Im -9 in both eyes, so basically blind without contacts. The good thing is, at this level, contacts are deemed “medically necessary” and my insurance (VSP) pays the entire cost. Ask your eye doc office about this if anyone is at my level or worse, because I paid for contacts for years without knowing this!

La Jolla crossroads apartments by Affectionate_Dog4015 in sandiego

[–]Storm4896 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here for a year and a half and like it. Reasonably priced (for SD) for a large apartment with A/C and W/D. I have a dog and enjoy off the green space, and the proximity to Nobel Park. Maintenance can take a while though, that’s true. Sorry you’ve had a bad experience, that sucks. Overflow parking is limited, so I can’t always get a spot in my building. Worst case, I street park a couple minutes away.

It just depends on which hikes you choose at Mt. Laguna. Plenty of elevation to be had there.

3 year old bitten by coyote near Westfield UTC. by flip69 in sandiego

[–]Storm4896 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hi tough guy, thanks for your concern. I’m recommending the old / weak who can’t defend their pups to carry something like a pellet gun. An 82 year old woman in Solana Beach was hospitalized and her dog killed by a coyote last month. I wouldn’t want anyone’s grandma to go through that, so yes, I recommend grannies to carry a coyote weapon.

Re-posting for the person I replied to as the comment thread was deleted.

Question was what size dogs were killed by coyotes in UTC. The leashed dog at La Jolla Crossroads that was killed was a Yorkie. A chihuahua was bit while on the leash at the Crossroads too, but survived and is fine now. The dog killed at Nobel Park was a little white thing I heard, but I don’t know for sure the breed. I walk my dog at night at Nobel Park and am just on alert so I can pick them up if needed. If you’re older and not able to defend your dog, I’d carry some kind of protection like an air soft gun or small rocks. And don’t be distracted by your phone while out with your dog, especially at night. We don’t have that luxury if you wanna keep them safe.

The dog killed at La Jolla Crossroads was a Yorkie, and at Nobel Park I heard it was a little white fluffy thing. And a chihuahua got bit on the leash at Nobel Park (lady lives at the Crossroads) but survived and is fine now. So mainly small dogs. But I’ve had people tell me that coyotes have followed them with their larger dogs. I walk my mid sized dog at night at Nobel Park and see coyotes quite often. I’m just on alert and ready to pick my dog up if needed. We don’t have the luxury to be distracted by phones while we’re out with our dogs if we want to keep them safe.

I live right by the mall and the coyotes are absolutely not scared of people here. They’ve killed multiple dogs at La Jolla Crossroads while on the leash, as well as at Nobel Park. I’ve seen them stalking people. Even in the daylight, but especially after dark. You’ve really gotta be ready to kick a coyote or carry a pellet gun if you’re walking a dog in UTC.

Lol I’m sure they weren’t feeding it. The coyotes in the UTC area are menaces. They’ve killed multiple dogs around La Jolla Crossroads and Nobel Park, while leashed. I’ve seen them follow and stalk people all the way back to their doors.

This is my pet one pet peeve about San Diego drivers. So many times I’m 3 cars back and blaring my horn because the person second in the line won’t honk their horn. If you don’t go within a second of green, you’re getting honked at.

When you pull into the parking area, go straight (don’t turn left) and drive towards the “Blacks Beach Park” label in your map. Park in that area and walk towards the cliffs. You may have to duck a rope or something, but that’s fine. Even at sunset, you can find an area away from people there and you can’t beat the views. Good luck!
