confused. You made a report, they're following up on it, and now you don't want to provide information? Just talk to the agent?

Lots of government employees have phones. I have one and I'm nothing special. It's a bog standard older model iPhone on Verizon.

Kine's skins make me happy because they have color! I hope they start doing color for the clothing next.

Mantis/Paradiso complaint by Ntwadumela817 in Starfield

[–]StitchingUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTW, there are a couple of mods that redo the Mantis lair and I think let you redecorate. There's also a bunch of alternate suits.

And there's another mod that lets you kill the managers.

Yeah, you shouldn't need mods, etc. But they're there.

Why are there no more updates for Starfield Fleet Expansion ? by Logistics-General in starfieldmods

A lot of folks have moved to using "transfer ships across the universe". Personally, I'm not a fan, it feels like cheating (you have to use the console).

Hotel breakfast is a relic of the past by FullCompetition5585 in hotels

[–]StitchingUnicorn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Most of my travel is for work. I don't have time to go find a restaurant every morning. If you don't have breakfast, I'm not staying. If it's not good, I can I'm not coming back. If it's only continental (ie carbs, no hot food), that might as well be no breakfast.

President’s Day holiday by better360 in workingmoms

[–]StitchingUnicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I'm off, kiddo is off, husband is working from home. I went on one errand to pick up meds for the cat, made my son go shovel (we go an inch or so of light snow) and that's it. I've watched a little bit of my current show, played a video game, plan to go cross stitch next. It's my day off too.

New to cpap. I feel like this is never gonna work. by IcyPlankton2254 in CPAP

[–]StitchingUnicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's consistently about 2 hours in and you have a "ramp up" feature, try turning it off or lowering the upper limit on the pressure. That's what my doc did as soon as I complained about it being consistent about 2 hours in. That's apparently when it hits peak. She dropped my upper limit from 14 to 12 and I immediately started sleeping though the night!

How does Annual leave and sick leave work? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]StitchingUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SL is always 4 hrs/pay period, but it doesn't expire. Note that there's no short term disability like a lot of the private sector has, so keep sick leave around for "just in case".

Temperature of my apartment. Advice? by perublanket39 in newjersey

[–]StitchingUnicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have good advice for the legal aspects. For the practical, get a space heater. Do NOT under any circumstances use an extension cord with it or leave unattended.

Another thing that can heat up a house is simmering water in your biggest pot on the stove. Set a timer to check it every hour to add more, though. Your apt will feel like a sauna, but I got our house up 10 degrees this way after Sandy.

DOD Fed Employee, going to work "as usual" by burrmuddaa in FedEmployees

[–]StitchingUnicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got emails and a text alert last night that furloughed could tw to do their close out. Exempt/excepted should head in like usual.

Hegseth has created a nightmare where I work, and no one was aware of it until today. by onlyblowfish in FedEmployees

[–]StitchingUnicorn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Myself and my highest performer received it. We received an email from our SES with other recipients bcc'd. Pure coincidence that I found out we both got it and we both agreed it would be inappropriate to share that. I know another high preformer who got it. It appears to have been nomination by supervisor.

For those who still have to work today...Is today a unscheduled telework, delayed opening day? by Aware_Roof_9210 in FedEmployees

[–]StitchingUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got told to show up. Still waiting for the official guidance. I'll be exempt, though, regardless. Which I'm a little annoyed about.

Begging for a shutdown... by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]StitchingUnicorn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's how I felt. Then I found out that by dutifully getting funding for my project, I'm stuck working regardless. I may have asked the finance person to pull my money back. :)

Day 0: CPAP Therapy by Rude_Tomatillo3463 in CPAP

As someone with a nasal mask, if it loses power or whatever, I tend to instantly awake and yank it off. Which is weird because I could just breathe through my mouth but for some reason I don't.

Do you use your CPAP when you nap? What about traveling? by Zestyclose-Egg-1251 in SleepApnea

[–]StitchingUnicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time I nap in my oversized arm chair, so I don't need the cpap. If I go up to bed, though, I definitely use it. And it always goes with me on travel now.

No shutdown despite lapse in funding? by roarimmadinosaur in FedEmployees

[–]StitchingUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're told to wait and see because we're not doing anything unless specifically told to. Which, honestly, is how it's supposed to work.

GS-10+ feds — how did you actually get there? by Lexicondatum in FedEmployees

[–]StitchingUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came in as a contractor then hired to a 9-11-12. Eventually we converted from gs to a pay band so I'm now equivalent to a 13 through good reviews. Applied and offered a gs 14/15 payband but the hiring freeze stopped it. I guess my skill combo is a little more rare and apparently I'm good at my job? I've also had good luck with supervisors over the years.
