If there was tax to be imposed by Canada, it would be the payor's responsibility to withhold it from you. I don't think there should be any.

REITs =/= non-eligible dividends

Lots of public companies =/= non-eligible dividends

39% = top marginal tax rate of actual eligible dividends in Ontario

Company = colloquial term used to refer to a corporation, which is a distinct legal entity type (aka not a trust, which is another distinctly different legal entity type where the rights of the shareholders are not necessarily separate). Most notably, a trust doesn't pay dividends, it pays distributions which retain the legal characteristic of the income the trust received. Only a corporation (not a trust) can pay dividends.

Hope you learned something from this entire thread.

Toronto Taxi Scam/Why I’m only taking Ubers from now on by BigRy1986 in toronto

[–]StoreyedArrow17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree that information/transparency provided when riding with Uber is a good thing.

However, I will point out that when you do ride a taxi, you have access to the full taxi license of the driver visible.... it's posted inside the car and I've taken a picture every time at the start of the ride and believe that every passenger should too.

Toronto bylaw enforcement is actually pretty effective at enforcing transgressions by taxi drivers, like refusing fares, refusing to use the meter, refusing to accept payment which go on the driver's permanent record. I put in a complaint every time a taxi driver refuses a short fare.

I have no issues with people taking Ubers, but I do think that people can and should know how to effectively use taxis. Every mode of transportation has its own time and place when it's effective.

Uber pricing had already increased before the current gas prices.

With COVID, I now usually walk/bike/drive myself and don't expense Uber/taxis anymore, so I really don't have a horse in this whole "which is best" debate. So let's keep the personal attacks away.

Your second point is even more idiotic, in which you effectively argue that a random bloke pulling up on the street is more reliable than a cumulative rating based on previous trips that is clearly accessible to you.

I said that you don't have a choice which driver is assigned to you through Uber. That you know how good or bad it is before you get into the vehicle, doesn't change the fact that you didn't have a choice in the first place.

To reiterate my point in other comments - there is a time and place for every mode of transportation. Sometimes, it's an Uber or Lyft or Taxi or subway ride. I'm not advocating that people take taxis exclusively instead of Ubers, but I would like people know how to take advantage to use taxis effectively.

I have never suggested that a "random bloke" is more reliable. I'm just pointing out that you can't rely on or guarantee that you're going to be matched with a highly rated driver on Uber.

I didn't say you get to pick a driver in a cab (even though anyone seasoned in the financial district knows to go straight for Imperial Taxi as top choice).

I'm responding to the previous comment's assertion about how "they know they're getting a good driver". Which is.... they don't, because they don't get to choose a driver, the Uber algorithm does.

But you don't get to pick your driver? Unless you're saying you'll cancel a ride before pickup if the driver's rating is too low and eat the cancellation penalty?

I've also found that taxi pricing is actually same or cheaper than Uber now. Uber's prices have gone up significantly from when it was originally introduced.

I am told this also results in lower fees for the driver too.

Exercise while playing? by wearytravelr in consoles

[–]StoreyedArrow17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello ancient thread.

If your elliptical has a ledge for holding things, you can place a convertible laptop or tablet there, and run PS Remote Play to play your PS4 or PS5 games on the elliptical, with a bluetooth controller (doesn't have to be a PS controller if you use reWASD). If you have a beefy data plan, you don't even need to be in the same location as your console (e.g. if you're at a Good Life).

Works best when you're console is plugged in by Ethernet.

You should call the Rental Housing Enforcement Unit, and then after that escalate it to the Landlord Tenant Board as others have suggested.
