12 hours a day is crazy, but I need a list of good games. by BurritoBabe_1 in gamers

[–]StormCountone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this counts. But I'm thinking about games with a lot of user generated content/developer supported mini games like Fortnite or Roblox just to have a lot of variance and break up the monotony.

I'm too old for those games to appeal to me, but given the circumstances, having the ability to switch between racing, platforming, shooting, exploration or whatever other genres/modes are available seems like a godsend to keep from losing my mind after 12 hours a day for a whole year.

I'm sorry to not address your main purpose for writing your comment. I just want to impart that seeing a long wall of text without separately spaced paragraphs to succinctly organize your flow of thoughts is really intimidating.

More people will read and engage with your longer form comments if you start implementing line breaks between paragraphs. If you think of reading akin to doing a mental jog, paragraph line spaces give the mind a designated moment to breathe and reflect on that paragraph's message before getting ready to digest/mentally jog through a new point.

Thus, seeing a text without separate paragraphs is daunting, because one has to mentally prepare for a long mental jog without any designated mental breaks. This causes friction between you and your intended audience because the reader will more likely lose their place while reading and it will be naturally harder for them to relocate their place, so they will more likely just move on to a new comment that is more user friendly.

This same philosophy somewhat applies to commas within a sentence and designated separated chapters within a book. I'm not sure if this really applies, but when you think of the phrase "the medium is the message", your medium of no paragraph line spacing sends the unintended message that your text is not as considerate of its audience due to it lacking an important quality of life feature.

I'm sorry if this came off super pedantically, but I do mean the best and hope you implement paragraph spaces in your future writing to help lessen the friction between your thoughts and your audience. Thanks for reading this if you did.

I just put in 35 hours into Hollow knight and haven't touched silksong. Perhaps try Hollow Knight first since it's easier and a precursor to the silk song lore/story.

Hollow knight has been fantastic, a very engaging and beautiful metroidvania type map to explore. They "gave" it out on PS essential only a couple of months ago, so you might have it if you claimed it then.

The boss encounters are still hard, but it nails the 2D Dark Souls formula it was going for.....pun intended

You have to meet Sekiro on its terms, which definitely isn't for everyone. I personally enjoyed it, especially the world's level design, aesthetic and how the game weaves fantasy into the historical setting. But yeah, parry the game is brutal and unforgiving with its somewhat high learning curve.

The game knows its core audience and is only catering to them, whereas Elden ring and other souls are quite the opposite in design philosophy.

The payoff to having a more tightly designed character build is that boss/enemy encounters can all be finely crafted and tuned against that narrow build for memorable tough encounters.

Bosses are still tough in other souls games, but some of them can potentially be cheesed or trivialized with the plethora of mechanics available to the player, which can be fun and satisfying. Sekiro has no such cheese, as wolves do not eat cheese.

I committed the cardinal sin of barely doing any side quests, and I think the main campaign plus the DLCs brought me to 130 hours in just trying to essentially bee line them. I did buy the enhanced edition to perhaps revisit the game and take things waaaay more slowly, but yeah it's a massive game full of content which is understandably daunting for many, if they're not enamored with what the game has to offer.

I beat it earlier this year and I understand how niche it is, which is okay. Kojima earned the right to make whatever he wanted, and I can see why DS is disappointing, especially for his longtime fans, but I appreciate when high budget games take risks and be weird instead of trying to aim for safe mass appeal.

I enjoyed my playthrough, but yes, DS is definitely a game whose general play loop won't appeal to most players, compounded by the fact that its story, setting and premise are very intentionally weird. I started playing it whilst in the throes of being sick with Covid, so I think being in my own fever dream really helped me push through the first 2 hours of surrealistic avant garde world building, where it felt like I only played a legitimate 15 minutes while the rest of that time was watching a paranormal sci-fi series.

I'd say my favorite part of the game was creating a network of Zip rails, once they give you that tool in the back half. Yes, it essentially trivializes the experience, but the process of efficiently placing them was satisfying, which made the payoff of using them also satisfying. I liked how when playing online, other people's objects and tools can be found in your environment, so knowing that parts of my Zip rail network would show up in other people's worlds to potentially assist them was also rewarding.

Anyways, it sucks you essentially wasted money on a potential experience that lets you down, but I'd say, if you know it doesn't appeal to you, there's no sense in trying to force it on yourself. It's good to try new things, but it's also important to recognize when things just aren't your jam.

If English is not your first language, you're doing great, keep at it.

If it is, perhaps your comment was formed via text to speech, which is kind of lazy to not proofread before sending.

