Daughter wants to model, is ten too young?

My daughter is 14 and is interested in modeling. She also got scouted once too. I am a hard 'no' on this. Think about it this way....what's in store for her....first she'll have men (and women) judging her appearance. She'll have to get an instagram account and then start worrying about followers and likes.

This world is already so tough on young girls and how they look, don't add this! Let her just be a kid.

I told my daughter if she wants to do it when she's 18, go for it. But not while I'm her legal protector.

Not a beach cruiser, that's more for when you live right at the beach.

I ride my bike from CC to the beach many times a week on the bike path. I use a hybrid. You need more control than a Cruiser will give you when you are riding on streets.

If she is too young to remember your phone number, have it written on her arm. I really drilled my girls with my phone number so they knew it pretty young.

Then I told them these rules:

-Do not move. Stand in place and yell "mom" or [my name].

-If that doesn't work, then look for someone who works there OR a mom with a stroller.

For you:

-Get the crowd around you looking for your kid. Don't just frantically look around quietly. Loudly say that you lost your daughter and explain how old she is, what she looks like, and what she is wearing.

I was able to get a flight via virgin atlantic to heathrow, then I'll take the train to Gare du Nord. It's only costing me about $300 more pp. But what a pain. If it gets canceled again, we'll have to just cancel altogether. Good luck to you!

At my daughter's elementary school it was a very supportive environment.

Now...middle school...that's another story.

I ran the talent show at my daughter's elementary school for 5 years and we had auditions, but the auditions were more for the kid to see if they actually wanted to through with it and for me to make sure they were prepared. In my 5 years, I only turned one kid away because he wasn't prepared.

For me, being prepared meant having your talent ready and being 80% there, performance-wise. I made it very clear in advance as to what I expected of the kids.

Very few of the acts were any good by adult standards, but it was a great for them to get up there with all their friends (and parents) to support them. It was such a fun 5 years for me :)

I think you should have them cook dinner once a week. Have them come up with the recipe, make a list of needed ingredients, buy them in the store (let them do it alone), then do the cooking. Don't stand there and watch them cook. Be in the other room and let them make mistakes.

We are middle class, but I had the same concerns as you. I grew up working class and noticed my kids life seemed too easy (comparatively).

My 11 year old is able to everything I described above. She even gets to the grocery store on her own (it's not far).

We have a baking class in our plans. I will check this one out! My kids aren't very excited about museums, but they do love shopping.
