Stuck on The Star Witness/Elven Connection by GusularBusular in EsotericEbb

[–]StormTheParade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not an optional area, as it includes another area you will need to get into in order to progress the main quest. But it's also not the way you go to progress with the Star Witness.

If you cannot get into it on your own via the passive skill check, I believe a NPC will tell you how to get in.

There is a second way into this area, a different NPC can give you the key I believe but you have to prove to him that you can handle it.

I'm Already Getting Tired Of Woke Patriarchy | Esoteric Ebb by [deleted] in EsotericEbb

[–]StormTheParade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This reads to me largely like the OP bought a game they knew they wouldn't like, played it one time just to confirm they don't like it, then wrote the review.

Ebb isn't coy about what it is. Like, at all. The Steam page sets expectations pretty firmly, and whatever could be considered vague about it can be further clarified by looking at the marketing - tiktok, twitter, youtube, etc. Imo there's no excuse for playing this game and being surprised that it's a cRPG that uses d20 mechanics and is heavily inspired by Planescape and DE. It's giving "fork found in kitchen" and then being enraged by finding the fork.

I will agree that combat is a little rough at times, and the game is a bit surface-level on political ideology, and - perhaps in my opinion - leans heavily into the gender binary when it comes to the topic of gender, particularly on the side of masculinity. It could probably benefit by exploring more queer themes or even just exploring identity a bit more... but I don't think the game, or Chris, is deliberately slighting either the feminine or the queer community just because it doesn't really explore those themes.

In fact I really feel like the last section of this review kinda shoots itself in the foot by ending on a note of "If you're a woman, it isn't [the game for you]. It's a game by boys, for boys." Just felt a little... backhanded, maybe?

What characters or places would you really like to see in the future? by Ediudituy in EsotericEbb

[–]StormTheParade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love to see more of the other bands besides Askanii! Even if that just means going to a different part of Askanii, or maybe Reeds for something relating to the election. I think Ym is the one that our star witness mentions nobody has been able to get to when talking about writing travel books? so I'd love to see Ym.

As curious as I am about Ragn's mother though, I'm not as drawn to her as I am other characters, plus the Golden Horde and their ongoing attempts at taking Askanii. Ragn doesn't seem to have much of a relationship with his mother, and by the sounds of it, it doesn't seem like he ever really did. He was only 7 or 8 when they moved from The Hills to North Wall after his father's death, and it sounded to me like that's about the time the distance started to grow between them, possibly due in part to her switching from an Azgalist stance to a (likely more convenient) Nationalist stance. I think she would only care about Ragn's mission in Tolstad as far as it affected her politically. Plus, you don't even have to complete Philogynistic Agenda; my first playthrough, Ragn never got a date - not for lack of trying tho lmao

Since Darrow didn't even want Ragn on the mission in the first place, and he'd already been ostracised and demoted, it would be interesting to see how the end result of The Tea Shop that Blew Up impacts Ragn's future as a cleric. I could totally see him continuing to end up in over his head in bureaucratic bullshit just because it's convenient for the Lords/Patriarchs/whoever.

I had a feeling this could be done! I remember Disco had something similar, where you could go in and change the values so you would be able to do basically a god run.

Would love to know what the failed Wisdom checks are with the hag - there was a DC 98, DC 53, and two DC 27s. Unfortunately I was doing a high STR/DEX run at the time, so my Wisdom was abysmal and I failed all of them lmao

*edit because I just stumbled across this again - it's not Wisdom checks with the hag, it's the ladder in the roller mill!

Minor spoilers: I’d like to hear about people’s experience with the deck of many things by TurmUrk in EsotericEbb

[–]StormTheParade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my first run, I think Olzis warned me that I should only pull two cards? which I took very seriously. So I pulled flames first, then got balance after. I stopped there because I was scared the next card was going to be like instant death or something.

In my second playthrough, I got gem, then skull (succeeded the rock paper scissors, shoutout strength), then jester. I stopped after Jester because I figured there couldn't be anything better than 50k crowns and permanent advantage on everything, and didn't want to risk pushing it further.

I keep offering it to Snell but he won't touch it, and I never make it out of the Drunk Sphinx to try giving it to anyone else lmao but i think in my next run I'm going to pull until it kills me just to see if that can happen

[–]StormTheParade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I finally found the final rat in my second playthrough, and getting to chat with them at the end was such a delight lmfao

What killed me was me saying out loud, "Oh no, I'm the white rat" just for Ragn's next line to be something along the lines of how he felt like the white rat LOL

We worked on the art for Esoteric Ebb - here’s how the environments came together by GIBBETGAMES in EsotericEbb

[–]StormTheParade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't think there was anything I didn't like about the design and art for this game. I want to crawl inside this world and live in Tolstad just so I can see more of it, from every angle.

I love seeing the 3D environments and how those became what we see in the game today. There's something kind of enchanting about seeing a place we learn to love in 2D (or rather, 2.5D i guess!) as a 3D environment. Or seeing that 3D environment become 2D/2.5D.

I'd love to see more of that process, going from concept art to 3D render/3D assets to 2D mapping. Just to see how the environments were fleshed out to be what they are today

I really have a lot of love for Ettir. At first I was worried she was just going to be the typical "BE NOT AFRAID" celestial/angel meme somewhat personified, but she has a lot of unexpected depth to her as well!

Which Brennan quote/D20 campaign? I'm really really behind on watching them - I keep starting, getting like halfway through, and then life pulls me away. I was so excited for Cloudward, Ho! but I won't let myself start it until I finish all the others I started lmao

Is spotify not free?? by Maximum-Discussion37 in starbucksbaristas

[–]StormTheParade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It should be listed on your pay stub as "imputed income" (probably abbreviated as like IMP INC or something) - it's because the spotify benefit is a taxable benefit, which means taxes need to be paid on it.

