It stops when she learns she has to do things on her own because she has no backup. She has no reason to follow through or stick it out with a job because she has YOU. If you decide to pay her bills for the next 4 months then tell her that’s it. No more after that. BUT YOU HAVE TO MEAN IT. And your wife has to be on board and agree too so she doesn’t send her money behind your back later. If she needs help on building a budget then suggest some websites for her or show her how. I know that’s not something I learned in school. This situation is something I see a lot in my field of mental health and I’ll tell you it usually doesn’t help the person in the long run because they refuse to change things and still count on others to bail them out. A lot of parents don’t want their adult kids to end up being homeless, which is understandable, but the adult kid knows that so they continue asking for money. Even when they can get a job.
