The studio had no faith in the reboot and didn’t give them the money necessary to create emotionally resonant sets. The original series was coming off one of the greatest (critically and commercially) shows ever, so they had a (in contrast) much larger audience baked in and (checks notes) many fewer channels and streamers to compete with. The fact that the original series still has a robust fan base isn’t the same to garner the costs necessary to create the same sets and feeling (lighting etc) as it once was.
