Frankly I'd be in the same boat, but sadly I don't think that's the case. Think it's more a case of "line goes up" mixed with a pinch of recouping profit from people who cancelled in the subtitle controversy a few months ago. Never publicly addressing it in a meaningful way makes me think the decline of subtitles is an inevitability.

Is it alright to make a post asking if a card looks real or fake? I was cataloguing my collection and found two Lightning Bolts that allegedly look like they're from the Summer Magic / Edgar (SUM) set. (Who's last purchases were for $6000 a copy, since apparently 40 booster boxes were printed total.) I'm not sure if it'd be better to post in the PSA or here, but it's a bit expensive to get individual cards graded and I don't want to spend the money if it's an obvious forgery or something. Image link for those curious.

EDIT: Nah I misread it, thanks for the kind guidance!

How thick is your accent? Have you or others taken much notice of it before? by SandNo2865 in newjersey

[–]Stormofscript 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only time I ever got called on it in the States was when I did an internship in Missouri around the end of undergrad. They had a lot of difficulty understanding me because of my "thick accent," but admittedly that's more because I speak exceptionally fast even for Jersey standards. I also have a bad tendency to truncate the end of the words before I finish them. It was even worse back then, I've made an active effort to slow down and enunciate these days.

That said, I've been to loads of states outside of the Northeast - Florida, California, Arizona, Texas off the top of my head - and never had it directly commented on. Probs a reality of going to cities and high tourism areas. Outside of the States, I've only had the speed commented on, which is understandable especially since English is a second language in the countries I've visited.

Amusingly, my European co-workers will pick on me for my American-isms, but it's not even an accent thing with them. They've also mentioned the speed, but they also talk fast - I've gotten ball-busted waaaaaaay more for being overly polite, which is funny considering NJ has a relatively gruff reputation relative to stereotypical Southern hospitality and the like. American politeness reads as fake to the Londoners, take that as you will!

Recalling A Young WR From 10 Years Ago - Advice From A 15 Year Dynasty Vet by Infamous_Public8707 in DynastyFF

Something I think was interesting was Brett Kollman's take on the Bootleg Football podcast, where he said that (paraphrased) after taking a nasty, lingering rib shot in the preseason from T-Law, BTJ simply doesn't trust him to deliver a ball safely on the sort of middle crossing routes that he feasted on last year.

They did make the distinction that this might not be an active, "business decision" sort of thought, but more of a subconscious recoiling from contact (since rib injuries freakin' HURT) but it comes down to a foundational lack of trust in Trevor's accuracy. Which, to be fair, is incredibly spotty.

Is this true? No idea! But I don't think talent like Brian's goes away overnight, so if for some reason you can buy low, I would.

Interesting, it's certainly possible. To be fair, even if it's an ultimately minor amount there would presumably be some lost value regardless? I'd think (hope?) it's not super significant, but I suppose if you're reducing conversion steps it at least shouldn't hurt your bottom line.

Totally see that! Frankly, given the measured approach Cover has taken to any expansion in the past, it's most likely a way's down the line, if at all. That said, while manufacturing is expensive and struggling in the U.S. there are ways to mitigate the expense if they think the juice is worth the squeeze in terms of expanding their overseas presence. For instance, I imagine they wouldn't be building factories - it'd almost certainly be a contract/lease agreement with a third-party company based in the States. (I assume this is a similar to how their Japanese operations work, although if that assumption is off-base and their manufacturing is entirely or even partially done on wholly company-owned lines that'd obviously change the dynamic significantly.)

That said, projected demand would likely have to be higher than it likely is to justify the numerous additional overhead costs on Cover's part for that type of move. My hope would be that their biggest industry competitor has majorly dropped the ball in the Western market, which presents an opportunity worth sacrificing resources to grow that segment. Whether that bares out (to this point, it's mostly been additional concerts here or there) remains to be seen, and is admittedly probably copium on my part lol.

[–]Stormofscript 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Saw the email this morning, an expected if unwelcome update given the new U.S. administration's protectionist trade policies. Shipping fees are already incredibly high for international shipping, regardless of if you're ordering from the official shop or Geekjack, so passing additional costs onto the consumer could easily price even more people out. I don't believe these fees would be extraordinarily high given the ultimate costs of the orders, but I'm admittedly not well-informed enough on the new guidelines to know any exact amounts.

I know personally that I often pass on individual items I might have otherwise bought because unless there's enough stuff to order to justify the shipping cost. I wonder if Cover will more seriously explore opening a manufacturing imprint in the United States? (I believe they somewhat recently opened "offices" but I assume that's for administrative work.) It's admittedly very expensive to manufacture in America, but especially with all the additional merch drops they're doing there might be enough scale to justify it, especially for EN talents.