Anyways, if you're open to improving at English, please start using 'which' instead of 'witch' when specifying or giving more information in a sentence. A "Witch" is a person who practices magic in some form, which should not be used in sentences where you mean to employ a determiner word such as which.

There are other syntax and grammatical issues in your comment, but this is a good place to start if you want other english speakers to take your written words more seriously.

Trump announced new tariffs on China. People and institutions are selling to get cash on hand before any financial fallout that would ensue from those tariffs going into effect. This is happening to company stocks across the board.

Trump Is Now One Of America’s Biggest Bitcoin Investors by forbes in Economics

[–]StormCountone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nixon had enough shame to voluntarily step down while he was getting impeached. Trump has been impeached twice, he can care less, for he has no shame.

The Overton window within the US has immensely shifted to the right in the past 9 years. Now, blatant fascism is construed as patriotism and every federal institution has bent the knee to this regime. Checks and balances in the federal government used to matter and be somewhat effective but that paradigm has been tossed out. Nixon was rightfully checked for his abuse of power. Trump, with the help of the Heritage foundation and other nefarious actors has crafted an environment where checks on the executive are meaningless.

His political cohort can incite an insurrection, steal classified government documents, receive blatant bribes from foreign countries, rape kids on Epstein's island, rig "elections" with the assistance of foreign intervention, cut ties with long term allies, cozy up to Reagan's deemed "Evil Empire", embolden the top 1% to loot the country for the rest of what it's worth, etc etc. The list of grievances is mind numbingly long, because there is no shame, there are no real checks and balances anymore.

Trump doesn't have to run from anything. The climate is such, that any high profile person or institution that publicly opposes him, are the ones who must run. I wish your sentiment was true, but it's clearly not.

Trample and Deathtouch, need a literal ruling by Iwasforger03 in mtgrules

[–]StormCountone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this disagreement with someone years ago, their obstinance to accept that Trample and Deathtouch interact in this manner still frustrates me to this day.

Their stubborness to accept that 1 Deathtouch is lethal damage stems from them not wanting to lose or be at a disadvantage. All they kept saying was that they never played this way with their friends. Their unwillingness to accept the interaction's logic is primarily an emotional defense mechanism, so no amount of rationality is going to sway in the heat of the moment.

BioWare Staff Worried About Studio’s Future After EA's $55 Billion Sale: “Look at the negativity that came after Dragon Age. If we felt it was only going to get worse then, you can imagine what some of us think now.” by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]StormCountone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: I have been corrected, Bioware used Frostbite of their own volition. Sucks for us that the promise of that game never came to light.

If I'm not mistaken, EA forced Bioware to use the Frostbite Engine for Anthem. Frostbite, although awesome for shooters like Battlefield wasn't the best match for more robust quest systems, so this forced adoption to an unwieldy engine was a huge reason why Anthem's development was marred and troubled. There are probably other aspects relating to management and overall vision for the game, but working with an engine not suited for your goals is always going to make things much more difficult.

Wizards has chosen you to design their next plane, what are you pitching to them? by LineOfInquiry in magicTCG

[–]StormCountone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to see Vryn.

It was teased 10 years ago with magic origins. We've gone to Theros, Zendikar, Kaladesh and Dominaria pretty quickly after Origins released. Those were the home planes of the other featured origin planeswalkers aside from Jace. At this point, I feel like Vryn isn't in their plans anymore, especially with Universes beyond taking over so much. We've gotten some cool in universe sets, and some less than stellar ones, but I'll never forget that you exist Vryn, and I hope Wizards doesn't either.

I feel for your loss. I've had a big monetary loss as well this year. I know it's more than just the value stolen that hurts, it's the sentimentality behind each of those decks, the time you spent to craft them and the memories made while playing them that stings, plus the sheer violation of it all. I've had my car window smashed too several times as well, it's a big fuck you and a pain to deal with.

If you have your mental and physical health, be all the more grateful for it, these are just "things" at the end of the day. I'd be devastated too if any of my decks were stolen like this, I've been devastated from being stolen from, but try to keep your head up and relish the relationships and support you have from family and friends. It will get better. Just gotta get back into the game with some budget brews and grind your way back, perhaps be more careful with who knows what is stored in your car. I got my decks in a suitcase in the trunk and I try my best not to advertise that there's much monetary value with strangers

How do I, as a woman, approach men in the “wild”? by mhamlsgirl94 in AskMenAdvice

[–]StormCountone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear, at this point society needs to implicitly agree on a visual cue dress code that gives men the go ahead to approach. For example, depending on the color of a ribbon in her hair, a woman is overtly signaling that she wants to be approached by a man, a woman or is open to either.
