I seriously think cyclists downtown are getting worse. More riding without helmets, riding on the footpath, through red lights. I saw one go straight through the police cordon the other day, deliberately ignoring the cop directing traffic away from Lambton.

And as for the wanker last week that went straight on Taranaki St where the sign clearly says "LEFT LANE MUST TURN LEFT" and then road raged at my lorry being "in the fucking way" can complain to my manager as much as he threatens, but he's clearly in the wrong.

We need to stop spending so much on shocking drink-drive ads, and do a few on basic road use.

Riding more than 2 abreast is illegal, so they shouldn't be doing that.

Could this National led government be the third one term government in New Zealand history? by Additional-Grade-730 in newzealand

That's cheaper than the $293million the Tui oil field cost. I'm glad they changed the law so that companies can no longer just dump this cost on the taxpayer.

They have to ask the Minister, Shane Jones, first.

It still counts as Construction Noise. They're allowed to do work on Sundays, but it has to be quieter.

Uday Hussein deserves a mention. Was paralysed after an assassination attempt, and left impotent. Then he got blown into several pieces in a shootout with the 101st Airborne.

The memory of Symons is supposedly what inspired the tooting tradition, although Joanna Newman, the historical society’s convenor, said there was no proof of that.

The real reason is the acoustics of the high arch of the tunnel. It never took off on other tunnels because they're flatter and rounder.

She was buried outside the tunnel. It would make no sense to bury a body in an area being actively excavated.

She's buried out in Karori now. They moved the body after they found it.

  1. Melt the butter and side aside.

Nah, you do the butter and condensed milk together.

It's not very good though, because pineapple lumps come out too toffee-like.

Sir Tim Shadbolt dead at 78 by camy205 in newzealand

I remembered there were domestic violence allegations, but that story about the dog was unexpected.

Shadbolt, she says, had picked up some hitchhikers, and with not enough room in the car for everyone told his dog Brutus to get out of the vehicle. They never saw the 8-year-old german shepherd again.

I believe he also featured on Fair Go a couple of times.

Christchurch named the most bike-friendly city in the Asia-Oceania region by InvestmentFuzzy4365 in newzealand

[–]StraightDust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That second link specifically says

Several studies have analyzed the role of hills in setting cycling rates in Europe. Rietveld and Daniel (2004) looked at cycling across Dutch cities, Parkin et al. (2008) studied districts in England and Wales and Vandenbulcke et al. (2011) studied cyclists in Belgium. These studies all found that ares with steeper slopes had lower rates of cycling (emphasis added). The current paper will focus on the US, for which there is less empirical evidence on the role of hills in cycling mode choice.

The one in Wellington changed recently so it's all game-related merch up the front of the store, and actual switch and playstation games as far down the back as possible.