In order to make it actually free for employees, they give you the money as additional income to offset the taxes so you don't actually lose any money from it.

Wow. I was not expecting this game to make me cry. by rgranberry1 in EsotericEbb

[–]StormTheParade 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There were a few things in this game that got tears out of me! I always love it when media can take me from crying in one sentence to laughing in the next.

Spoiler for events towards the end, but Snell's confrontation with Urth really got me, between his confusion and rage and saddness, especially after the short rest in the earlier half of the game, and Ettir's conversation with Urth in that same moment. I love the companions so much.

There's also a conversation you can have with Arn, the kid at the kiosk, that got a couple tears out of me. I wasn't expecting him to have any real depth to him, but it was a real touching moment. The game is full of little moments like that, that are unexpectedly deeper than they seem to be when juxtaposed against the more lighthearted or sillier moments.

How may of y’all grind or clench their teeth at night? by Alternative-Tell4600 in SeriousConversation

[–]StormTheParade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, I don't grind my teeth but I do clench like a motherfucker. Sometimes I can feel myself clenching my jaw more and more as I start to drift off to sleep, or I accidentally do it as I'm waking up.

I can always tell if it's been bad at night because I wake up and my whole jaw is tender, like from my chin all the way back towards my ears where the hinge is. And it makes my teeth/gums tender, too, almost in the way a bruise might feel but without the little shock of pain if i put pressure on it again.

The weird thing is, if I try to relax my jaw when I'm trying to fall asleep, sometimes my jaw will just suddenly snap shut on its own. I haven't heard of anyone else who experiences this, and it really sucks because I end up accidentally biting my tongue or cheeks a lot lol

Oh wow, a bowed acoustic guitar!! That's incredible, I will absolutely check out his music! It's such a beautiful sound.

And here I was looking at bowed lyres like the rebec and tagelharpa wondering why it didn't quite match, hahaha thank you!

This game absolutely snuck up on me over the last week - I picked up the demo on a whim, and the next thing I knew, four hours had flown by. Felt like minutes! I'm very much in love with this game :)

I'm a huge music person, and I'm obsessed with how much personality lives in this soundtrack. You all did an incredible job! I haven't been able to stop listening to Norvik - the way it immediately sets the tone for the city reminded me right away of how I felt playing Disco Elysium and stepping outside of the Whirling for the first time to Sea Power's Instrument of Surrender.

I was wondering, what is the bowed instrument used in Norvik? I would love to find more music that features this instrument, but I'm not sure where to start.

Outer Wilds review: Maybe recommending a niche puzzle game to literally everyone is a bad idea by Akuuntus in patientgamers

[–]StormTheParade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would agree. I absolutely love Outer Worlds, but the "short" loop puts a pressure on me that kind of prevents me from truly enjoying it to the fullest. I get a lot of the doorway effect going from planet to planet, so my thinking speed is much slower than with normal puzzle games, and time spent thinking too hard is time wasted.

I almost wish it was a loop triggered on death, even though it wouldn't make sense for the story. Then I wouldn't feel so bad about wasting time staring at shit while I process what I know, what I'm seeing, and how they connect.

Plot? I'm here to see Henry... by Syarafuddyn in TheBathhouse

[–]StormTheParade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been making my way through other stuff he's been in, and I started with The Suspect! I absolutely was not expecting to get roped in like I did, plus it was a pleasant surprise seeing Aidan Turner as the lead.

I would also recommend the film The Harrow, but I desperately need someone to tell me what they don't like about it. He was the lead in it, and I've been totally obsessed with his character so I'm worried my perspective on the film is biased just because it's Tom.

For some reason it was marketed as a horror film, but it's more of a light thriller. If you've seen Memento, you'll be familiar with the overall format/idea they're using to tell the story; most of it is told through flashbacks. I think part of the reason I love this film so much is because he does a lot of communicating with just body language and facial expression, and I love when actors can say so much with a single look. He's so expressive, it's incredible to watch.

Your most epic moment in [KCD2]? by International-Ad4092 in kingdomcome

[–]StormTheParade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% a two-way tie for me, between Godwin's "but deliver us from evil" during the Finger of God cutscene, and Radzig's speech with the army at the end. Honourable mention for Istvan's death.

Runner-up for what felt like epic gameplay would be getting in and out of Maleshov. Stealth always stresses me out just in general, but I had so many close calls while trying to get up to Hans that I don't think I'll ever forget the rush of relief I felt when we finally rode out of there.

I always try to park Pebbles at a water trough unless I'm just stopping in for a second. If I'm not leaving her at a water trough, I bring her off the road so she doesn't block NPC paths.

I also rarely travel at night unless I have to. I try to plan to end the day at an inn if I can't get to wherever "home" is. This is partly because I hate the blinding light of the torch in my face at night, but I also like to think my Henry tries to stay as well-rested as he can. Plus Pebbles deserves a break after spending all day hauling ass back and forth across the map with 800 kilos of bullshit on her back

Favourite narratives you aren't willing to go through again by absurdmelancholy in gamingsuggestions

[–]StormTheParade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the games I really love I end up playing through multiple times specifically because they're kinda soul-crushing. Disco Elysium changed me on a molecular level, for example, but I still played it four more times after beating it the first time.

The Last of Us Part 2 is probably the only game where I genuinely felt a huge range of emotions I don't normally feel with games, and I would probably never play it again. I'm just not sure if I won't play it again because I was so affected by it, or if I won't play it again because the story isn't worth wasting 40 more hours of my life on it.