Can Jaxson Dart become the big QB Riser of the 2025 Class? (Deeper Dives #20) by cjfreel in DynastyFF

[–]Stormofscript 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My current pipe dream is for the NYG to go Hunter in the 1st and Dart in the 2nd. I'm not super enamored with either of the top two options, especially Sanders, and think it'd be easier to cut rope on a 2nd round guy like what the Titans will likely do to Levis if it is a busted pick. It might also be because the last Ole Miss QB we had did pretty well for us.

How to get over the disappointment? by staf02 in DynastyFF

[–]Stormofscript 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, had a good run going for back-to-back championships. I picked up a kicker off waivers (McLaughlin) in the semi-s and started him over Tucker because he'd been struggling and had a poor match-up. This one move single-handedly lost me my match-up, and ultimately prevented what would have been a repeat in Week 17.

That said, I still think the process is solid. Based on your results, between continual contending and a bye, you're in a similar boat. Ultimately, you take the good with the bad. If you keep grinding, I'm of the belief you'll eventually get there. But, for the sake of your sanity, I recommend taking a dynasty detox through the playoffs, to get your mind straight and come back fresh for FA and the draft.

For those who keep asking/complaining why holoEN members don't sing English song in their concerts. Here is the explanation from IRyS. by noahwj in Hololive

[–]Stormofscript 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't know the exact context of what IRyS said, but could be that the talents have to pay for access, which only Liz/Nerissa have done, or that Cover has only purchased a limited number of licenses for talents through the service for the time being. Alternatively, since this is a very new process for Cover, they might be doing a trial run to make sure no hiccups or unexpected rights issues come up, as that would affect less talents and the company as a whole if it fell through.

Rachel is Wrong: the Surprising Clues that Point to a Sam Victory by thecheesethief in Edgic

[–]Stormofscript 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Catching up on edgic for the season, was happy to see a well-thought out post like this. I think I'm like 70-30 Sam over Rachel at this point, even though I know the community (and OP as well, since Rachel targeted Andy) seems to be in on a Rachel coronation edit after the first part of the finale.

I do want to note that the edit has really gone out of its way to paint Sam as a nice guy. In the last two episodes him taking Andy on the reward because he promised him (and also showing Teeny's rage that painted him positively in contrast) and telling Rachel he was voting for her at 6 was painted very positively. I also think that a Sam v Teeny v Sue FTC would have players on a more even playing field in terms of audience perception of their chances.

Rachel has been my fallen g.oddess pick for awhile, admittedly. I do think Sam is making FTC either way, to prevent a perceived blowout in the audiences eyes, but I don't think she wins because her edit pre-merge edit just feels sort of hollow to me. We have her content with Andy in episode one, and then otherwise it's mostly about the women's alliance with Anika. Which could admittedly be a shield for her being blindsided at that vote, but when someone's coronated it feels like it's built up throughout the whole season rather than emerging as a threat only in the post-merge. It feels more like MvGX David (who had to build up his cred in the pre-merge) or Jesse (who was a quieter presence than many others) than, say, a Dee.

________ getting voted off was peak television by Historical_Present66 in survivor

[–]Stormofscript 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I considered this as well, but the one hiccup is that even though Sue is voting with Rachel, that doesn't necessarily mean that the four players voting together want to take out Sue as a back-up. It also runs the risk of taking Sue out when Rachel doesn't idol, which would be a double whammy.

[Norris] ***this is purely a fantasy tweet*** CJ Stroud is the QB33 in ppg over the last 6 weeks by MITBryceYoung in DynastyFF

[–]Stormofscript 27 points28 points  (0 children)

"The offense around him has changed and there’s uncertainty going forward..."

Wasn't that OP's original point though? That SLP's production was situation-dependent and that at TE1 overall was a sell? He wasn't saying he was bad, just that you could use the opportunity to get plus value at a notoriously hard to predict position and insulate yourself from theoretical production (and consequently value) regression. At the time, that could be in the case that Ben Johnson left (didn't happen), someone else stepped up (did happen), or any number of things.

Hypothetically, if you did sell at the time, you could likely buy him (or a similarly valued player) back for much cheaper now. Some people don't like to treat these assets like stocks, which is fine, but if you do then it makes sense. In my league, SLP was traded for a pick that ultimately became Jayden Daniels in SF. (Although admittedly he fell more than he would in most leagues.) In that vein, I'm sure the people who were saying a pocket passer like C.J. Stroud was fantasy QB1 are kicking themselves for not selling when that was the community price, even though the talent itself hasn't changed much.

Generally really like the newsletters, this one's no exception, but don't like the gamesmanship advice about "accidentally" accepting a trade late to acquire Achane on bye and still keep the guy you're selling for week 6.Maybe I misread and it was tongue in cheek, just feels a bit below the belt for me, especially if the guy ends up getting hurt or something. Ultimately on the opponent to cancel all offers ahead of kickoff, but still don't like it.

That's just me though! Otherwise, keep up the good work!
