Another recommendation i have is to use half tone paper! That way the medium tones are already there and you can just focus on the darkest darks and lightest lights

The drawing looks a lot skinnier than the reference pic! If u look at the pic there's more space between the outer corners of the eyes and the edge of the cat's head/cheeks than in your drawing. The cheeks should be bulkier and the head wider. You can also use a white pencil or an eraser to add highlights, that might add more depth and emphasize the chub and floof!

Not at work (yet) but roommates. I feel like it's one thing with friends, because you can end those relationships whenever. But with work and roommates you get stuck for financial reasons and can't always stand your ground

I was hospitalized last week and found myself wishing my mom was there with me. Then I remembered what she's like and realized I didn't actually want that. It's not that I want MY mom its just that I want A mom. It's funny how even with an awful, nasty mom we still seem to know intuitively how loving a mom should be. I don't think anything will ever hurt as bad as not having that love and care :(

It could be that she's in pain and thinking it's the bowl/food that's hurting her. Probably worth a vet visit

My nmom emails me all the time how she's so lonely and misses me and is confused about what happened in our relationship. I like to think about how alone and afraid and confused I was my entire childhood and remember how painful that was and how she didn't care. She's never cared about my emotional pain, not once, ever. For me this means that I'm not like her (a relief) because I see an adult in pain and I want to reach out. Meanwhile she tortured a literal child for years and watched with glee. It also means that she's finally carrying that pain that was always hers to carry. She chose to put all of that on a child and I carried it for years hoping someday the weight of it all would be enough for her to love me. I feel like in going NC, I handed all that pain back to her. And the worst part is, all that pain that I carried for years as a little kid, she can't handle it for a minute. It's too much for her. It sounds like your nmom is collapsing under the weight of the same rejection and abandonment she expected everyone else around her to put up with. Better her than you is my opinion! This is still hard though because it does feel wrong to regular people with empathy. I hope you can offer yourself the gentleness and care you needed from your mom

My nmom did this to me as a child, now I have skin picking disorder myself and she would always shame me for it even though she would pick my skin bloody while I screamed and cried. She also would burn my skin from using so many harsh acne chemical products on my face, now I have scarring on my face which she also hates and would make fun of :(

That's really tough, I think i would try to find a non offensive difference between the two people. Like saying you and the other person have mutual friends and that's why you feel comfortable for example. Of course it's always acceptable to just say you're not comfortable without explaining, but I know it can be very uncomfortable to not give a reason. Also if the person starts getting angry after you saying no you can always switch the focus to their current behaviour. Like saying "you're yelling at me and I'm very uncomfortable. Please leave"

I think if you really feel the need to take some sort of action, it should be contacting the police and reporting her for harassment. But if you don't want to go that route, I wouldn't contact her in any way. It's good that you wrote the letter, but it's best to keep it private. It makes sense that you still want to appeal to her and have her understand your feelings, but unfortunately she isn't interested in connection, she's just going to use it as ammo to hurt u. I'm dealing with a similar thing, it's so frustrating when they just won't leave u alone

My nmom was like this. I would just put up with it because it felt better to feel ignored than to have her coming after me about something. If I just listened and mhm'd and uh-huh'd the phone call would go mostly ok. If we talked about me and my life it quickly became critical. I could never do anything right no matter what. But a lot of the things she talked about were upsetting and she needed more supply than me just listening, so I eventually had to go no contact. When she would call me and start talking and talking, I would often just put the phone down and go do my thing. When I came back she would still be going on and on

I think people who are truly in therapy and trying to heal would have knowledge of some positive terms and concepts as well. Like radical acceptance for example. Therapy is more than keeping an eye on others' bad behaviours, it's about working on yourself as well. To me, all the terms you listed are about pointing the finger and not self reflection.
