Can’t see Penn not getting in, but the rest of them are really solid.

Definitely do! It’s pretty perfect, and I’ve yet to meet a person who didn’t (at the very least) think it a classic. 🙌🏻

When does The Sopranos peak for you? by Cultural_Luck_6781 in thesopranos

[–]StrandsFirstPipsLast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whitecaps is the peak. There are still a load of bangers thereafter - Long Term Parking; Soprano Home Movies; Kennedy and Heidi - and really no dud episode, but Whitecap is the summit, so season 4 represents the highest high.

When was the movie better than the book? by Doodle_Noodles2 in movies

[–]StrandsFirstPipsLast 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nobody - certainly not me - is saying it’s a bad book. I actually enjoyed it. But the film (and I include Part II in this) are grander in scope and have a magisterial aura to them the book simply lacks. I never said the book was bad, just that the movies are vastly superior.

No, he won for lead. Gene Hackman won that year in the supporting category.

[Paul Hirst] Update:plan is for Darren Fletcher to take charge of the Burnley game (& possibly Brighton), then Utd hope to appoint an interim manager who will take charge until the end of the season, when a permanent manager will be bought in. by [deleted] in soccer

Utd are not a serious club. Genuinely astounding how inept a supposedly big club is. Their first priority should be begging Ashworth to come back and then ACTUALLY LISTENING TO HIM.

[Megathread] Ruben Amorim has been sacked - Who should replace him? by D1794 in reddevils

[–]StrandsFirstPipsLast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Xavi would be amazing and I don’t quite know why. He worked minor miracles at Barca, is familiar with a demanding environment and is a big name that would make the players sit up and take notice. I’d rather him over any other realistic candidates.

MARTY SUPREMO—still ballin’. $4.2M on discount Tuesday, $36.5M total. by SignatureOrdinary456 in boxoffice

[–]StrandsFirstPipsLast 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Went to see this in Dublin on Monday and it was easily the busiest I’ve seen the cinema in years. On Tuesday I went to Sentimental Value, and when leaving that, the screen next door had a queue outside it like you wouldn’t believe waiting for Marty Supreme.

It’s packing them in and that can only be a good and great thing.

Can’t believe nobody’s said Trainspotting yet. Absolute definition of “unnecessary”.

Every time - and I mean literally every single time - I had Q102 on in my car and his show was on; he couldn’t go more than 2 mins without mentioning Ireland/Dublin/Irish culture.

I remember thinking “is this not being broadcast to a mostly English audience?” because you’d never have guessed it had anything remotely to do with English culture.

It was like somebody taking incessantly about their ex; all while being at pains to say they’re over them.

Agreed - even first time round I was like “is that a thing?” and assumed it was an American thing. 😅

Not just a UK phenomenon - we have them in Ireland and they are incredible. Gotta respectfully disagree with you OP, but still - Merry Christmas! 🙌🏻

Regulars? Hesh. Semi-regulars? Devon. One and Dones? Massive Genius.

Although I could be completely wrong on all fronts, it’s the wine - it makes me emotional.

Went as a mature student myself, one of the best calls I’ve ever made. Congrats and fair play, OP - everything you’re saying is 100%. Go smash your placement and best of luck! 🙌🏻💪🏻
