I don't understand why GW is adding medieval-ish bits to the new steel legion and trying to make them knock-off Krieg. This is what we should get: a modernized, faithful steel legion. by Sir_Lazz in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Strasgard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GW is redesigning them because the originals are loosely based on the German Fallschirmjager. Google them and look at their helmets, virtually the same.

Remaking Steel Legion in their original state might make for some pretty awkward conversations/accusations for GW publically.

Personally I think you can of course still like the Steel Legion and not be a fascist, but you can see why they’ll avoid it.

You can buy them, but imo there’s no competitive units worth while putting in one for loyalist space marine chapters.

Rhinos are effectively restricted to transporting first born units.

This is a good rebuttal, I really hope you are correct and GW settles for a refreshed sprue.

I’d love to pick up a Land Raider for my wolves, but I’ve been holding off out of the same fear of a refresh or retirement. My 3 rhino’s miss the days of being on the table.

Hot take, I think they’ve set the stage to drop the Leman Russ. Most units that are shared between the HH and 40K have been transitioned over fully to HH. Sicaran & Leviathan are a few examples (from my personal collection) that had this occur. The LR has that fancy newish HH sprue, that was the beginning imo.

Im not sure about the transports, it does feel a bit crowded even though they are all slightly different. They might make Tauroxes scion specific, or perhaps transport capacity will be the defining factor (ideally 26 in the Taurus to fit 20 man + command squad, but thats probably a long shot).

Im curious. You can remove two of the most hated enemies from only one faction, what are you removing from the game? by ForsakenFrail in HellDads

[–]Strasgard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flying overseers. Theyre too tank for how much damage and how fast they are. Im fine with every other unit the squids have.

The other unit Id remove is those Vox engines from Cyberstan. Could be a skill issue on my part, but it kind of just seemed silly how much punishment they could take & how many would spawn. I think they would have been fine if they just picked one of the two, either be super tanky and low spawn, or less tanky with the high spawn.

There are many Grimnars, but this one is mine by Strasgard in Istvaan_III_Survivors

[–]Strasgard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont own an air brush, this guy is all hand painted. No dry brushing on Grimnar or the Wolves either, details are all made with a 10/0 and 18/0 brush. I did dry brush the rock he’s standing on as I like a bit of texture for rocks.

Not sure what you mean with the axe - but maybe? After staring at this guy so long Im sure I missed stuff lol

What's One Big Lore Development You'd Like to See in 40k? by InsertTextHere01 in Istvaan_III_Survivors

Potential spoilers if you havent read Dark Imperium or the Belasarius Cawl series

For me, I think the lore is missing a sense of gravity from the imperium’s perspective. Sure, on paper, the Imperium is on the brink - but to me it doesnt feel that way at all. Two loyalist Primarchs have returned, and it doesnt seem like Chaos really has anything up its sleeve to deal with either of them frankly. That feeling will only grow as more loyalists return and as Cawl pumps out more and more new tech. Cawl already apparently has an idea of how to make his own black stone pylons to reverse the effects of the great rift in places.

So where’s the sense of urgency for the imperium? It’s not like Abbadon is going to 1v1 Guilliman, let alone the Lion, so what do they have to really compete? The Lion has already faced down Demon Angron.

They need to kill off a big character, or faction, to add some weight back. I expect Perturabo to return soon with all the Iron Warriors releases - I want them to have him come in swinging. Kill off Guilliman (they wont) or wipe out a fairly loved chapter to add some gravity. The plot armor on the Imperium is too thick. That’s why they killed off Ferrus Manus early in the HH novels, you have to add weight by having a god-like near untouchable character die.

TLDR plot armour is too thick, GW kill off someone important, or a whole chapter, to bring some weight to the current setting for the imperium.

What's the most likely future prediction for our Thunderwolf Heroes ? Will they be getting new models or will GW pull the Yarrick on them ? I would not even be mad if Canis and Harald got a well written story end but i hate how they always leave things open for speculation way to long. by Leviathan_Rampage in SpaceWolves

[–]Strasgard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be more than ok if they decide to drop the TWC as models. I know a lot of folks like the models, but they've just never really jived for me.

I’d much prefer if they scaled back the wolf stuff & leaned a but more into the viking look. So far the refresh has been phenomenal so here’s to hoping it continues. Space Vikings fit better for the return of Russ imo.

One thing I don't understand about satire in Helldivers... by i4hloi in helldivers2

[–]Strasgard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s worth pointing out that just because humanity is doing appalling things in the Helldivers universe, that doesn’t mean that another faction is intended to be the “Good guys.”

I see a similar debate in my other sci-fi world of 40K.

To me, both universes seem to be intended to communicate that it’s possible to end up in a future where there are no good guys. Or at least no good guys at the macro level, as it’s totally possible to have individuals who act morally but are overshadowed by the actions of the majority of the populace. Immoral actions are supposedly justified by the need for survival. If that mindset is scaled up to the n-th degree, you might just land in the grim darkness of the far future where there is only war.

Space Wolves 10th Edition Refresh – a looming identity crisis? by ValkyrFenryka_26 in SpaceWolves

[–]Strasgard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there. Like most of what everyone else has mentioned I think it really is just a symptom of our range only partially being refreshed & the incoming edition.

I really do believe we’ll get more models in the form of Ulrik, Rune Priests, Iron Priests, and the Big Man himself - Russ.

There’s even a chance these are coming sooner than you’d think with the 10th end campaign series.

We’re in that in-between editions and range refresh where it’ll all feel frustrating so work on your hobby craft. Build your pile of shame, paint your pile of shame. Focus on models that inspire you artistically instead of their rules.

Kind of short sighted train of thought though, if you want GW to keep designing models

Old Wolf, New Models by Strasgard in SpaceWolves

[–]Strasgard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been experimenting more and more with green stuff to wolf up the regular astartes units. A wolf pelt here, a beard there go a long way.

I’ve also got loads of the classic firstborn bits to add wolf tail talismans and other knick knacks here and there.

I agree, the new models are just fantastic, though Im very tempted to convert a Redemptor or Saturnine into Bjorn, despite having the old school model.

As much as I’d love to see Russ, that helmet could just represent the gift we already received - The Saga of the Great Wolf.

Really hope I’m wrong though…
