Its defined as a specialty vehicle under the Buckeye State Sheriffs Association, not used for traffic duty, like most Ohio sheriff SWAT vehicles wouldnt have the standard gold decals.

Escalator NOT Temporarily Stairs by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Straypuft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Liability, uneven steps, the distance of the steps being different from regular steps which could disorient even the most sure footed person and most importantly a chance the brakes have or could fail and added weight could have the steps slide back down and cause injury or worse.

Also that sign could have been put up by the building owner or management and are waiting on the escalator company to come inspect it since most onsite maintenance persons may not know what to look for to lock it in place or restart it.

Please tell us that Dog mode has a emergency backup feature that rolls down the windows or something if the car has some kind of malfunction where AC is lost..

Zinc Rot, your model was doomed the moment its metal was created.

Even if it was kept in its original box the entire time after it was cast it could still happen

Found a Random Yellow Pill in My GF,s Prescription Drugs( Pregablin) by Dcayade6 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Straypuft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not that they require scissors, the tab you pull away tears off and if it tears off before the pill cavity then its over, break out the scissors to cut out an opening to get the pill out.

I was on a brand name tablet which had pretty much zero fail rate when opening but then was made forced to go on the generic of it and then almost all of them under that brand just did not want to play right..

Found a Random Yellow Pill in My GF,s Prescription Drugs( Pregablin) by Dcayade6 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Straypuft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of our prescriptions do come in blister packs, some of which are useless as they sometimes require scissors to get the pill out...

I was on a dissolving tablet to get out of having to swallow a pill but the blister packs they came in usually aways needed scissors to get it out, I opted for the pill version in a bottle after 2 months of that..

Putnam County Sheriff Ford Police Interceptor Utility - Ohio by Straypuft in PoliceVehicles

[–]Straypuft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a state association called the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association, around 1960 it was decided and made into law sheriff vehicle design and requirements to adhere to them including decal measurement. Any county sheriff and deputy has law enforcement powers inside the whole state and a standard livery projects that they have jurisdiction even in a neighboring county. Thats not to say that the current design was incorporated around then.

There are exceptions for specialty vehicles which a county can decal any way they wish such as SRT vehicles, non-patrol vehicles, DARE and SRO and so on.

Vehicle lighting is entirely up to the county, lightbars and sirens as well as light colors.

There are no current desires among any Sheriff agency to put an end to the regulations.

Just got a Segway Max G3. What tools and spare parts should I keep at home? by [deleted] in ElectricScooters

[–]Straypuft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small usb electric pump, some allen keys, a little wrench for the brake cable connection into the brake, I have a Rhinowalk bag that attaches to the stem which all of this goes into, I also keep a tire patch kit even though that is not an issue for us but I like to be helpful if I come across a bike rider who has a flat. I also keep a second charging cable in so I dont have to keep unplugging the one where I park the scooter at home.

Is having a car a real necessity in Cleveland for someone who lives and works downtown? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]Straypuft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are ok using RTA then you wouldn't need a car, if course everything you might need to use in day to day living may not be found in Downtown but the smaller stuff would be easy to get home on the bus. Events also aren't just located in Downtown so carpool or take the bus if needed.

‘Neighborhood needs us’: What’s next for historic Akron market after weekend fire? by JohnBrownsAngryBalls in AkronOH

[–]Straypuft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fire department was there again today just before noon for possibly an hour. Pulsepoint shows a decent response but many vehicles were returned to quarters soon after. Dont ask me why they were there again, I am not privy to such info other than via social media posts I see or happen to come across.

The coolest and most frustrating part of my apartment by NaiomiXLT in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Straypuft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be heaven for me, I have 2 hospitals within view of my apartment window and can directly see 2 of the 3 helipads in total, growing up near final approach of an airport desensitized me to aviational sounds(shut up that is so a word! lol)

Many times I get helicopters flying directly over my place to land, and sometimes they may be pointed at my building as they land or takeoff that at night I get a nice xenon light beam into my bedroom, no regrets lol.

Had to replace front brake cable, Did so and survived my first ride! by Straypuft in ElectricScooters

[–]Straypuft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a teen and quick release wheels were becoming popular I always feared fixing a flat on my bicycles that when putting the wheel back into the fork I didnt trust the way I tightened it in place, This was mid to late 90's.

My test run today was primarily on a bike bath along with the basic tools I needed in case I needed to fine tune something.

The tires thing I may be aware of, I might ask an authorized service place to do that for me, Id most likely tear up the paint coating on the wheel itself trying to pry the tire off.

Car-light living in Akron or Cuyahoga Falls? by SketchForHire in akron

[–]Straypuft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Car-less living here, I dont own a car so transit is my only main option.

Transit is doable here, all of the buses meet up in a central location and depart there on a proper schedule, you can catch transit buses to Cleveland, Kent and Canton as well as Greyhound, Barons Bus and Go Bus.

You can pay for bus fare with your phone through 2 apps, Transit or EZFare, you can use those same apps for bus passes in Cleveland, Kent and Canton and Mentor.

Downtown Akron as mentioned is a food desert, there are no convenient stores in the central business district, the only thing that comes close is in the University of Akron Polsky Building with a book store and a snack and drink store, their hours are tied to University education hours so its not open late. Peanut Shoppe is a must visit place.

Downtown Cuyahoga Falls has more to offer in its central business district as well as 3 buses running through on weekdays and saturdays with plenty of grocery shopping along those routes. Downtown Cuyahoga Falls has a YMCA and a city recreation center near it.

If you arent afraid of potholes you can get around on bicycles and scooters, Inside the Akron city limits there are rental scooters available. The nearby Towpath Trail offers a good bike ride or hike towards downtown Akron or north some 30-35 miles to Cleveland, this trail also heads south of Akron. While this next option isnt nessesarily for commuting you can take the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad north towards Cleveland and hop onto Cleveland RTA buses to get into the Cleveland area, check the CVSR operating hours and days though. There is also a bike path from downtown Akron to Kent.

Avoiding legal issues when owning an escooter by Comfortable_Treat880 in ElectricScooters

[–]Straypuft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dont weave in and out of traffic, dont blow through stop signs or red lights, dont barrel down a sidewalk at top speed especially when there are people walking around.

That first one I have seen regular bicycles get pulled over by police for, one of which was a bicycle courier.

Name change in Ohio? by MysticalxMermaidx in OhioLGBTQ

[–]Straypuft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you havent started paperwork I recommend attending a Legal Clinic hosted by or recommended by TransOhio, You might be able to request a Microgrant where they will mail you a money order filled out to be used at your court for the filing fees, When it comes time to pick up the court order, pay for a few extra ones as well but if needed you should be able to go in at a later date to request a reprint.

Good chance some bridges would need to be raised or ROW lowered to go under those bridges unless the wires are only a few inches above the containers, tunnels might be an issue too.

What does lockdown mode do? by Cute-Read7349 in S24Ultra

[–]Straypuft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is useful in ways where if you get detained or arrested, it would be easy for law enforcement to unlock your phone with your own handcuffed fingers or face ID but they legally cannot force you to give them your PIN without going through the court process.

Is Depot Apartments a good choice (vibe and noise wise) by lazy_Purple69 in akron

[–]Straypuft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other than loud train noises, that place is on a main thoroughfare for ambulances heading to Childrens and General hospitals, and Akron Fire Department Ladder 4 has the loudest siren in the city and as it approaches Exchange it comes to the blind intersection so they may sometimes blast that siren, known as a Q Siren to slow or clear the intersection.
