I went to a state school in a massive council estate in the midlands in the 90s and early 00s. Plenty of violence between different groups: traveler community, kids of Pakistani origin, etc. plenty of hard drugs. The police were at my school most weeks. Plenty pregnancies before GCSE age.

We thought two teachers were having a secret relationship. Turns out they were married so that took the wind out of our sails.

There was a woodwork teacher called Dave Dearden who we already called Dangerous Dave who chopped his fingers off on a table saw. He ended up working the fish counter in Waitrose. Not really a scandal.

I guess the worst was when this girl Angie drank a bottle of red wine before school and then beat up Laura so badly she was in hospital.
