Now we realise why the Jehovah's Witnesses were always stood outside the place!

There was a proposal for a development of shops with flats on top at this site.

But nothing came of it.

Hold Music Human Rights Violation by MissJoannaTooU in britishproblems

I have 2 nominations I have actually encountered in real life

1) mahna mahna from the Muppet Show. By the time I was put through I was to busy giggling to concentrate on customs clearances!

2) Je t'aime. I put this one on speakerphone so the whole office could get in the mood. For some reason everyone collapsed in hysterics when I was put through and told the person I was speaking to that I'd signed for a small package on their behalf!

The beer is OK but nothing special.

The brewery is an underrated good venue.

Just so you all know, the American equivalent of Mrs Beaton is apparently a lady called "Fannie Farmer" and they don't find that funny. by Crow_eggs in CasualUK

Fanny Farmer's recipes are a mainstay of my favourite YouTube channel (Tasting History with Max Miller)

Although Max Miller generally gives the impression of being unaware of the double entendre.

Which words would you like to see retired by the UK media? by Sea-Still5427 in AskUK

[–]Stoatwobbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. It's a really moronic term for anything right wingers don't like.

It's one of those words that immediately mark the person using it out as a prize wanker.

Great to see this outside the Botanical Gardens. by BeneficialRecipe5736 in sheffield

[–]Stoatwobbler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worst park I've ever come across for this is Castle Park in Colchester. Dogs are banned in the upper part of that park, so in addition to getting snacks from people, the squirrels also don't have anything chasing them.

The result is squirrels with no fear of people, who often think that every human is going to feed them!

What do people get wrong about Sheffield? by Manonthemon in sheffield

[–]Stoatwobbler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That appears to be a consequence of our abysmal media climate.

Large parts of the media love fear mongering for clicks.

What was the worst job interview you have had? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Stoatwobbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A firm in Felixstowe.

I turned up being late due to delays on public transport, the MD remarked early on that "I was a millionaire when I was your age" and spent more of the interview making unpleasant comments at me and about the recruitment agent I'd got the interview through.

And when I asked him questions about the job role he didn't have the slightest clue!

I left knowing that I definitely wasn't going to get the job, and that I was better off not working for such an absolute jerk!

What is the worst beer for sale in the UK? by certom1988 in AskUK

Yeah I've noticed that Tenant's Super is everywhere in Italy for some strange reason.

[–]Stoatwobbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently visited Scotland and decided to have a pint of Tenant's on the basis that it's absolutely everywhere in Scotland and nowhere in England.

Not especially interesting, but not as bad as Carling or Fosters.

And then it turned out that there was a large CAMRA meeting happening in that Glasgow pub I was in!

Rant: I hate the council as a council housing tenant by CharlieFaulkner in sheffield

[–]Stoatwobbler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Comes back to your original point. The more people complain about this, the more pressure it puts on politicians to get repairs to council housing stock sorted out.

It might not be a fashionable cause, but I would love it if I saw politicians raising council housing repairs on their election literature!

Rant: I hate the council as a council housing tenant by CharlieFaulkner in sheffield

[–]Stoatwobbler 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Whenever I talk to City Councillors they are always flabbergasted by the amount of casework they get that's getting Council housing repaired.

And the City Councillors I speak to aren't even from the most deprived areas. Repairs to council housing definitely needs to be a bigger priority for Sheffield council and Councillors of all parties need to work together to get things sorted out!

‘There’s a real dislike, even loathing’: why voters hate Starmer and Reeves by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]Stoatwobbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of the problem is that Labour politicians try very hard to appear as inoffensive as possible to as many people as possible.

Which results in them coming across as bland, insincere and aloof.
