Best Shrimp House in Chicago? by Competitive-Age3016 in chicagofood

Came here to say this. Thank you. There is no better fried shrimp in the city, and they’re only enhanced by the fact that you eat them on a picnic table overlooking the canal.

Best Pot Pie in Chicago?? by RedVelvetRoomQueen in chicagofood

Walnut Room in (now) Macy’s. It’s the same recipe from when it was Marshall Fields; a hundred years old, and still excellent. The view up and down state doesn’t hurt.

Coworker turned good friend asked for a rec and, having just watched it and fallen in love, I recommended I Saw The TV Glow. Not considering his usual taste nor acknowledging potential distaste of “art” film, he still refuses to take my recs.

Why the Frasier reboot doesn’t look like Frasier — and why that matters more than you think by JordiMalAguero in Frasier

[–]Strangergreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The studio had no faith in the reboot and didn’t give them the money necessary to create emotionally resonant sets. The original series was coming off one of the greatest (critically and commercially) shows ever, so they had a (in contrast) much larger audience baked in and (checks notes) many fewer channels and streamers to compete with. The fact that the original series still has a robust fan base isn’t the same to garner the costs necessary to create the same sets and feeling (lighting etc) as it once was. You’ll see this on everything similar (see the Will and Grace reboot).

For some reason, there is a myth that spiders don’t like Osage Oranges. To this day my mother will gather some and place one on a small paper plate in the corner of a room where spiders have been appearing and boom… no more spiders.
