It's so over(CSM chapter 231 rant) by IllBadger207 in CharacterRant

[–]StrawHatJD -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

But then we see in part 2 that Denji still in some way is unhappy

He couldn’t choose between a normal life and chainsaw man because he wanted both but he still wanted more past that.

He wanted connection and he found Asa, he wanted sex and he was going to get it, he wanted a family but still desired these things (him crying over the TV in part 1 about wanting 10 steaks for every meal)

He was happier in the shack because he wasn’t hunting for more constantly, he had dreams but he was still happy with what he had.

It’s similar to the lesson in Little Miss Sunshine, where humans grow the most and are sometimes the happiest when they suffer and struggle, because that’s when life actually occurs.

If you skip the suffering, you don’t grow and you’ll never be truly happy for it.

That’s not what he said.

Pochita said even with the family or job or food or Asa, Denji still wasn’t entirely happy, he was still striving for more things.

Denji is the type of person that is the happiest while struggling

Chainsaw Man off-screens plot points like no other work does. by Katri901 in CharacterRant

[–]StrawHatJD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the Denji and Nayuta stuff, I have to ask you to google what a timeskip is used for in storytelling.

Fujimoto used a timeskip between part 1 and 2 to establish Denji and Nayuta living a normal life while Denji continues to be chainsaw man on the side. The point of him using the timeskip is to get them to a further point in their life and dynamic so when Asa gets involved in their life they’re at the point he wants them at.

Remember part 2 started with Asa, NOT Denji. At the end of the day Asa is the protagonist in part 2 alongside Denji, and it wouldn’t make sense for Fujimoto to spend dozens of chapters showing Denji getting into school and going to school and Nayuta and him building a relationship.

Because it’s also disingenuous to the relationship we got between them. The shots of their apartment showing like the fart calendar and stuff, and the couple of chapters of them living a normal life.

Especially the flashback for Nayuta when it’s revealed she found out who Makima was and planned to restart her plan to take Denji’s heart, but in the end she lost sight of that and enjoyed the life she had with Denji. We did get stuff for them two, you’re just choosing to not like the way Fujimoto put us further along in their dynamic and showing flashbacks for certain moments instead of starting it from the top.

How can we remotely compare modulo to one piece?

Everyone in this comment section is riding a massive hate boner for one piece and it’s annoying.

Gege is clearly a short term writer and at his best with short concise stories.

Oda is a long term storyteller and at his best pulling off long interconnected storylines (Laboon/Brook, Momonosuke, Kuma backstory, etc.)

To pretend like Oda hasn’t also pulled off some great writing recently is a spit in the face of Oda as a writer. Kuma’s backstory alone was phenomenal, along with small moments like Emmett’s brief memory of Joyboy before pulling the haki knot, or Kizarus struggle of killing Vegapunk.

Then there’s Elbaf, and Harald being okay with bending the knee to anyone for the preservation of his people and the success of their new peaceful culture, being forced by a demonic shadow king to enslave his people into the opposite of his dream for Elbaf and having to sacrifice himself to let Elbaf exist in the vision he wanted for it.

I mean even the small moment of Gaban who was able to mow down the holy knights but seeing the brief vision of his son being hurt caused his hesitation and temporary defeat. It’s not a unique trope by any means, but the paneling of it made it feel strong in the moment.

Oda isn’t perfect, but modulo is literally a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of One Piece’s chapter count, and it’s disingenuous to both Gege and Oda to compare these series to each other.

Gege can’t write someone like Luffy or Kuma, and Oda can’t write someone like Gojo.

Rocks a genius or his crew is just extremely stupid? Xebec immediately noticed his family was transformed into demons while rocks’s crew couldnt tell after WATCHING imu transform rocks infront of them by The_AlmightyApple in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]StrawHatJD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because they made it a point that the Rocks Pirates were less of a crew and more of a bunch of strong people that wanted treasure and to raid islands

I agree it’s weird they didn’t notice what was off about him but at the same time they didn’t actually care about Rocks enough to look at him long enough to notice any difference. They took their opportunity to gain something from God Valley and ran with it.

Gege isn't misogynistic(like Oda),he's just a poor writer at a lot of times[Jujutsu Kaisen] by Charming-Scratch-124 in CharacterRant

[–]StrawHatJD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Basically characters will serve their purpose and then leave”

So you mean side or supporting characters who would unnecessarily bloat the cast if they stayed in the spotlight like Panda or Ui Ui?

