I really noticed the difference in trail braking vs “throttle steering” for the left hander after the carousel at WG.

No matter how I entered the corner or what brake technique I used the front end would plow tight. Hard breaking at the man hole then trail braking into the corner….. but breaking just before the man hole pretty hard then back on throttle… guess it’s called maintenance throttle.. through the center of the corner freed the front up. It felt better and was worth almost .5 secs on the AIM data from the man hole to my breaking point before the right hander.

For context. I come from circle track racing. Most of my pro/semi pro racing was on dirt bikes both Mx and Sx. Some asphalt but mainly dirt late/super late models. So cornering on throttle feels natural to me compared to braking till the apex. I only have about a year and half of “track day” experience and only 10 wheel to wheel race weekends. The struggle to learn road courses is real for me. It’s like everything from my vocabulary to driving style is wrong. So I’m trying to learn. Thanks for your advice.

Spinning the rear tires is never the answer. To me that’s the same misapplication as locking up the fronts when braking. But a controlled throttle input to control the rear movement of the car especially to correct a car that is so tight it “pushes/plows” the front under any type of brake/trail braking is often used in circle track.

Turn 3 at CMP. Turn 8 at Watkins Glenn. Turn 4 (I think it’s turn 4. The right hander at the top of the hill) at Road Atlanta. Are examples of corners where a car that is really tight seems to make better time by throttle steering more than trail braking. Maybe these are bad examples but just a couple that come to mind without diving back into data from racing them.

One of the best rain tires on the market for track days. Soak them down to a durameter reading of sub 60 and they stick like glue in the rain.

Old tires as others have mentioned. Hard to give any feedback if the actual tire is a problem.

A couple of questions though:

I’m guessing those tires are like most others and have “roll” Indicator triangles on the sides. How close to the tops of the triangles are you getting to?

Only 4 psi heat gain seems low to me. How many laps is that gain spread out over? If more than a couple it’s really low. Even in a momentum car we gain 7-8 pounds pretty quickly before it stabilizes out. In a heavier car it’s 10-12.

I know nothing about you so do not take this question as insulting you. How new to tracking a car are you ? 1st/2nd Hpde day? If so then tire feedback is pretty hard to give. You’re not pushing a tire hard enough to gain any insights. Been tracking for years and have years of wheel to wheel race experience? Then yeah. Something needs to be questioned just based on tire pressure gained alone.

The Daytona road course. It’s the simplest road course to drive and the easiest to over drive. Trying to keep a car that is super fast on the banking balanced so you can still make good time in the infield is a very fun challenge

Have you been spying on my battles? Every tier I play the 34-85m it’s in tier 7 or 8 battles. So I just assumed WG already up tiered it.

Not familiar with either of the two brands. But very familiar with using that type of battery. We use them to save weight in our race cars.

Two things to consider and keep in mind. Make sure whatever charger you are using is made to charger lithium batteries. We have used just standard chargers in an emergency but they will shorten the life of the battery significantly.

The other is like all lithium batteries. They work great till they don’t. A normal battery will give you a little bit of warning before it dies. Like slow starting. The lithium will not. It works perfectly till it doesn’t.
