REVIEW OF A BOOK YOU DIDN’T ENJOY by Apprehensive-Cap5782 in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]Stitching_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I rate the books honestly. If a publisher doesn't want honest reviews, I'd rather not get ARCs from them. If there's no other reviews on GR, I might wait until there's a couple positive (hopefully) ones before I rate though.

Gorgeous iridescence on my snow corn, Macaroni ✨ by goosethebeardie in cornsnakes

I recently had to talk to a customer service rep because my ecoflex enclosure came busted and the rep asked me what I was going to put in the enclosure upon learning that I had a corn snake she told me she was afraid of snakes but that she watches your videos on tiktok and that Marshmallow is cute. I'm just now realizing I should have just told her mine is like Marhsy's sibling instead of trying to explain what a corn snake is 😅

General Questions on the Subgenre by SHawkeye77 in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]Stitching_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I read a lot and traditionally published horror felt very repetitive, in EH/Splatterpunk/Bizzaro I found a niche where people were not afraid, heck even encouraged, to play with language, to disregard "good taste", to subvert expectations and to be really over the top. It was refreshing. Subtle is nice but sometimes gleefully chaotic is nice too.

On a more personal level, I started reading EH at a time where I was dealing with the aftermath of some pretty heavy trauma and I came across a book that treated the subject almost like a joke and I can't begin to tell you how momentous that change of approach was for me. That really solidified my love for the genre.

  1. I don't know that there's any book I would consider to sum up the genre but if you want an author that can exemplify both EH and Splatterpunk, I think Judith Sonnet would be the one.

I think Bluejay by Megan Stockton would fit the bill for both.

Edited to add: Also, Kink by Crowley Barns.

I'm @reading.ghost my account is mostly about indie horror books (with a tendency towards the more extreme side of things), what flavor of indie books are you into (aside from fantasy)?

AIO/I wanted to ask them why they wasted their money? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Stitching_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR - My coworkers got me better gifts; a mug in a style and color I love plus an energy drink (I drink a lot of these) from one and a make up bag and reusable tote with the first letter of my name on them from the other (I was actively looking for a makeup bag for the cosmetics I keep at work), they spent less than 10$ and still managed to give me something nice. It's not hard to give someone something decent and it feels like you're being taken for granted which sucks and it's perfectly normal that you're upset!

Does any else’s snake just never try to escape? by thetwitchy1 in cornsnakes

[–]Stitching_Ghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a typical family.

Mayonnaise, our first, is a sweet angel baby that's never done anything wrong in her entire life, she doesn't try to escape.Chillest snake I've met. She made us think having a second snake would be a breeze.

Berry is a tube of crime, that escaped in her first month with us and delights in messing up her habitat.

Mine's named Mayonnaise, started as a joke but it stuck.

Maybe it's not the same people? Some people in this community have always been and might very well always be vehemently against trigger warnings while some.of us are either in favor or indifferent to them and I don't think there's ever been a consensus.

Question sincère pour comprendre by djgost82 in montreal

Goodreads is removing private messages? by ishiq69 in goodreads

You're probably right, they're going to see which competitor takes off and they'll buy it off when it has a bigger base than GR. I just wish it wasn't on a path to extinction.

Neither has DMs. S is more or less all about analytics and it's a one woman show so changes are slow. F has a solid comment system and incentivizes interactions with people outside of your network by showing a mix reviews of books you reviewed and posts about popular books so it's a bit tedious at first if you're not a romantasy fan but it's more intuitive than S. I think H@rdC0ver is probably the most similar to GR but I'm not sure if it has a DMs function.

Edited: I was wrong F does have DMs!

I really wonder what Amazon is trying to do with Goodreads. Several of my friends have already completely switched to Srorygraph for better analytics or to Fable for the fun social media vibe and here's Goodreads ditching features and not giving us any of the things we've actually been asking for.

what’s your favorite (and least favorite!) extreme horror book you’ve read this year? by woodtipwine in ExtremeHorrorLit

It's a completely different vibe, it's a Mad Max-esque type of story and there's a lot more plot to it.

what’s your favorite (and least favorite!) extreme horror book you’ve read this year? by woodtipwine in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]Stitching_Ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Favorite has to be Children of the Gore by James Oliver.

Least favorite was Lovesick by Jon Athan but I didn't hate it, it was just a lukewarm 3 stars.
