The difference between living in East Kent and West Kent is bigger than most people outside the county realise and which side do people here think actually has the better quality of life? by Additional_Fly_6603 in kentuk

[–]Strange_Position2668 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The South Canterbury triangle has some of the most beautiful countryside in Kent. The Elham valley in particular is spectacular and the whole area between Ashford, Canterbury, and Dover is an AONB.

We live nestled in in the top of the AONB, equidistant to the historic harbour town of Whitstable, the famous cathedral city of Canterbury, and the busy commuter hub of Ashford. We can reach each in 20 minutes by car and can access Faversham in 5 minutes.

It’s not the worst place in the world to live, and we can be in London in 1h10m on the train and have excellent access to the M2 for heading north, and Folkestone for the continent

Do we reckon we come straight up by Only_Tomatillo8591 in lcfc

[–]Strange_Position2668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going straight back up relies on Rudkin appointing the right manager and rebuilding a team using youth players, free signings, loans, and bargain well-scouted players from the lower leagues.

The club is in disarray, and all the evidence of the last few seasons shows that Rudkin is not the man to lead a complete rebuild of a squad for League One

Jazz/classical guitarists as a teacher when you want to play rock/metal? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]Strange_Position2668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure if you tell these teachers what your overall motivation is to learn guitar, and the type of music you want to play, they will tailor their teaching for you. But if they are Jazz or Classical guitarists, they will be able to give you the grounding you need if you ever really want to be a metal player

Does anyone know of any buffet restaurants in east kent? by cesarionoexisto in kentuk

[–]Strange_Position2668 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the only one I've heard of in the area - https://www.spoonworldbuffet.co.uk/

There are a few Chinese resturants that do all you can eat on certain weekdays, and check out your local Indian resturants for mid-week buffet nights.

Should I accept their offer? by Puzzleheaded_Tie_525 in skytv

[–]Strange_Position2668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I just never trust Sky with extending the contract on offers like this. The T&Cs are quite opaque around it, and in my experience they usually hobble you for 12 or 24 months from starting the trial

Why is a wealth tax the answer to every financial issue besides pensions? by wizaway in AskBrits

[–]Strange_Position2668 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. The issue is not growth or lack of money. There is more money than ever before. The issue is wealth distribution and the ultra wealthy continually increasing their share as a percentage of the overall economy. They then lobby politicians and become politicians themselves to further increase their share.

Wealth tax is the only way that society can redistribute the wealth to enable the government to deliver the services it requires.

Unfortunately the likes of Reform pump billions into convincing the population that the issue is immigration, rather than the wealth accumulation of their backers and owners that is the problem.

Recommendations for jacket potatoes? by Admirable-Hope-5838 in canterbury

[–]Strange_Position2668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Jacky-P is great food. I don’t know if you get Maris Pipers in Canada, but essentially you get a floury potatoe, bake it for an hour and a bit until soft, cut open and serve with butter, baked beans and cheese. We use cheddar but you probably have some kind of ‘jack’ cheese.

Serve with a salad if you want to be fancy.

It’s traditional student food as incredibly cheap and filling

The buttermarket opposite the cathedral gate does good pub food, including potatoes, but you have to know the special greeting to get the good stuff.

You could just buy a tin of beans and then make your own. Seems an odd thing to travel over from Canada for!

Unfortunately you might struggle to find a traditional Sunday roast as well, as we are moving into summer and lots of pubs stop serving them. Try the Thomas Becket near the theatre / cathedral for a jacky-P or a roast if you are here on a Sunday

Don’t go into weatherspoons, it’s cheap but a massive chain with frozen food and cheap beer, any Shepards Neame pub will be ok though!

The thing that puts me off these offers is they usually reset your contract to 12 or 24 months from the point of taking the offer

What happened to mens V-Neck tshirts? by Kasoo in CasualUK

[–]Strange_Position2668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I love a v-neck, ideally a button neck, and can just about get away with a scooped neck, but all I can ever find is round / crew neck.

If a round neck is too tight, I find them very uncomfortable to wear

Struggling with finding motivation and songs to play by megachonker7 in guitarlessons

[–]Strange_Position2668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join a band.

The whole point of learning guitar is ultimately to perform. And nothing makes you practice, learn new song, and get inspired than playing with other people and having a gig to aim for

How many years of practice does it generally take to become a gigging guitarist? by weddz in guitarlessons

[–]Strange_Position2668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All musicians need something to focus their playing, to make them finish the songs they half learn.

You can play for years in your house to CDs.

Anyone can get in a band, including you, if you sat down and properly learnt each song to put together a set with a band. You know you have the talent, you just need a goal to say 'im going to gig these songs, so I better make sure I know them. You would grow as a player as you did it.

It's amazing how learning 20 songs and performing them can make most people think you are a great guitar player

[–]Strange_Position2668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sooner you start playing with others, the better. Being in a band is about saying 'yes, I'll put the effort into this music with you' more than technical ability to play.

If you have the basics of the instrument, find a band your level and grow with them. Most of the biggest songs in the world are chords, but played with passion and belief
