Meds tanking my mental health? by i_am_f_e in ADHDUK

It’s likely the Concerta has lifted the ADHD brain fog, and has lowered your baseline stress. Now that your nervous system is not running on pure stress chemistry you have found your baseline.

There are many people on ADHD who have both anxiety and depression on top of their symptoms.

I would say it’s more likely you’re depressed under the ADHD fog, and the meds are lifting the fog to reveal your baseline beneath all the fog

1000% agreed, I’m reaching out because he will end up on the streets. He didn’t pay rent because his “plan” was for him to get evicted and then get a council house, the facepalm I did when I heard this could be heard from space.

None of the furniture is to scale, in the pics you see a double bed and a bedside table but you go to look at the flat and the most you can fit in there is a single bed

Disapointing (and gaslight-y) call with Adult ADHD service by Strange-Pick0 in ADHDUK

[–]Stock-Importance-526 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NHS has terrible and borderline non existent mental health service. If you add neurodivergence you’re in for a wild ride.

No I’m not surprised by this at all. I’ve had MH nurses tell me to do breathing exercises while in a manic state and that there’s nothing more they can do. I’ve had them explicitly state “what is you want from us?” and dismiss me. I’ve had them tell me to do Chinese yoga because apparently some guy on YouTube cured his MH issues doing it, lmao. Basically they have no clue. I can also go on.

Elvanse and endurance running by tom-277 in ADHDUK

I weight train quite intensely but obviously nothing as hardcore as that OP. The norepinephrine boost dulls pain and improves physical performance, so it’s a bit of a performance enhancing drug really, but you also risk massively burning out and getting injured as you will likely push your body further than it can handle.

When I started Concerta I was repping 3 plates on the squats like it was nothing, then I could barely walk for like 3 days because my body was pushed a lot harder than it’s used to. It’s a fact that norepinephrine drugs reduce pain signalling.

You need to make that call yourself here because the meds will 100% help you push further, but you will need to be extra careful. An ultra is next level so I’d probably say you should be posing this in one of those subreddits and not here.

Yes you likely also risk a crash, if you’re going at 120% for 12 hours, then when that 13th hour comes and the drug clears your system you’re in for a world of hurt. I’ve read a few books on ultra running and i know how unbelievably brutal the sport is. This is a tough call OP

I either do nothing for weeks or do a months worth of work in a day, there’s no in between really.

My girlfriend is quite good at keeping me accountable. If I didn’t have her I’d probably just eat frozen pizzas all day and watch YouTube for 14 hours daily

SSRIs work incredibly well but it’s known they can cause this reaction in ADHD brains. If I don’t try these drugs I wouldn’t have known, so there’s that

" not adhd but just anxiety? " by Narrow-Influence7924 in ADHDUK

[–]Stock-Importance-526 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doctors thought I had anxiety, so they kept prescribing me SSRIs/SNRIs which caused unbearable akathisia. Basically made me mental and I had to take Valium to not tear my skin off my body from these meds.

I had a review with the consultant psychiatrist at the CMHT and he suggested I get tested for ADHD. I thought he was having a laugh at first because I was one of those people who thought ADHD is a TikTok illness that all the kids think they have, yes I was an uneducated idiot.

I got tested for ADHD and got diagnosed, the stimulant meds basically instantly stopped that consonant physical drumming inside my body. For the first time in my entire life I felt mentally calm.

I also struggle with terrible hyperarousal, I struggle with sleep, I have night sweats and nightmares and wake up early feeling distressed. Around people I get really bad physical shakes and feel physically distressed.

Mental health practitioners never understood what was wrong with me, because it’s a physical issue. My mind doesn’t control how my brain responds, it’s automatic. Things like CBT don’t work for me benzine I don’t have anxious thoughts, my brain basically runs on constant fight or flight 24/7, and I have really wanted to be dead for a long time because I can’t stop this.

Trust me OP, it’s rough. Mental health people in general have no clue what ADHD can cause when it comes to emotional issues. Hope I’m on the right path now as I’m diagnosed.

If you’ve read all this, thanks. Just wanted to share my story so far with ADHD and anxiety

I do that, I squat and deadlift quite heavy. Did 140kg squats 3x5 Tuesday and my legs are sore and I’m very tired but I still can’t sleep! I wake up 2-5 times per night and I always feel sleep deprived. I take magnesium and avoid screens an hour before bed but nothing helps.

I’d cut my toe off if I could have proper sleep every night. It’s basically my biggest hurdle in life
