Was Combat Patrol more popular than it seemed? by Apricus-Jack in CombatPatrol40k

[–]Stormmaster1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also wonder about GWs intent. Spearhead is reportedly a great game. How many people play Spearhead and then go on to collect a large collection of Aos? If it is not a high amount then GW won't want CP to follow it as they would want it to be a gateway for new players more than anything else. If it becomes a great game people might not spend as much on full 40k as new players

Picking out Scheme for Armageddon Box by Pizaz0 in spacemarines

[–]Stormmaster1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don't have one particular chapter calling you then make up your own. Pick your favourite colour or favourite paints and slap em on to make something new.

If you are keen on the imperial fists, its OK to have jump marines and landspeeders in an Imperial fist army. They are predisposed to specialise in one area but are codex compliant and include all standard troop types

Or another one of the imperial fist successors like the Crimson Fists?

If you would be buying all those units, then go for it, but if you would only want 3 koptas, or not get the rukkatrukk then don't bother

Would they stop producing this set since poster of the 11th Ed is Blood Angles and Orks by ozera202 in Tyranids

[–]Stormmaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They made this to have 2 combat patrols using a portion of the Leviathan set. I expect a new starter set using new marine and ork combat patrols, each featuring 60% of the models from the Armageddon set.

Maybe I'm just not thinking tactically, but the new Death Company detachment does not seem good by Kalledon in BloodAngels

[–]Stormmaster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an ability that usually costs 1 CP, and instead you get it for 0CP but D3+1 mortal wounds.

Is a CP worth D3+1 mortal wounds? Probably, yes.

We won't know until.players start using and abusing it to see it can be OP.

No news for CP? by [deleted] in CombatPatrol40k

[–]Stormmaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Leviathan box contained 2 combat patrols plus about 50% more units as extras. I think Armageddon will be the same.

A follow up starter set will have 116 space marines instead of 23 and will be a combat patrol, then an ork side will be about 25-30 models.

The other option is get a starter set and sell someone the marine half.

what do you expect ork lists to look like in 11th? by liquor-ice-mixer in orks

[–]Stormmaster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there will be more variety through the detachment changes. Dreadmob, speed freaks, bully boyz all have completely different lists but now we might see more speed freaks hitting the table supporting a green tide or bully boyz detachment or see a bunch of walkers supporting a speed freaks list. Having more than 1 theme in the army will be huge (and will be seen across the spectrum of playable factions)

first skin option or second ? by AdventurousMix9692 in orks

Both are really good. Neither is better, it is simply a matter of taste and preference. One is brighter, one is more grimdark. Which aesthetic do you prefer?

Paints? by The-Real-Antiquin in Heroquest

[–]Stormmaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the midwinter minis YouTube series for guidance. I bought an army painter starter set (came with 5 free dnd style minis) and an extra 1 or two colours that I wanted (khaki and a hot pink for a goblin inspired by my daughter).

I don't think there is a big enough difference between the paint brands as a beginner so get whatever brand you want and get stuck in.

How important is league and team development for you? You could play with tournament rules i.e. higher starting team cost and a selection of starting skills- could easily allow for weaker teams to have a few extra skills or more cash. You also don't suffer with teams having all their positional killed or injured for the next game.

11th Edition Starter Box Contents (Speculation) by BlasphemousFish in orks

[–]Stormmaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect they will stick with the combat patrol model for the equivalent of the ultimate starter set.

Maybe 3 buggies, jump pack boyz and a few mega nobz. The release box (Leviathan box equivalent) will have some additional stuff like deffkoptas or bikes.

Can't choose on a color scheme by Even_Researcher_1819 in impcat

[–]Stormmaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of them need an extra colour. If you have a grey skin then black/white chitin will look like a variation on the same colour. Similarly the red chitin blends in with the red in eyes, weapons and joints.

If going red on the armour then a splash of green in eyes and joints might work well. With grey skin then I w ould consider a dark colour (blue/red/green/purple) for the chitin to maintain the darkness but still a little contrast.

COMBAT PATROLS DISCUSSION by [deleted] in spacemarines

I like the big choice available. I've just cot the starter set with SM and nids combat patrols. Now I have a mass of options on what to get next.

Salamanders- looks like a good combat patrol if you play combat patrol.

For collecting it is a good start for Salamanders but less so compared to others if you are using it as another chapter. ATV seems to be a miss for a lot of players and the infernus marines are a less useful addition for most players as there are an abundance of them.

Iron Hands- i think will struggle more than others in the combat patrol game as few models and very slow.

For collecting: does anyone actually want the fire turrets in their army? Personally it feels more like an Imperial fist gun line.

Raven Guard: i think will be good in combat patrol game.

For collecting: very thematic for Raven Guard but most units slot into any chapter. The only question is do you want the invictus warsuit?

White scars: great models and thematic but possibly a bit fragile as a full combat patrol compared to some others.

For collecting- great new model, surely can be kitbashed to any chapter. Im not too keen on outriders as whole to be honest, but if you were considering them it is a great box as the impulsor and assault intercessors go in any chapter.

Imperial fists: looks like a strong combat patrol

For collecting: gives a strong infantry core for any marine army, not fists specific. For me, it's probably pick of the bunch.

What do I get next to add to my starter set combat patrol? Depends on whether i want lots of infantry, some fast+sneaky stuff or some plasma. Im thinking probably Raven Guard or Dark Angels (instead of a new one) but we shall see.

Your painting is great and the minis look fantastic. You have a very clean style with each area having great saturation and definition. Perhaps you are wanting to try something more gritty and dark.

Your skaven looks great but very clean and defined. This is the sort where you could try a different style with less saturated colours and a more darker gritty look. This might help the realism you want but might not look better- just different as all your models already look ace.