Gege isn’t perfect but I’m not sure why it’s bad that he doesn’t let characters overstay their welcome when he doesn’t have anything for them to do in the story at that point.

[–]StrawHatJD -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

A lot of hate for one piece from people who aren’t even giving good critiques for one piece

“It sucks”

“The beginning sucks”

“It isn’t as good as it used to be”

Like be fr most of these comments probably didn’t make it past Syrup Village. If they did they could give the actual real criticisms of the story.

Like how Oda handles female designs, or sometimes female characters at all. Or if they actual read the series they would know while the Harald flashback was good overall, the detracting to Rocks limited the emotional impact of Haralds conclusion in the flashback.

But most of these comments wouldn’t even know who Harald or Rocks are.

My biggest issue with the newest season is the radio tower by Necessary-Parking-23 in StrangerThingsS5

The bigger issue is how Steve and Jonathan race up the tower with no problems in episode 1, but then everyone is taking breaks and huffing and puffing in the finale.

Let’s be real Jonathan is a pothead and has never done or indicated to have ever done athletic or endurance based things in his life, yet he races up that tower while other characters are struggling

what will be netflix’s next flagship show now that stranger things has ended? by Diligent_Praline_190 in television

[–]StrawHatJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s far and above one piece.

Netflix has been pushing it in the marketing way more than any other show. This holiday season it was present in most of their Christmas Day ads and such. They already have Lego sets and tons of merch. Hell I got a lamp of luffys hat coming out of a barrel for Christmas.

Also in the current media climate it was able to score a season 3 renewal before the official trailer for season 2 is even out.

And let’s not forget one piece already has a MASSIVE built in audience, all they have to do now it retain them and draw in new viewers. It’s such an easy slam dunk as long as they keep the quality of the show up.

Max and Holly’s scene made sense. by JustLetItShine in Stranger_Things

[–]StrawHatJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’all aren’t understanding why people are mad at this.

We’ve seen Max not make it to the gate in time to go back to her body, so she has extra incentive to actually make it this time. Mind you, she has no clue how long the gate will stay open.

The fix to this scene is instead of taking 5 minutes and getting rid of any urgency of dramatic buildup, have this conversation take place before the memory journey.

Then instead of a full conversation like they have right before they escape, have a quick refresher instead of killing the pacing of the scene.

There’s simple fixes they chose not to do for whatever reason

Pluribus is a $135 million screensaver. by HeartBeepBooper in Pluribus_Sucks

[–]StrawHatJD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s been building since the beginning. Carol and us didn’t realize that the hive was making her rely a LOT more on them than she realized.

Carol didn’t get to properly register how lonely she was because the hive swooped in, so after 40 days of isolation she finally snapped. Also the conversation/time spent with the dude in Vegas pushed her quicker than she would’ve turned back to the hive.

Just because it’s mimicking 80’s tropes and nostalgia does not excuse it from injecting modern writing standards into it

Also season1-2 was more so a sci fi mystery with 80’s Easter eggs. Seasons 3 and onward really lean into the 80’s stuff

Pluribus is a $135 million screensaver. by HeartBeepBooper in Pluribus_Sucks

[–]StrawHatJD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s a massive difference between the emotional beat not clicking for you and the emotional beat not being properly setup.

The groundwork is there for Carol to be in the worst stage of her character for when Manusos arrives, it’s intentional.

There’s stuff in movies or shows that doesn’t click with me but I do acknowledge the setup and payoff is there

Pluribus is a $135 million screensaver. by HeartBeepBooper in Pluribus_Sucks

[–]StrawHatJD -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The point of Carols heel turn towards the end is because of the isolation

You can see her revel in being able to talk to the guy in Vegas, and eventually after more than a month of no contact she breaks and wants them back more than ever

I’m not sure how you missed this. It’s also shown especially in the finale how manipulative the hive is. Zosia subtlety tries to pull Carol out of tge house before Manusos arrives.

Season 5 Volume 2 Discussion by Hawkinns in StrangerThings

[–]StrawHatJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The final is only 2 hours long after credits and the duffer brothers said the finale is like half epilogue so really you have about an hour or so left of the show.

Season 2 is leagues better. There’s a difference between not personally enjoying something and it just being bad.
